Go, be breezy and nice, smiles all round, press flesh - like a hybrid politician/JW and engage no one in meaningful conversation. Leave early.

You're right Peppermint, I withdraw my comments. His use of language that minorities have found offensive must surely be down to ignorance on his part. And it's that classic type of philandering Tory, without a track record of implemeting meaningful change that is now mayor. I don't "like" Ken, but he sure as hell had a lot more going for him.

I can’t stand Brown. Scottish git…….
One of many.
Nice to see a racist, bigoted homophobe leading London. Soon the rest of the Bullingdon Club will be ruling the country. I'm not a Nationalist but I'd certainly consider it rather than a return to Tory rule.

Jw upbringing and retarded social growth.
by AK - Jeff ini was raised a jw, by an inactive jw mom.
looking back, and reflection on my childhood, causes me to wonder.. i honestly did not miss the holidays, for example.
i never had them, so nothing was taken away in that regard.

Like Mulan, it certainly wasn't my experience, and my partner thinks that most exJWs he meets are socially high functioning.
Not that everyone was socially adept in the congregation, but thinkig of my peers who weren't, they were the product of parents (recent converts) who were socially inept and they possibly allowed their faith to exacerbate it in their kids.

I wonder how having been a JW affects ou approach to the death penalty.
Having spent years with a vengeful barbaraic Jehovah, it would make some sense that some support it. But then again having spent years believing that justice can only be delivered by the Divine would result in us being against it.
The Nothing Man seems to want vengence that will contribute zero to the victim's quality of life. A harsher custodial sentence and significant fine may have been more satisfactory for me.

If a JW girl falls pregnant to a 'worldly person'...before marriage??
by Lantana ini've had many encounters with jw's throughout the years and i've found them to be decent, caring people.
i've attending meetings, read a number of awake!
and watchtower publications and so on and so forth.. the book 'crisis of conscious' by ray franz was really eye-opening for me and served as a strong warning for those about to enter the organisation...its easy to fill in the blanks from there -- i never became a jw.

Back to my example, suppose this girl of 16 was Baptized, told her parents she was pregnant and was disfellowshipped by the organisation. Are there examples of parents overriding the organisation, or is it simply get disfellowshipped -- have the baby -- then get reinstated if repentant? If the parents wish to control it instead and rail against the rules, are they given the boot too?
It's highly unlikely the parents will have a say. If she's baptized she stands as an individual before the judicial committee and if her parents kicked up a fuss there'd be repercussions for them. Even if she is disfellowshipped it is within the realms of possibility that the parents will continue to house and care for their daughter and grandchild, although being kicked out the house is also a possibility if the parents are hardliners. In my experience, grandchildren permit JWs to be more lenient in shunning, although not always.

re your comments Blondie: You may have faded, but you have actually left. I'm referring to those that have been on the board long term and still attend meetings and I'm not being critical. I attended meetings for 6 months knowing full well I thought it all baloney, and I felt like my head would burst.

When You Were a JWD Newbie - Were You Shown a Warm Welcome ?
by flipper inone thing we all have in common - everybody who started posting on jwd , were all " new " posters in the beginning on this board.
so take yourself back in time for a minute - how were you received here ?
did people welcome you warmly ?

There was no welcome committee when I joined, but I wasn't looking for one, nor was I looking for an online community to belong to. It's a discussion forum, not a club. To me.
