Brits. Will you vote in next month's General Election?
by nicolaou inas everyone had guessed, the election has been set for may 5th.
personally, this is my first opportunity 'post wt mind-control' to vote for our next government.
i don't suppose that i will - 40 years of 'neutrality' and non-involvement have rather flattened my desire to take part in political change.. how about you?

LittleToe's Travels - April 2005
by LittleToe innow that i'm finally back, having got my report out of the way for the current stage of my studies, i thought it about time i posted an update of my travels.. i recently had a "wee jolly" away from the island that wasn't without incident.. i left in the wee hours of the morning on friday 1st april, and i can assure you that catching a boat at 6:30am, with a poor weather forecast, is no joke.
having said my hellos to some fellow passengers, that i recognised, i decided to catch some zzzzzeds on one of the couches.. i awoke about three hours later, and rushed downstairs to the galley to get a big-ass full traditional breakfast (complete with black pudding, but no beans ).
after guzzling it down, the boat was near port, so i decided to splash some water on my face before heading down to the car deck.

rebel8, the book lists that the Priory of Sion is a fact, when it is in fact a hoax, hence the debunking.
It's trash but fun, with the the right amount of recognisable locations and institutions to make you suspend your disbelief, albeit temporarily.
It did strike me last week that the M on JP2's coffin could read as further evidence of a Mary Magdalene cover up...

Telling someone you've known a long time that you were a JW
by comment intonight i was out having dinner with a friend/colleague i've known for five or six years.
the conversation turned to religion: first religion in politics, then his general distaste for religion, and then his lack of a religious upbringing.
there was a lull for a moment, and then i said "it was pretty much the reverse situation in my household.

I have no problem with people knowing I was a Witness, most are interested in finding out about a relatively unknown part of society. It's spawned many a dinner party discussion. And if it were to affect how someone percieved me, then that's their problem, not mine.

Hi
My experience was that having resigned as an elder and ceased attending meetings for two years, the elders began to pursue me when it became apparent that I was in a homosexual relationship. I ignored their calls but let them know (via the thriving JW grapevine) that I would take legal action if they continued calling. They called the dogs off. They were however, a rather young and naive bunch of elders and I didn't have your stellar profile so a legal a threat may be futile.
About 18 years ago there was a similar situation to yours within my extended family. The catalyst was different in that the JW spouse took her life a year after her husband (ex elder and C.O.) left her for another woman. He hadn't been to meetings in a decade and was quite open about his complete disbelief but was disfellowshipped because of his previously high profile and the tragic circumstances.
I'm sorry that I can't relate a more positive experience to you but it seems that you may have to bite the bullet, and see how you family reacts. Good luck and I hope your partner is a good support.

Nic
what if i don't like apples?
You mean you don't like democracy?! I know what you mean. I reckon it can be a bit like choosing which party you dislike the least. At least by voting Green in Scotland, we get representaion which unfortunately wont happen in Westminister.
IT
Think I've said it before, but the Lib Dems are the ones I'd be most likely to have round for dinner. That Nat's can't get my vote because Nicola Sturgeon's hair dye doesn't match her skin tone and if she can't master the basics of cosmetics how will she ever manage with fiscal policy. Plus Salmond's a bit of a monarchist toadie.

I have a couple of friends in Athens who registered for military service just before the possibility of civilian service arose, because a year in prison was preferable (to them) to 3 years working in some rural mental institution. They spent a year in an open, agricultural prison, picking oranges, herding sheep and working in the bakery. One of them thought it had been the best year of his life, free from responsibility and the stress of being an Athenian courier. The downside had been trapped with one or two self righteous ****.
The alternative civilian service is no picnic. Young guys are posted out all over the country doing crap, menial work for 3 years. Some non-JW Greeks I met wished they had gone to prison rather than serve time in the army because they'd had such a hideous time.

I'll vote, as it at least gives me the right to whinge afterward, something you can't do if you don't vote Nico. Having said that, the vote for Westminster isn't as fair as the one for Holyrood, where we get 2 choices, and both of mine counted.
Fair enough not voting on principle, but not voting out of apathy...
