personally i was quite serious at a young age.. there was no "boys will be boys" growing up.
personally i feel kind of cheated out of a childhood by an organization that forced you to think that "everything around you was going to be gone soon so you better grow up, start publishing, and giving talks.
" did any of you experience a less than stellar childhood, especially because of the lack of holidays and socially-isolating religion gowing up?
I didn't know I never had a childhood until I was told by my husband that I didn't. However, if my parents were not JWs I still would not have had a childhood. It is a generational defect and dysfucntion in our family.

within a few weeks i leased a condo on the banks of the willamette river just out side the city of portland.
as she got into her car she looked at me funny again, laughed and just shook her head.. .
i told him that if i said i was sorry, i knew that is what they wanted to hear but it was not the truth.
once again bravo.
and a side note to Lady Lee's suggestion---I heard that glasses with amber lenses will help with dislexia too. Not sure if they are the 'blue-blocker' kind or just yellow/amber lenses. Might be worth a try!

are you: a minority group called "jew" a majority group called "greek" a minority group called "christian"
to believe in christ, the jews asked for a powerful sign, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the greeks appealed to logic and wisdom, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the christians simply believed, and treated it as a personal calling.. which category do you believe you fall into 1, 2 or 3?.

gnosticism was my first pit stop after JWs, and at the same time as paganism. And the kid in a candy store was so me! I had a UU friend pay for a summer's worth of seminars at harvard divinity and the library was like HEAVEN! I am still reading about gnosticism and that was 7 years ago--I have about 100 pages scheduled for this week end in "The Early Christian World" vol 2, by Phillip Esler--and if anyone knows the book it is like 1000 pages of Elaine Pagels....not the easiest reading in the world for sure.
My furlough into gnosticism was directly related to my genealogy and heritage research. I come from Clan Sinclair who have deep Templar roots and owned Roslyn Chapel. Also Clan Hay who were known to be sorcerors and who pissed off Thomas the Rhymer once and he cursed their sacred tree and they lost their lands. On the other side I have connections to Hugues du Payen and Chartres. I also have some gypsy blood--which for me gives me a Hindu/Persian connection. There were more groups of gnostics than just Christian ones....
So I really dont know what to call how I believe. It is not Neo-pagan, and it is definitely not Chrisitian, but it is not hostile to either. I hesitate to use the word Gnostic only because of its origins, which I am not greek either. And New Age sounds so fluffy and I am NOT fluffy. I need a new word.

puttytat--silk.
silk shirt, same color silk tie. silk or silk blend pants---pleats are out, flat front is in. Watch Queer Eye on Bravo. Italian leather shoes. shoes in LA can go more euro and warm weather than other places...those woven leather oxfords with the tassel are cool. if you are basically a warm colors sort of guy--browns, golds, beiges, creams, olive. If you are more cool colors--greys, silvers, muted medium toned blues, cool taupes and khakis.
this is autumn. formal formals--always black for both of you--make sure she has some pearls and sexy shoes. also appropriate are creamy whites--no white whites. The big thing in womens formal is 'goddess' gowns or drapey things that look like Aphrodite would wear it and the colors for this fall are(according to Cosmo) Rose, Pea-green, Gold and Bronze.
sounds like fun!

hmmmm LT---I suppose if I had to choose it would be Greek(love feta cheese! and black olives!)...but the only reason why I would convert to xtianity would be becoz they built a Cathedral on top of my dolmens and cut down my sacred tree and carved it into their Virgin Goddess in the blue robe....

okay, let's go along with the flood story for a moment, to the point where noah exits the ark.. here we have noah, with two of each animal and seven of the clean animals; maybe a few dozen animals that were not essential to the future survival of the species.. what does god do?.
tells noah he can eat animals now.. are you telling me an all-wise, all-knowing god isn't capable of better planning than that?
which strikes you as more likely?
silly isnt the word I would use.
I can invalidate the whole thing in three scriptures.(Kinda like I can name that tune in three notes...)
point:
OT: The Lord your God is a Jealous God....yada yada yada
counterpoint:
NT: God is Love.
clincher:
1Corinthians 13--LOVE IS NOT JEALOUS
I rest my case.

this so bums me out.
i'm not a big johnny cash fan, but he was a cornerstone for the country music industry.. john ritter was a funny guy, i wiil always remember three's company.. they will both be missed.
what was surprising about Johnny Cash was that he died of complications from diabetes. He has been in the hospital every year for the last few with pneumonia and they said he had some kind of disease of the nervous system that caused the pneumonia(I have no clue what that could be)--and he was just released from the hospital from the pneumonia not that long ago---I didn't expect diabetes to kill him!
Makes me think maybe he neglected things out of grief.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Emmy award-winning actor John Ritter ( news ), who gained fame playing bumbling and lovable characters in a pair of television comedies decades apart, has died suddenly due to a previously undetected arterial problem, his representatives said on Friday.
|
Ritter, who was 54, collapsed on Thursday evening while filming "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," the ABC television comedy which had reinvigorated his career and was a centerpiece of the network's upcoming fall season.
The former star of "Three's Company" was taken to Providence St. Joseph hospital in Burbank, California, across from the studio where he had been working.
Surgeons at the hospital were unable to save him, and he died from a "dissection of the aorta," which results from an unrecognized flaw in a main artery from the heart, his publicists, Wolf-Kasteler & Associates Public Relations, said.
Ritter was best known for his portrayal of Jack Tripper in the 1970s situation comedy "Three's Company," which won him Emmy, Golden Globe and People's Choice awards.
A prolific actor, Ritter recently reconnected with television audiences as the star of "8 Simple Rules."
Ritter played Paul Hennessy in the family comedy about a father dealing with his precocious daughters which was one of the Walt Disney Co.-owned network's hits in the 2002 season.
"All of us at ABC, Touchstone Television and The Walt Disney Company are shocked and heartbroken at the terrible news of John's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children at this very difficult time," ABC said in a statement.
Born into a Hollywood family, John Ritter was the son of country singer and actor Tex Ritter ( news ) and graduated from Hollywood High School, where he was student body president.
He graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in drama and went on to act in film, television and on the stage.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Yasbeck ( news ) and their daughter, Stella and three children, Carly, Tyler and Jason, from his first marriage to Nancy Morgan.
