At this point, I see no need to seperate the two.

Evolution or Creation??
by dottie inwell i know i may be opening a can of worms here.... but after what we were taught in the wts about creation...and now that you may know more about evolution... which do you think you'd choose to believe more??.
myself...i am leaning towards evolution...but then i read things that make me think otherwise.
so i do find it confusing sometimes .

This is kind of a continuation. In the thread "What happens to the dead". Rem & Funky corrected me on a false belief. The thought I had was that the enery that exists as brain waves and electrical impulses which make you heart beat, leave the body as soon as you are clinicly dead. So after looking into it a little more, the energy does store its self. But now I have a new question. How long? At some point the tissues get dryed up or decay. So the thought I am having is, "IF" the soul were connected to the living body, at what point does it leave the body? Or when does it cease to exist, depending on your beliefs. But at what point do you think we actually die.

It was a compliment actually. But yeah , could go both ways eh. Seriously though I didn't mean any insult, your obviously both very intellegent folks. I was looking at Susan Blackmore's web sight after you mentioned her. Pretty interesting. I remember my Mom having Sagan's books when I was growing up. Thank you for the list. I'll put them on the to do list. Lots of work with school now doesn't leave much time for extra, but I am sure they will be interesting.

Your self and Rem could be a lawers. You would probally do very well. Your constant insistance on hard factual evidence is a good thing in a quest for answers. If it wern't for people with this attitude we might still believe the world to be flat. unfortunately, disagreing the point that I don't believe science will ever be able to prove or disprove an after life is its self an opinion. When picking apart anothers words, involving phrases like psudo-star trek and christian urban legend are effective in making anothers opinion seem less intellegent. Disagrements can lead to healthy changes in opinion. But, Belief in a superior life force, and life after death are still at this point opinion based. Just to clarify though, Yes, I do think that soul enrgy could be described as mystical.

Creation or evolution? First as a boy I believed in creation because I heard a preacher say it was true. Then I thought "Well, maybe my teacher is right because of fossils and the recorded facts". But do you believe they could co-exist? Evolution of species is documented, not only in humans. There isn't much to take that away. And we have the Biblical account of creation. What do you think about the thought that Evolution might be part of creation. Evolution being the process which God used to get things the way they eventually became.

I am not talking about enegy that can be burned or broken down. Yes you are correct. a decomposing body gives off it's energy much the same as when we eat a steak. I am talking about electrical impulses which travel through you brain spinal columb, and nervous system. This type of energy is not stored in lifeless tissue. As far as the experiment goes, like I said , I am sorry I don't have details. It was not the same one you mentioned though. You can say what you like about it I suppose since I didn't bother to write down sources during my conversation. I don't think it would matter if I had. Yes your right, there is no hard evidence that what you call a NDE can prove an afterlife. I was not speaking of near death, I am talking about life after death. Clinical death, in a hospital setting. I don't believe there will ever be any way to prove this. So this disagreement could hypotheticlly go on forever. I understand all of you explanations. They make sense. I just have a different point of view. I believe ojective evidence is a good thing. There are some things though that can not be proven or disproven.

Well I suppose I should try to clarify some things.
1) First, if a ballon is deflated, it does not its self lose wieght. The combined weight of the ballon and air together will change. What I am saying is actually quite simple.
2) When the brain waves stop, it is true that it is because the brain stops transmitting them. But, the energy cannot be stored in lifeless brain cells.
At death, The energy that exists as brain waves actualy is released. Where it goes can only be speculated. And I did not suggest that this was magic. To compare the brain to a computer that stops working is okay if you are trying to make an analogy. I do not think that all electricity is in fact a soul.
3) I do not have specific details of the study I spoke of. So you can choose to think what ever you like. I heard about it through discussion with someone I have lost contact. I really wish I knew more details. I seem to remember that the patients were coma patients, and hospice patients. Kind of like when someone signs his body over to science. Sorry I don't have actual facts about that.
3)A life after death experience may be able to be imagined, this is true. But, actual medical death-revival is documented. I happen to be related to such an individual. It's hard to say because so many people may only be haveing a dream experience? thats possible. Our brain is quite powerful. But its interesting to me, that so many have a simular dream.
4) The reason I am dismissive of the soul dying when the body dies is because it is my opinion. My opinion is based on what I choose to believe. I choose to believe in my faith in God our creator.
5) I was not athiest bashing. I was talking about Jehovah's Witness'. It "seems" that they do not have to worry about any thing if you don't live right. Either you are one of the 144,000 , or you come back to a perfect earth, or you just cease to exist. If you cease to exsit, You don't care about anything because your not there. So "party like it's 1999". Maybe I am wrong, but thats what it seems like to me. I work with a dub who feels this way, thats what made me think of it.
6) You draw a distinct line between yourself and I because you say you don't believe in imposibilities. Really it is the same thing that I said stated a different way. I said I believe in posibilities. What I ment by that was that anything is posible. What I did not mean was that I though that anything was imposible. I also realize I could be completely wrong about everything.
Just because I think or belive something doen't make it true. -

Technicly, a person dies when the brain waves stop. Brain waves are like electric impulses, energy. One of the most basic things learned in chemistry or physics is that you can not create or destroy energy. There was an actual study that weighed dying patients and recorded every thing possible. the most interesting finding was that the body loses a fraction of weight the split second brain waves stop. So what was that? does the soul have weight? It is very interesting that documented cases of people who have been recorded as clinicly dead, then revived, all had simular life after death experiences. I just don't buy that the soul dies with the body. It seems to closed minded and ignorant of a view to me. But I can understand how one might believe other wise. None of us really know for sure until we face death our selves. But, if you believe there is no concequence of sin, (like decieving people) then it makes it easier to sleep at night. I believe in possibilities. I believe it is possible that none of us knows what happens. personally, I think we join God when we die. I pray I am right.
