That would be a great way of getting more brothers in service. Have one girl assigned to each car group.
I think I would consider changing careers and become a pioneer.

having been raised as a jw - there were many things i was told and accepted as reality.
even after being df'd for some years i still kept these beliefs - it was not until i became a born again christian that i realized how narrow the view i held was.
perhaps some of you can relate to these small nuggets of the "reality of the world as seen by a jw".... * only a jw has a hope of the resurrection to look forward to when someone dies.
Yes, life was so peaceful and wonderful prior to 1914.
I think if you check the facts, the average life expectency back in the 1800's was about 45 years or so, similar to what it is in the poorest countries today.
Modern day life has its problems, no doubt about it, but I would without question prefer living today than prior to 1914.

when going door to door, does the organization rather recruit males than females?edited by - jh on 29 january 2003 6:41:29.
Yes, I would say without question that getting a new "brother" is preferable since they can be given a far greater range of "privledges" than can a sister.
I don't remember what the current value of a woman is in the organization but the last time I checked it was around 8 sheep and a he goat for a woman that is of the "humble and mild spirit." The value drops to just a couple of sheep (and forget the goat) for sisters that have a tendency to think and express their own opinions on issues.

i've disfellowshiped myself from the org.
27yrs ago .as some of you know my husband is a practicing jw, my question is i would like to be offically disfellowshiped from this sick crap, how do i go about doing this?
and does this mean my husband has to ignore me in some manner ?
More importantly, if you Disfellowship or Disassociate youself, you won't be allowed to talk to yourself any more. If you ask yourself a question, you may have the urge to leave the room.

I would agree to think carefully before doing anything.
If there is any family involvement at all it will be curtailed. It may make things more difficult with your spouse since you won't be invited to any type of social event or anything.
Since it has been so long ago, no one would consider you a JW anyway.
If it were me, I would just let the matter rest.

i remember baking in the hot sun, with the outdoor district conventions.
the only thing i liked about them was lunch time.
back in the day, then i could grab the little coupons, ten to a page, each worth 10 cents.

Point well taken. Our time is not our own. Way too much is pre-programmed and a good dub has little if any time to do things that one might find enjoyable.
This topic came up last week. When I hear the "only 5 meetings a week" thing, a reasonable person would look right through it. Here is a part of comments from last week:
We always hear that it's only 5 hours a week and 2 or 3 hours for service. But that is a complete joke.
Let's face it, especially if you have one or more children, two nights per week are used for the TMS,SM and Book Study. By the time you begin to get ready, shower, dress, travel, be there 20 minutes or so early to fellowship, etc. etc. the evenings are gone, zap. Another night you typically will have a family study. Ok, no travel, but still, that limits what you can do that night.
Then if preparation for the meetings is done the way suggested, it will take at least another full evening including the Watchtower, the Isaiah book, the TMS, SM, Bible reading for the week, etc. That's four evenings so far "used." Just maybe, a family has to go to the store, do some things that "normally" people do. And we haven't even mentioned homework if there are kids involved!!!!
On the weekend, Saturday morning is used for field service. If you have your meeting Sunday afternoon that sort of messes up the morning since you can't get too involved with anything or go anywhere since you have to be back home by noon to get ready.
Then, we have those special privledges of student talks, service meeting parts, demonstrations, aux. pioneering, assemblies, special assembly days, visits by the CO, special this, special that.
Now, people do need to go stores, to the mall, take care of jobs around the house, take care of ones car, help children with homework, projects for school, etc. Maybe there are other family responsibilities with other family members.
At this point we haven't mentioned anything about recreation or really doing anything for anyone else.
After looking at everything that has been pre-programmed for us to do, it is not surprising that people don't show love to one another because there isn't any time !!!!
Our lives are too complex today. There is no doubt about it. There is more pressure every day from a variety of sources. Having so much of our time pre-programmed for ANY purpose is just wrong. Just plain wrong.

can someone explain the paranoia that exists regarding flashbulbs at the assemblies ???.
i mean, it's not like we have never seen them before and they would draw our attention away from something.
if anything, when you see a lot of flashing lights, it draws attention to the person or event, not to the cameras.

I just never thought after seeing someone taking a picture, "wow !!! that person has a camera with a flash!!!"
Why do they make such a big deal over such a common thing ???

Yes, I remember those looooong days too. They didn't end the assemblies until 9 at night. You talk about misery!!!
We went to Yankee Stadium in New York and naturally a lot of the GB would give talks. You just always hoped that Bro. Franz wasn't on the evening parts, especially the last talk of the day. I recall one night he went on until almost 10PM and even my parents, who would never say a bad word otherwise, were really starting to get pissed. I mean, we had like a hour subway ride to get to the hotel. It was well after midnight by the time we got to the hotel then we had to get up early again ... what memories.

I remember as a kid at Yankee Stadium in the late 60's buying those little battery fans from the vendors outside the stadium. The heat was like ... incredible.
But still not as bad as later years when we were assigned to go down to Vet Stadium in Philadelphia. That is the worst and hottest place I have ever seen. That Astro-Turf is just horrible. It just seems to hold the heat. And I never heard anyone say they enjoyed an assembly there.

i have heard that there will be an announcement of a new arrangement for brothers to receive answers quickly to questions regarding the organization, doctrines or general issues.. instead of having to write a letter, mail it and wait for a response, there will be a new system that allows a person to call the society directly and get an answer over the phone.
with all of the events currently in the news regarding the organization, i was told this was in response to complaints from both brothers and those sincere interested ones that the response time via regular mail is too long.. as i understand it, the system will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
all the caller will need to do is dial the special number (it will be listed in all publications and flash periodically at the bottom of the screen in all new videos) and be put directly in contact with a person to discuss the issue.. there will be various topic lines such as doctrines, general comments, the daily text, secret sins i am trying to overcome, etc.
I also understand that there will be a change in the way Judical Committees are arranged. Due to the extensive workload that Committes place on elders, the arrangement will be streamlined as follows:
1. Judical Committees will be composed of two elders instead of three.
2. Hearings will be limited to 30 minutes and the entire process not to exceed one hour.
3. The first 30 minutes will involve the charges against the accused and testimony from any witnesses.
4. At the end of the 30 minutes, the elders will meet privately for up to 10 minutes to reach a final decision.
5. If at the end of that time no decision is reached, the person (s) will be called back for a 10 minute "overtime" session.
6. At the end of overtime, the elders will have 10 more minutes to privately reach a decision.
7. If no decision is reached, the person (s) will be called back into the room.
8. The elders will produce a coin and allow the accused to inspect it.
9. One of the elders will toss the coin in the air and ask the accused to call "heads or tails" while in the air.
10. If the accused makes the correct call, it will be determined that the person is "innocent."
11. If the accused fails to make the correct call, the person will be considered "guilty."
12. Judical cases which have been Appealed will be handled as above except the coin toss will be a "best out of three."
It should be interesting to see how the new arrangement works.
