Often when the WTS uses the word "prophet" concerning themselves, you will notice that the word is surrounded by quotation marks, indicating not a seer, but a prophet in a quasi-sense. It is just like the Billy Graham is called a prophet (see "A Prophet With Honor : The Billy Graham Story" by William Martin)
and another Church leader, Klemp (see "Autobiography of a Modern Prophet"
by Harold Klemp). The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language uses the word *prophet* also as "A person gifted with profound moral insight and exceptional powers of expression" and "The chief spokesperson of a movement or cause." This is how the word prophet is used of these men in a quasi-sense, just like JW's use it.
Again, we, unlike the Mormons, do not refer to each other as prophets.

[email protected] This is how it was explained to me. I find this very thin. They use more than a quasi-definition of inspirational guidance when a person is df'd for not believing the necessary things as stated during baptism

To JW's who believe WT is the"Truth"
by ARoarer ini have seen comments by jw's who support the notion that thier is a group of "special men" like russell that jehovah has selected to write down the "inspired" thoughts through watchtower and awake and other publications.. .
first of all, the bible tells us that god "cannot lie" and every "inspired utterances are true".
that being the case, how can the truth of god originate in lies by a man, russell who was heavily involved in the occult.?

I believe we are genetically close even to plant life. The problem I have with an unguided evo are the odds of random generation of complex design products even parallel occurences. But that is even more true with the chances of a universe as ordered as it is being the result of some random quantum-vacuum fluctuation. It is obvious to me that there has been a steady growth in complexity to the human brain and lots of precursors and I can't reconcile that yet. Previous creatures seemed to be evolving. But, I have an open mind.

In Search of Christian Freedom
by berylblue infranz stated something in this mind-blowing book which was definitely true for me.. he stated (this is a poor paraphrase) that very early on during a "study", witnesses can easily show what's in the bible regarding god's name, the condition of the dead, living on paradise earth, etc.
once these are proven to a person's satisfaction, when the study moves on to more complicated matters, it is just easier to accept what isn't understood on the basis that so far, everything has seemed true.
by now, there is an emotional investment -and everything up until now seemed fine, so.....................................let's swallow it all, and what is too difficult to swallow comfortably (blood?

The most inspiring book I've ever read. I wish I had read CoC sooner, like a decade ago. In Search of was so open and honest it seemed. I wish Ray was much younger, though.

Do you believe in Armageddon ??? Watchtower sure scares them good !!!
by run dont walk inalot of discussion referring to the new book released learning from the great teacher, and the scene of armageddon page.
what a pile of garbage, how could the society justify in publishing such pics.. if/when armageddon comes (which i doubt), it probaly would not take more than one minute.
i cannot see people running around screaming in terror, with their clothes torn and beating each other up, like the watchtower portrays, just another scare tactic for the watchtower.

College and EX-JW Discontent....Questions and Stats
by teenyuck in*many* ex-jws say that they were robbed of an education due to the wtbts and as a result, they feel that their families and the wt screwed up their life by depriving them of the opportunity to go to college and therefore, earn a high salary at a job they love.
here is a link to the us census which shows that approximately 26% of the us population graduates college.
page 5, towards the bottom, shows the college graduation stats.

I quit in my fourth year at the University of Cincinnati in 1972 because I had learned the "truth" recently and the world was going to end within 3 years. My parents, Methodists were very disappointed. I was 22 and very gullible. I already had graduated from a technical school 3 years earlier. Got into a skilled trade that paid well but was somewhat dangerous so the money didn't matter that much. Never was into money anyway. I believed it was the truth till about a year or so ago. Thank you for this website. Going to finish just for the hell of it especially since my emplyer will foot the bill.

To Those With Ears to Hear...
by AGuest into that he said, "the reply is not yours to make; it is mine.
his reply was that, "have i not told them?
so, then i asked how it was that i was speaking directly to the father, and not to the son, as i usually do.

Janis Joplin spoke with the Lord many times in person. He offered her a better car than the others and they were just as outraged.

Furuli's New Books--Attempt to Refute COJonsson
by ros ini just heard that the norwegian watchtower apologist, rolf furuli, who esteems himself a biblical scholar of semetic languages, has completed the first of two volumes he plans to publish on the societys chronology, assyrian, babylonian, egyptian and persian chronology compared with the chronology of the bible.. title of this first volume is: persian chronology and the length of the babylonian exile of the jews.. i hear that although carl olof jonsson is not mentioned by name, or reference made to his book "gentile times reconsidered," it is nevertheless apparent that these volumes are an attempt to refute jonssons excellent study which has exposed the watchtowers 1914 date as total folly.. .
the book can be ordered now from furulis new personal website:.

One has to look no further than the origin of the 1914 date borrowed by Russell and even arrived at incorrectly due to the lack of a zero year in chronology. The 2520 years have been kicked around for two hundred years in one fashion or another.

Our Lost Histories
by ashitaka intonight the wife is out, and i had some time to think.. i was watching tv but got bored, because there is a fantastic thunderstorm going on right now.. i turned off everything, and started to think about things, ans why i've had a kind of empty feeling lately, as to my past.
i think about the little things, the history of my life.. somewhere, i lost my life to the jws, that early time that is supposed to be the most important in forming who we become.. i remember being a child, but can't remember when i felt like a child, i just seem to be missing something.
is it the birthdays, holidays, friends i was barred from having?

I feel similarly at times. I think that is only natural upon recollection. You did not miss your life. That was part of it. That was who you were then. Also, that organization did provide a measure of protection. You life could have gone many ways outside "truth" some of them costly in health, etc. I regret many things. But I think I would say the same otherwise. It's easy to think of what could have been accomplished. But some things take a level of persistence and concentration that make achievement very difficult. I can't express the measure of relief felt now from that cult. Even during the most spiritual times in the truth there was always the underlying doubt and guilt because I took all the little, subtle "helps" seriously like "can you justify before Jehovah why you are not pioneering?" and "to the extent we Love Jehovah and his organization we will be out in service", and "are you involved in dead works?" I remember thinking 'this will be my last summer' many times because I was so unworthy, even though never df or even disciplined and a regular publisher for many years. Look how much more wise and mature you are now. No experiences are wasted. Your friend.
