Matthew 7 and Jehovah's Witnesses!

i am writing another letter to a jw friend who still feels that she can convince me to come back to the organisation.

in the letter i realised that i was quoting a lot from matthew 7, and i decided it may be beneficial to just make some notes about some of the verses in the chapter with regards to the organisation and how it compares.

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

The true sense of what this verse means in no way justifies any attempt to use it to judge another's behaviour in comparison. The verse only ever speaks to the reader because that is the one who is being addressed.

If one compare's Matt 7:1 with Mark 12:31...

"The second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these."

... to love God is to love your neighbour, to love your neighbour is to love God, and to love God is to love yourself. Therefore to judge your neighbour is to judge God and yourself. What is the solution to judgement?....

"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

When you remove judgement from your own mind, you'll see clearly how judgement was removed from your brother's. There are neither a JW's nor appostates, for we are all ONE in Christ (Galatians 3:28)

Alternatively, " if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out" Matt 5:29

A Course in Miracles

i've just started reading a course in miracles and wondered if any one here has any thoughts or any contact with this book?

as an ex-jw i find it hard to accept reading any other religious publication but i find the idea of the ego's attempt at separation as the real issue against the idea of original sin a fascinating concept.

also the book was channeled!

Anyone who has read ACIM and understands what it actually says and it's implications will know that "Jesus" is no more than an idea. Like Rebel8 says, "its not based in fact", and that's the whole point. The book may be seen as expounding on Buddha's 4 noble truths and 8-fold pathway by way of an abstract re-interpretation of the story of Jesus for the purpose of acheiving peace of mind or "enlightenment", and as such, "facts" like who wrote it, who owns the copyright, channelling claims, exploitation for commercial benefit (whether cultish or not), whether Jesus existed, etc... are entirely irrelevent to the text, it's application and purpose. It may be seen in other ways, and other's can have their own interpretation on what it says and use the book in a way that they see fit.

which reminds me of the truman show, the film that many of us here have taken as a metaphor for realising that the jehovah's witness world is not real.. but now i can't help wondering what happened to truman when he left his fake world and entered the real world.

Interesting questions Slim, and answers depend on subjective experience. Although i'd say there's plenty of info and experiences to give the answer yes. Just remember, if ultimately the whole world you perceive is false including everything you believe, there has to be a remedy. Some have failed to see a remedy and have taken their own lives because their whole perception became meaningless. At the very least be open to the idea that, if you may not be who you think you are, you can always trust your Self that you may not perceive yet to get you to Truth.

Is the Holy Spirit God Himself or a force like in Star Wars?

The Holy Spirit is a part who you are within the Father. Jesus, son of man, (re)merged with Holy Spirit in the mind and became Christ, Son of God, and it was Christ who said "no one can come to the Father except through me". Christ returns the Holy Spirit back to you in the mind for your acceptance so that you can become Christ also, "for we are all ONE in Christ", what is known as AtOneMent (in one mind)

Implications:

We are not a body, but actually mind/spirit
The world including the body is a projected perception/thought/ego within the mind (veil of maya, the fall). Time is an apparent measure/effect of perception in motion and therefore possible to perceive it at different rates or as "stillness"
Miracles are not an inexplicable change in "reality" but simply a change/correction in perception for the purpose of making all minds one in God (the ultra mind/Source/Father)
"physician; heal thyself" becomes the same as "know thyself" because knowing the truth of who you are is healing
Forgiveness is the relinquishment of belief in perception as real with real effects/acceptance of the truth, which then allows miracles to take effect to demonstrate that perception is not real (faith in action/works)
The only acceptable "praise" of God is to love your brother as yourself because he is yourself for we are all one in Christ, Christ being in the Father and the Father in Christ. Action within the mind contrary to this is an attack upon yourself/denial of love/denial of reality and reinforcement of the fall/perception.
Love is the only reality/truth, therefore denial of truth is fear, and as there is nothing else besides love, fear (and all emotional derivitives thereof) is not a true state of being nor a true emotion.
The practice of the above actions is the effect of the Holy Spirit within you because "of yourself alone you can do nothing".
Holy Spirit is love, God is love, Christ is love, you are love, WB&TS is an apparent product of fear and therefore doesn't exist :p
If Jesus accepted atonement, and we are one with him in Christ, not only did he do it for us but you already accepted and were resurected, and therefore the perception of the world is only an apparent memory of the past being revisited in each instant

it's a scan (you can thank iloowy for the scan) of the march 15, 2010 watchtower where there's a picture of a radiant sun of a wt logo along with a tm mark right next to a paragraph that says 'they "will shine as brightly as the sun"' (matthew 13:43).. .

a good friend and long-time elder just back from patterson, asked me what i thought is he most prevalent problem elders are facing today....told him i had no idea.... he said "pornography" by far the most vexing problem for them... hard to believe, no?.

District Convention's - Control Freaks

since for many years i served at many levels of convention administration for 5000-6000 attendance (small conventions), i think back and shake my head at the control freak policies.

do any of you remember?

when i used to attend 8 day conventions, (3 sessions a day 9:00-12:00 1:30-4:30 6:00-9:00) departments were huge to organize.

Contribution of Franz books on your decision to leave?

the recent resurrected topic on franz' books got me curious.. how much did his writing contribute to your decision to leave?.

for myself, it was another brick in the wall but not more important than any other.

i was a little different than most in that i regularly read anti-witness stuff from the very beginning and never stopped.

it made a significant contribution to my decision to leave, because at the time of reading it i was still in a quandry as what i should do for the best (the effect of mind control). i had always had major doubts about those who were in charge of the legal fictional construct known as the "WTB&TS". the book confirmed my original doubts and so i made the desicion to leave.

now looking back on it, i never really left or joined. the whole thing was an illusion in my mind.
