Just a question for those who may know ... but when the Organization looses its non-charity tax exemption, what would be actual loss to them. I'm assuming that any donations given to the local branch would be taxed. However as the Brothers are encouraged to do more and more direct debit donations, couldn't the money be just transferred off shore to the HQ in the States?

P. Ms Letter to non subscibers to Redress Scheme
by jonahstourguide inspotted this article this morning.
i will try to post a link.. jtg.. australia.. institutions refusing to join the national redress scheme are "doubling down" on the crime of child sexual abuse, prime minister scott morrison says.. mr morrison and social services minister anne ruston have warned institutions they may lose funding and tax concessions if they fail to sign up by tuesday's deadline and will be named and shamed.. "all institutions are doing in not joining is doubling down on the crime and doubling down on the hurt," they said in a letter to 25 institutions.. "we consider it to be reprehensible that you have failed to sign up to the scheme.".
the jehovah's witnesses is among the organisations that has refused to sign up, arguing it does not have the institutional settings of other faith-based institutions that the redress scheme is designed to cover.. senator ruston is set to name the non-participating institutions on wednesday, when she will announce what action the federal government will take against them.. "we urge you to join the scheme not because of concerns about being identified, but because it is the right thing to do," the minister and mr morrison said.. "it is the right thing to do by survivors and their families and it is what every, decent, honest, australian demands.".

their cover for the 2020 wt#3 also includes a bearded man.
this can not be a coincidence.

The fact the Governing Body changes the artwork for the WT (which actually are used as teaching tools), for non-western countries, begs me to ask the question ... is the written content varied, so as not to push away members in these lands? For example, obtaining higher education in India means a lot more than just getting a good job, for it contains a very strong social or cultural value to those people as well. Did then, the Indian Watchtowers have watered down comments against getting a Degree, or remove the slurs towards those who had one? It would be interesting to know.

I personally believe that things are not winding down, but winding up ... for WW3. Many political analysts who track the dynamics relationship between social behavior and war agree that there is a generational linking between the both of them. The theory offered by Strauss and Howe, (as explained in their book; the Third Turning) is one way to explain why each different generation doesn't understand the presiding and why major wars occur every 80 years or so. You can ever Wiki it if you like. Additionally I think that you can even apply its principles to the WT corporation and how behaves too.
Its a view of the world, that does actual give reason to the seeming mess of it.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread
by Simon inthis topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

Thanks for the serious thread.
While things in Australia are still calm and some are buying more to stock up, it has become very hard (all most impossible actually) to get N95 masks without paying extorted prices online. It would be prudent though for all of us (no matter where we live) to buy more long life foods just in case our local area is closed down for a while in quarantine. But sadly I believe that global containment has failed and ultimately it will spread globally. However if we can make provisions and socially distance ourselves, there is a chance we can remain unaffected until a vaccine is released.
Best of health to all.

Guys, I don't want to get burned here. But the Caronavirus is nothing like the normal flu. Its not the death rate once you get the infection, people should be looking, but rather the transmission rate ... the R0 figure. And when you consider this number you will quickly discern that the Caronavirus has the potential total global death rate to match the Spanish Flu of 1918. A medical study released this week predicts that with an R0 figure of R4 to R7 (which is how this has become) shows that 1.8 million Americans are projected to die and millions more hospitalized is this disease become established in your country. The is NOT the ordinary flu ... the R0 figure is everything.

When I heard the latest 'original song' at the meeting this week, I thought ... no wonder kids are leaving. It was straight out of the the 1960's. But hey ... everyone over 60 (which is more that half of my congregation) was having a blast.

If you speak against the Governing Body you will be punished.
by punkofnice inthis was a comment from the meeting(tm) on sunday.. the person that told me about it, is very confused about the validity of the corporation.
somewhere between a pimo and a pimi-lite.
the thing that angered me was that this person has cancer.

I think that you guys are far too highly emotional against the Governing Body. They are not at all different (both in thought process and actions) to that of Ruhollah Khomeine and his Iranian Clerics ... or the Clerics of Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and others that operate as Theocratic Governments around the world today. In fact we should be grateful for small mercies, in that the Governing Body's power over people is tempered by the power of the State.
Imagine for a moment, if the Governing Body had years ago encouraged the Brotherhood to sell their homes and move to make a new country somewhere in Africa. Would it now be any different to Iran ... I think not.
Its just the nature of man to dominate others to their injury, look it up ...its in the Bible.

As an ex-Elder, I can tell you most definitely, that any discussion with an Elder about doctrine will ALWAYS spiral down to the returned question of .... do you believe that the Governing Body is God's chosen channel today? Which leaves a honest questioner in a bad place.

Do You Think “Higher Education “Is All That??
by minimus inas jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.
i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.
it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

There are two streams of higher education a person can pursue. One of the Arts (including studying Art literally, Literature, Philosophy, history etc.) and vocational higher education for those desiring to move into medicine, engineering, law or education. Unfortunately, those studying the Arts generally will find conjecture due to the very nature of the material considered. For example, why is one work of art a treasure and another trash. The answer is found in personal and public opinion. The same goes for the valuing of ethics and social justice.
On the other hand, the calculation of load factors in bridge design is another issue all together, in that the answer is correct or not. And the same goes for the application of therapeutic techniques on people who are seriously ill ... or past legal judgements that act as precedents.
However in my experience, Professors, Doctors (those holding a doctorate) and other lecturers have proved to be very approachable and easy to question, even during a lecture. Of course no one will respond favorable if he is heckled by an argumentative student ... and neither would I, once I'd gone the hard yards of academia and personal practice. In regards to employment, well that's another story all together, in that I've seen many students choose undergrad courses that will lead nowhere. As we know, you can study KLINGON at the University of Texas in Austin, if you like ... but I don't think that your chances are good in earning a living at speaking it.

We must remember that the average publisher (if they actually kept on quoting it) would now be well under 1%. My guess that it would be between 0.85 and 0.9% in actuality. And it wouldn't be that hard to calculate it, if we averaged difference be average and peak publisher figures previously released over a few years.
However, it doesn't really matter in one way, in that while the GB initially got some good vibes when they switched over to quote the peak figures, the trend still continues downward. And their use of the inaccurate peak publisher numbers just goes to show how sad they have become.
What will they do when the peak publisher figure falls below 1%?
