looks like the update i pushed yesterday broke the "new topic" link.
if this shows up, then it's fixed :).
there are quite a few other updates, nothing should be visually different but the backend is changing in preparation for more noticeable changes and just to improve performance..
Simon ...
Thank you.

Just another JW event where some can feel EXTRA SPECIAL than others.
Yes, Toes up. it's one of the events when you can get that special tingle up the side of your leg just knowing that your were there.

I have been to a couple of the Annual Meetings at the Stanley in Jersey City NJ in the past. It was typically announced that the "business" meeting was held just before the actual meeting. They would say that so-and-so was voted for another term as president, somebody else vice-president, treasurer, etc. At one of the times I was there, I recall Don Adams was the president of the corporation.
Whoever was reading the announcement would try to make it a bit humorous by asking the audience what they thought the numbers were as far as how many voted for each. He (a GB member) would then say, "Believe it or not brothers, there was a unanimous vote of 175-0" (or something like that). Then the people would laugh since everyone knew that the vote would be unanimous.
I'm sure the actual business part of the meeting was very short since who would object to anything presented. It's not like there would be a real discussion as would be typical in many organizations. I just remember that the voting members had to be there earlier (around 8AM) before the rest were allowed in around 9AM. It always started at 10AM.
To be a voting member is just like anything else in the Borg or for that matter, many other corporations. Probably similar to becoming a CO or any other position of power. I just recall hearing that this one or that one was asked by the Society to become a voting member. I do know that a lot of them are older and some need to vote by proxy since that cannot travel to the location.

flin flon, ca.
according to statistics supplied by jehovah’s witnesses canada, about 85 jehovah’s witnesses live in flin flon, with around 100 people coming to each of the group’s biweekly meetings.. “we needed a new hall because the congregation has outgrown the old hall,” said congregation elder kelly flodell in a press release..
The only thing I know about Flin Flon is that Bobby Clarke is from there.

i'll play devil's advocate.... true, the mosaic law code prohibited the eating of blood.
but jesus fulfilled the law covenant thus wiping out all the laws previously set.
but then later, (through god's spirit, of course wink wink) the abstaining of blood was again brought to followers of christ.
even large fish like salmon and halibut . An angler may bleed one but commercial fishing does not.
BluesBrother ...
I think you have to check your "facts" about commercial fishing and the bleeding process. I don't want to put links here that may be offensive to some, but immediately bleeding a live fish is considered the most human method and certainly the best for quality of the fish when eating. If, for example, a tuna is not properly bled, it looses a significant amount of its value.
The Japanese have developed a method called Ikejime (google it if you wish) to further preserve the flesh by removing all blood as quickly as possible. Come on now, who wants to pay top dollar for sushi and have blood spots in it???
I do fish often and have learned the process when catching a nice fish and wanting to get it to the ice as quickly as possible. Just throwing it in the cooler, especially with a larger fish over 6 or 7 lbs (3 kg), just ends up with more blood in the flesh and more damaged flesh since the fish just keeps jumping around until it dies.
Using the Ikejime method only takes a minute or so and results in a MUCH better result. Commercial fisherman catching a big blue fin tuna worth $10,000 or so would not think of losing half of their value with a fish that has not been properly bled. It even applies to smaller yellow fin and even black fin tuna.
If you have never seen the amount of blood squirting out of the side of the head of a 15 pound tuna, you would be surprised, just as I first was.

With the Society, big "events" are thought to happen in the Spring or particularly the Fall. Those of us who were old enough to remember the 1975 thing recall that the 6,000 years of mans creation would end in early Fall (October) of 1975. It was even mentioned in the Aid book at that time.
I'm not a lawyer or talking specifics here, but corporations are required by law to have some type of meeting annually to fulfill the legal aspects. Many corporations just have their voting members do this via proxy. The last I heard (maybe 10 years ago) there were about 175 or so "shareholders" in the Pittsburgh corporation. They are typically the heavies in the organization. To be one of the voting members, it is considered a privilege since you are considered one of the few.
I would have to look up the articles of incorporation by the Pennsylvania corporation for the dates and requirements but it is no more than just fulfilling the annual requirements by the law.
Since October is such an important time in JW land, why not have the Annual Meeting tie into that time frame?

If it's in the water and swims, crawls, floats or just sits there ... I would probably eat it.
I've eaten some things, considered by many, to be odd but other than eel, I haven't had anything that I disliked. The texture of the eel is just too soft and reminds me of liver, one of the few things on land I don't eat.

The Annual Meeting, for as long as I can remember, has been on the first Saturday of October.
This year (2019), it will be on Saturday 5 October 2019.
