Why no contact in our own galaxy? The habitable zone is on the rim where we are. the whole galaxy is 100,000 light years across roughly. In the last 50 years we could have picked up anything broadcast within a 50 light year arc each way from us along the habitable area of the Milky Way of beings at the same level as us. Others could be farther out if they were broadcasting longer which means they developed faster than us if they are the same age. Some limits exist and it takes time to get all conditions right for life so life couldn't have gotten too much of a head start elsewhere if it is similar. I don't think anyone's there. The odds are just too great against it even counting all the area in this galaxy.

How many of the public go to the Public Talk?
by truthseeker inif you're still going to meetings, how many of the public actually go to the public talk?
or do you see the same old tired worn faces?.
in my hall, you never see a member of the public just come in and say, i'd like to stay and hear this talk.. was there ever a time when complete strangers would just come in, sit down and actually listen?.

I never saw anyone. Good, because I was usually not impressed with the speaker. Usually one of the illiterate members of the elders' club. Good 'ol boys who murdered the English language and were not deep thinkers.

Here's one possible scenario: In 3 billion years a different event will take place. Andromeda galaxy will collide with our Milky Way galaxy. It is headed our way now at great speed but has a long way to go. When galaxies collide, much of the matter passes thru but gravitational rearangements occur and sometimes they appear to stay merged. Hubble pictures illustrate this. Especially for spiral galaxies like ours and Andromeda's. Perhaps this convenient timing will allow for some kind of reprieve from the apparently inevitable fate of the Sun. Afterall, many coincidences have allowed the solar system to be in the life habitable region of a spiral galaxy and for the earth to be in a life zone around the sun with a single large moon that induces an extremely stable orbit.

A good question to ask jws, and an important realization for me.

i mean seriously, you can't get 4 people to decide on dinner!
how are you going to get 6 million to agree on countless and everchanging doctrinal pronouncements.

Towards the end of my experience as a witness, I was troubled by this. It seemed many weren't bothered ar didn't care, even on big issues. It was more a social club. I don't think the elders all believed in the absolute dogma put out by the borg. As long as you made a showing and played the game you were highly approbed.

Yeah, for the whole thing from '72 on. Wife was pregnant in '75. That daughter of mine is now 29 and expecting her 2nd child. Life's great ain't it? Remember the DO stating from the platform, what many will think if we ever get to 12/31/75.

A little more about me
by Ticker inhello everyone, you have probably read some of my posts but i wish to tell a little more about my story, not all of it but just to give a mindset of where i stand and how i feel.. i had been a witness since childhood as i had been indoctrinated at a very young age by a zealous grandmother who had devoted her life to an organization.
like i had stated before i have come to realize she was serving a image of god created for her consumption by imperfect men, but none the less i know she meant well in her actions.
i have always had a good heart toword others and god, and though at times it troubles me to think of how i used to carry the jw mindset of judging others viewpoints and faith, not intentionally but because of being molded into such a form through misdirected thinking.

Read your post, Ticker. Troublesome indeed. It sounded as if you were at your best in the remote territory and left alone. You appear to have a missionary spirit. Perhaps when your responsibilities are cared for someday, you can go to a far flung area and help in one of the many institutions doing charitable work, religious or otherwise. But, in any organization, people will grind on you sometimes. They can be so petty. Love gives you a thick skin to carry on. Please keep us posted. Love, Carlton
