it's kinda funny i've had quite a few people that were amazed that i used to be a jw, some have even thought i was b/s them.
i guess after so many years i cover it up well.
has anyone else run into the same thing?
Even when I was a elder people were surprised when they found out I was a witness. I dressed in an thrift shop style - velvet jacket and flares - when they expected mormon suits or jesus sandals. thankfully i no longer feel the need to dress to confound preconceptions.

the rain and voter apathy look harder to overcome than witness indoctrination as up to now the turn out seems low.. strangely, my jw family, despite their neutrality, are all keenly interested in how i vote.
i wonder if they could be persuaded to break the taboo.
To my glee, all my candidates succeeded! But to be honest, my choice was with those that I find least offensive rather than really believe in.

My polling station was a church so I risk being in trouble for false worship or political bias! You could always tell your friends that you were suggesting voters vote for the Kingdom!

my mates last wage slip was different this month,he seems to be paying more tax than usual,so he went and asked the boss and was told that the whole country is on emergency tax at the moment so we are all paying more and should recieve a rebate in the future,he's been with the company for over 10 years so it's not as if he's a new employee who always start off on emergency tax.. iv'e never heard anything like this before?

I run payroll for my staff and this part of the country certainly isn't on Emergency codes. It's more likely to do with the hike in Nat Ins which the war in Iraq nicely obscured.
when i was a kid we used to catch daddy long legs and throw them into spiders webs on the trees outside...then when the spider had finished of the dllegs we would throw the spider into a bigger spiders web and watch them battle it out....sick huh, i kinda like these things now so couldnt hurt em but any insect that used to come into contact with us had a cruel existence.
anyhow i just heard that the most poisonous insect of all insects is daddy long legs.
just an interesting something that i thought i would share before i go a swatting .
I confess to torturing daddy long legs in a whole variety of ways.
I used to turn on a gas hob and then throw them through (learnt that from the Bible stories of passing children through he fire). Their legs would shrivel off but they'd survive. Alternately they'd get to spend a few minutes in the freezer after which I'd 'resurrect' then with the electric whatdyamacallit used to light the hob. I felt like God. Until my elder brother's girlfriend found out and was horribly disappointed with me. I'd had a bit of a crush on her so the insects were saved. I was also prone to burning any insect I could with a magnifying glass.
Hope there's never an insect revolution.

In the real world I love arguing with my friends over anything, but it's tempered by vocal tone and physical contact which emoticans don't even begin to express. As a result the discussions on the board can sound bitter when they are not intended to be, and are protracted as they cross time zones which can make them a little wearing.
The name calling that goes on is the most tedious aspect - like the accusation of JWism - it isn't an arguement, isn't constructive or persuasive. But then again the heat with which some people try to prove their qualifacations or experience in some matters does give moments of hilarity.
I must say that for some reason you always come across as a pretty chilled cookie and are often a pleasure to read.

the woman who died was very old.
i hadn't seen her in a very long time, we weren't close but i remember her being really nice to us as kids.
Hhmmmm... I went to a funeral last year for my sister-in-law's father. It left me feeling pretty shitty. Everyone was pleasant, and the only pressure came from a mentally retarded brother that I've known all my life and didn't phase me. But it was the fact that everyone was pleasant to me. The majority were people I've known all my life and their friendship was... muted, and the conversation very superficial.
I grew up and remained in the same congregation for 30 years and have left behind some lovely elderly friends, ones who had asked me to take their funerals when the time came, but now I think I'd miss the event entirely. Funerals are not required for me to find some sort of closure I suppose.
But I hope you find what you're looking for when you go Be Wise.
