Did You Ever Celebrate Birthdays Or Holidays As A Witness?
by minimus ini knew some that secretly celebrated thanksgiving, the 4th of july, christmas (the day after) new year's eve, and birthdays.
my family always had a turkey on thanksgiving and we might invite only close friends that we knew would not get stumbled.

My children still got Christmas and birthdays as their father and his family were not JWs.
I was very glad for that.
I myself used to sit at home alone on Christmas. I finally did start going to my family's Christmas dinners, but left the room when the presents were given out. I did not feel bad about doing that. If there is only one time a year one can see one's family, how is it wrong to do so? Of course, I was told that I just should make the sacrifice and that Jehovah would make up for the fact that I was not going to see my loved ones.

Was There Ever A Circuit Overseer That You Couldn't Stand?
by minimus ini know this has been discussed before but i think a fresh thread on this will be enjoyable.

I think the question which begs asking is "Was there ever a circuit overseer you could stand?"

A Dumb Survey: Rate yourself
by moman inhow do you rate your yourself (mind, body, face & personality) on a 1-10 scale, with (# 5) being average?
no consideration given for age.
& please, no comments on the 'unimportance' of looks & no false- modesty!

Hmmm...how can age not be a factor? Let's face it, while others tell me I'm pretty and I look about 10 years younger than I really am, and that they hope they look like me when they are 47, if I were in a room with the young beauties on this list, no one would notice me. That's just the way it is. Tim would disagree, of course, but the sad fact is that I can't compare to someone young and beautiful.
As far as personality goes, since I've been sick, I have not taken the personal interest in others that I used to. I'm working on this. Even so, I'm almost invariably pleasant and always try to inject a lot of humor where ever I go.

play to the audience
I always played to the audience. I have mentioned some of my "talks" here (which really aren't talks, being as I am a mere woman); I used to use two "householders" and would do things like have the householders get in an argument. One time I had one of them storm off the stage because she was so pissed off at what I was saying. The "crowd" loved it (not trying to brag here, but let's face it, anything other than the usual boring fare is going to go over big time at the KH; they are all so bored and have heard it all a million times over).
At my final c ongregation, I made my first and only real JW friend. She and my younger daughter and I would laugh our way through the meetings. Maybe it wasn't a very kind thing to do, but we all have a great sense of humor and used to delight in making (what we thought were) pithy comments about the talk or the information.
Since, by that point, I was labelled a "nut case", no one bothered to "counsel" me. As for my friend, she was just too physically beautiful and men were in awe of her to begin with, so none dared speak to her about it. And my daughter is famed for being fiery; that young woman will verbally tear a person to pieces if she is challenged. So we got away with all the sarcastic comments.
My daughter left the "truth" before I got DF. As did my older daughter. My friend is still a Witness in very good standing.

circuit assembly talk insults fat people
by Ray6 ini haven't been to my circuit assembly yet, but i was told that one of the talks speaks about the horrible sin of being overweight, how jehovah hates fat and how we can not make it in the new world if we are fat.
is there anyone who knows about this?

JWs At My Door This Morning
by Francois ini was standing on my front porch talking on my cell phone when three car loads of them pulled up down the street.
by the time i finished my conversation, one of the jws was standing on my sidewalk waiting for me to get off the phone.
i eventually did.

If this is the best forum say 'I'!
by digderidoo insecond attempt to get thread up.. when i first joined this site, i seem to remember that there were many defectors from h2o coming over here, but this site was always the underdog.. i have just been to h2o for the first time in around 2 years, and to my astonishment, it is abysmal!!!!.
i have come to the realisations that this is the site for those seeking truth and knowledge.
this is the site for the xjw community.. so, if this is the best forum say 'i'.

US Patriotism VS the Rest of the World
by Xena inabaddon and i were having a discussion in another thread regarding the differences between us patriotism and european patriotism.
apparently some people consider the us to be peopled with rabid flag waving, my country right or wrong, ugly americans.
i am wondering what the general concensus of this board would be?.

Englishman,
I don't think Simon wrote that. I believe I was quoting Prisca.

Watchtower blueprint for the world
by JH in.
is it normal that the watchtower treats people the same way throughout the world even though there are different cultures and ways of living?.
since the watchtower says it represents god, why should everything be based upon us standards?
-
berylblue
They haven't even bothered to translate the Watchtower into other English languages other than American-English.
I have an honest question. What do you mean by that statement? Generally, I like to use the term "American" to describe the language I speak, as it did differ in many aspects from that of my English ex-husband. So, there's what I call "American", and what I call "English". What else is there? Candians, do you feel your version of English differs greatly from that of Americans?
