How Many of you Remember Mr. Rogers Neighborhood?

just saw the movie "a beautiful day in the neighborhood" with tom hanks as fred rogers.

excellent acting and story-line.

it brought back many fond memories as a child.

I remember Mr Rogers when I was a kid. I watched it a lot since I found it so corny but I still liked it.

When Eddie Murphy did the "Mr Robinson's Neighborhood" thing on Saturday Night Live, I found it to be hilarious. I still remember several of the of the shows and there are quite a few of his skits on you tube.

One of the funniest was when his teaching "word of the day". He held up the word "ransom."

He then put it into a sentence. He said "I ran-some dog out of my yard today."

God, those things were funny. You really have to go to you tube and watch some of those skits.

Jehovah's house for Sale?

when i drive by the kingdom hall i grew up attending at but, was sold directly to a church, i get angry.

the elders who handled the sale didn't even remove the watchtower shaped bricks on each side of the sign near the street so, now they advertise for a baptist church.

how many times as i grew up i heard things like: you should not do work ( such as clean carpets for a church) you wouldn't want to work at a cigarette making plant or a facility that makes bombs for the military.

I remember seeing that kingdom hall you mention in Ft. Lauderdale when I visited that Everglades park with the alligators. I once went on that airboat ride.

Yes, that is the one. That assembly hall was just down the road from Holiday Park, where they have live alligator exhibits, airboat rides and everything everglades related.

And it was so easy to access, not far from major highways making it easy for us here in South Florida to access.

It still pisses me off that it is now gone, at least as an assembly hall.

They did the same thing here in South Florida (Ft Lauderdale area) when they sold our assembly hall to a spanish evangelical church. It was really a beautiful building that I did some work on 25 or so years ago.

It was right next to the everglades and even had a pond in front of it (they had to fence in the pond at one point to keep the alligators out ... lol). If was full of fish and the water was crystal clear.

So I guess the building that was once dedicated to Jehovah was then disfellowshipped for apostasy and we are to shun the building now.

How old is old?

having a conversation with a pimi elder and i asked him how he deals with the fact that he never expected to get old.

i get the feeling that some dubs still have the original generation explanation hard-wired, even though they claim to accept the new version.

so my question is, how old do you have to be to be considered old?

i must say, i have had my battery mower, trimmer, blower for about a year now and could not be happier (ryobi 40 volt stuff).

the same battery works in everything.

just plug and play.. yes, they are more expensive to purchase, probably 30% to 50% more than gas.

I actually ended up with two batteries for my Ryobi stuff. I had bought the trimmer and blower a couple of years earlier. When I was looking to buy a new mower, the battery used for the trimmer and battery quit. So I just decided to buy the mower with the new battery and use the battery for all three items.

Stupid me, but a month or so later I saw a Home Depot ad that said Ryobi has a 3 year warranty on the batteries. I called Ryobi and they confirmed it. I had no receipt but they just asked me for the serial numbers of the trimmer, blower, charger and battery that I had originally purchased. He confirmed that these units were part of the same bundled package that I had purchased. The guy had me run a test on the battery and charger while on the phone and he confirmed the problem was the battery. He said yes, it is still under warranty. About a week later I had a new battery. Not a penny out of pocket. They just told me to recycle the old one or take it back to Home Depot for recycling.

In any case, I have the new battery that came with the mower and another new one that Ryobi shipped to me still in the box. One 5 aH battery is enough for me to mow the yard and then use the trimmer and blower.

Overall, extremely happy with the product and service.

Note: Maybe I need to buy a house with a larger yard so I can use both batteries the same day .... lol.

I'm hearing good things about the updated technology and would consider getting one now.

I would just say, the technology is soooo different from just a few years ago. With the lithium-ion batteries standard now, they hold a charge much longer and don't have the "memory" problems with nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries that generally are no longer available for this type of equipment.

I checked around when I bought my stuff but found the 40 volt Ryobi things to be very well recommended and long-lasting. Other brands may serve the purpose too.

But living here in South Florida using these things year-round, I have to say if someone gave me a two-stroke anything that I have to mix gas and oil, push some button 10 times, pull the cord three times, push it again twice, then pull the cord another 10 times or whatever the instructions are and hope it starts while I am sweating my butt off standing in 90 degree weather in the sun, I would hand it back to them and say thank you.

And if you have a gas blower, repeat the process above.

I prefer one squeeze of a button, snap the battery between tools, no smell, little noise and off I go.

i have been thinking... why would anyone want to join the religion or actually stay in the organization.

i understand that people don’t want to lose their loving family and dear friends so some stay in.

but what does anyone really ever get because they are jehovah’s witnesses??.

Yes, they are more expensive to purchase, probably 30% to 50% more than gas. But not having to buy gas, oil, mix it, pull on a cord a hundred times, change spark plugs, etc etc etc.

I do have a relatively small yard and I can mow it in about 15 minutes, then trim around the edges, then blow the grass away.

Yes, replacement batteries cost around $100. But I got one with the mower and one with the trimmer/blower. I actually only use one since it lasts for everything I need to do. So I have a new battery in the box that I can save until this one starts to die. Typical life is rated at 5-7 years.

In any case, just pressing a button to start things is so great. And don't think these things now are not powerful. I think the trimmer could cut your foot off if you got it in the way, not like the old electric stuff.

What Did You Do With All Your Meeting Clothes?

i literally had dozens of suits.

i still have more dress clothes than anyone i know.

i did give some suits and clothing away and to be honest, i still like wearing a nice suit.. brothers and sisters, are all your “ meeting clothes” still in your closet?

I am still "in" but not that regular.

I will say, however, it you are in business and need to meet clients, having a nice suit to do the initial meeting is a definite plus, even if no one else is wearing a suit.

I always think that on an initial meeting, it is much easier to take off your jacket and tie as opposed to not be wearing them and everyone else in the room is.

After the initial meeting, it may by just a matter of wearing khakis. But the initial one has the biggest effect.

I never feel bad about having too many good looking suits.
