Maybe you should change the title of the thread to "would you kill indiscriminatly for your country because uncle sam said to?"
That's what I call "black and white"
and the answer to that would be a loud NO from me!

giving your sons or daughters to the "gods of war" .

It's not black and white.. Tetra stated earlier that he would not kill even to protect his family.. do you really agree with that, Newboy? If your country was invaded.. how would you protect your family? Would you consider joining forces with your neighbors to defend your town..your house? Would you shoot an invader who was killing your neighbor? That would be considered killing for your country.. or dying if they shot you first. War is not always comfortably far away.
Even dying for your country is less black and white that you might think. My husband joined the Navy when he was 19. Within a year he was so sick they pulled him off his ship. He was honorably discharged a year later. He didn't die, but he lost his life. He lives in excrutiating pain all day every day.. he is exhausted and tired of fighting.. it took 12 years to get VA to give him the benifits he deserves. The military made him sick.. he never even left American waters, so they can't blame it on someone else... This man is 33 years old and his life is over, has been for years, and he will die of his illness eventually.
Death is quick.. would you suffer years of torment for your country? If he could do it over.. I know my husband wouldn't.

i've been through "this is not nothing" more than i care to recount.
with my husband, they said that he was faking illness to get out of work.
long story short we found the right doctor and he was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma.
Having to deal with Dr.s on a regular basis due to my husbands illnesses I have to say that a second opinion is a valuable thing. Too often people take the word of their Dr., who is doing the best he/she can, but they aren't perfect, they make mistakes, they miss things.. and all too often they aren't up to date. Occasionally they are crooked and will over diagnose in order to qualify you for some insurance covered procedure you don't really need. Add to all this that you aren't usually thinking clearly when you go to the Dr. due to illness and stress. I always go with my hubby just for that reason.. he has "mental fogs" and will often forget symtoms or forget what questions he was going to ask.
Sounds like I'm preaching to the choir in your case, you already know all this... you have my sympathy.

6,741,444 publishers in 99,770 congregations.. .
1,059,325 peak publishers in the lower u.s. this is a 2.3% increase.. south korea has yet, again, to post a zero or negative growth, and this being the most internet/ wired country in the world.
publishers are up another 1%.
The Catholics had a bigger increase percentage wise than the witnesses
They baptise babys and count them in their numbers, even if they aren't practicing Catholics when they grow up. They JW's have to be of consenting age (supposedly) to get baptised or become a publisher. So it's really not surprising their numbers increase faster than JW's.

we had a discussion on this several months ago.
clyde is wanting to see a copy of the article back in the 20's?
i can't find it.
ROFLMAO!!! And I always thought the technilogical age was started by aliens!!! I never knew to attribute it to christ!
(Hubby says we should start calling Tesla "Christ" as he thinks Tesla is where it all began)
Facinating quotes, thank you!

to everyone i wish a very special holiday season and a thank-you to all for the kindness and help i have received from the folks on this board.
i had problems mentally dealing with family and health as well.. i am fine now and want to say thank-you to a few that have really helped in one way or another.. katiekitten, sparkplug (who really looks a lot like j lo) coco, chris and nina, warlock, outlaw (who always makes me laugh) mary, blondie and of course crazy bonde deb (who is sweet and not crazy) lol.
i love you all!.
Happy Holidays Hambeak!! Isn't it great to be able to say that I also relish saying "bless you" when someone sneezes I used to hate going shopping etc. this time of year.. having to say "thank you" every time someone says "merry chrismas" or "happy holidays" or worse, being with my mom or sister and having them go into the "we don't celebrate" speech just because someone said "are you ready for christmas"
I am now ready with the oppropriate response..or I say it first!!

i think it's hilarious that when you post facts there is still always someone arguing it.. makes you want to stop bothering if people don't want to learn.. but then again my family has only been in the truth for 100 years so what would i know?.
.
I agree that people on this board tend to over analyze things. They pick everything apart into little tiny pieces and examine each bit for truth or falsehood. I have seen some rediculous things examined at the minutest detail on this board. And many times people have delighted in exposing some truth (however minor... like whether or not some comedian actually said something that was attributed to him)
But, isn't that what this board is all about? We have all learned the hard way to question what we are told. The wts told us many many "facts" that were complete bs. Now that we know we were duped once, we have learned to examine everything and determine for ourselves whether or not something is "fact". If we go back to just nodding in agreement everytime someone says something is fact.. we might as well go back to being dubs.
I do think that sometimes people go a little overboard.. but some of them are new to this (thinking for themselves, that is) I know it took me a while to not care whether or not every little detail was correct.. sometimes it doesn't matter.
The very nature of this board is to question everything. If you post it.. it will be questioned.. and that's a Fact!!

taking the lead from another thread on this - i know a number of witnesses who were not vaccinated because of the jw scare - all kids of course, whose parents made the decision for them.
they are adults now, but none of them ever did get vacinnated - luckily they never got sick either.
i wonder - do you know of any witnesss that were not vaccinated and got sick?
I was vaccinated as a jw kid and still got sick. Whooping cough is NOT fun. Cracked a rib.
I think most people don't know enough about vaccinations to make an informed opinion on them. Dr. says they are ok, so they must be. The JW's aren't the only ones selling crap. If I had kids the decision to have them vaccinated would be really tough for me. I would have to do extensive research on each one before I consented.
(this is a little off topic, sorry)

i recently discovered firefly, and its follow up movie, serenity.. awsome show, cancelled in it first season.
(fox dopes!).
made a come back as a movie!.
We watched firefly when it aired on Fox. They repeatedly changed the night it was aired without advertising the fact, they ran very few ads for the show, and they showed the pilot last! And they canceled it because it wasn't getting many viewers. Hmmm.. could that be because no one knew about it? and the few that did could never figure out when it would be on?
There were a lot of people who saw the pilot and were anxious to see more, but, as they aired the pilot last, the show was already over.
I really hate fox.. I miss futurama.

one of my favourite movies of all time is rain man with t cruise and d hoffman, the scene when hoffman recites the 1st base dialogue from the abbot & costello film is priceless.
.
does any one know the full script from the scene and does it signify anything?.
My father loved this scetch and would recite parts of it (I think he had the whole thing memorized) and we would listen to a recording of it occasionally. I love this not just because it's funny as hell but also because it reminds me of my father.
To find a copy of it I googled "who's on first"
