by Bethelite Elder ina couple of weeks ago, an ex-bethelite(10 years) by the name of mel smith was disfellowshipped.
i understand that he still lives in ny are and has a mortgage company.

Does anyone think that maybe we're just wrong?
by paul from cleveland ini was disfellowshipped in 1995. even though i lost my friends and family, i felt like i had been finally set free and was happy for many years.
while i was a jehovah's witness, i always felt so miserable.
i never felt like i was doing enough to please jehovah.

MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS DIED
by Mary inthis is one post i had always hoped i would never have to do, but after a long and brave battle, my beloved brother in law has died.
i have done a couple of threads on this in the past, so many of you know the battles he was facing.
he had been diagnosed earlier this year with myelodysplastic syndrome and the mortality rate of this disease is quite high.

Everything About Being An Elder is Weird (my misc rambling memories of being an elder)
by AllTimeJeff infor any brother who is a jehovah's witness, the goal is put before them to reach out for the privilege of being an elder.
i can only speak for myself, but being born into the religion, i wanted to be an elder since i was 5. i would have much rather wanted to be a doctor or engineer, but those are the breaks..... i'll skip the part about what it takes to reach out, all the crap you have to put up with as a ministerial servant to get appointed, and go straight to the reality.. i know many elders who sincerely just wanted to be shepherds.
i did want the spotlight.

So does this mean I can get reinstated?

The true test comes from the question.
To be able to ask yourself that question is a sign of an active reasoning mind.
The real test is would you be able to form and seriously consider that same question when an active JW? Or would it be a sign of spiritual weakness?

JW since you were small....did your parents expect too much?
by wantstoleave ina couple of other threads made me think about this.. do you think that jw parents expect far more of their children than non-jw parents?
even if we discount the religious side of things, do you think you were more answerable to your parents?
you had fears of disappointing them?.

Blondie -- My father was not a jw and was more demanding and expecting perfection than any jw I have ever met. I thought my name was Stupid until I was about 5.

I thought my name was damn-it until I started school.

Did You See Politics In "Jehovah's" Organization?
by minimus init is amazing to note that some witnesses actually believe the organization is totally "theocratic, run by the top down".
i believe many witnesses could never accept former jw's writing about their experiences because they just couldn't imagine all the backroom deals and questionable practices that indicate holy spirit has nothing to do with the process.. did you experience "politics" within the theocracy?.

I wasn't aware of it in the congregation where I grew up, but when I moved to another area to go to college, observed lots of politics and questionable actions.
