SYN, you never cease to amaze me. Positively too, I might add.
When I look back...way back in my daze..er..days as a Dub, it's amazing what one can gain from ones own personal reflection. That reflection can be mirrored here on a daily basis. You see people beginning to open their minds, or question the Borg and its policies. You remember back to 'how you used to be' and you anxiously await your turn to contribute or share personal honest information with these newcomers/newbies on the forum.
Many times I have been stifled, annoyed beyond belief and frustrated to the point of tears when I think back to my days as a Dub.
The mind, yes, is a terrible thing to waste. Worse yet, to be manipulated and sacrificed to something as seemingly banal (in the beginning) as the WTBTS, only to be devoured and self-consumed by it, almost cannibalistic, with YOU being eaten alive from the inside out.
The anger occasionally expressed by some XJWs on this forum is understandable. Once we've opened the floodgates of freedom to infiltrate our minds, sometimes we feel so ashamed, embarrassed and filled with guilt because we allowed ourselves to be so easily manipulated and tricked. That we gave so much of our lives to this organization; OUR entire LIFE...period. And that we did all of it, with pure intent and devotion.
Now we're on the other side. Breaking away of course, is not necessarily easy at first, but it's gradual. As freedom and self-worth begin to re-establish themselves, we begin to shrug off the old Dubisms, progressing to living a 'freer' life, minus all the Orwellian rules and regurgitated tripe being sent down the pipe from Brooklyn.
SYN, I loved your post, and thoroughly enjoy your input here.
It is said that we 'should get over our JW involvement', but I say, when someone has been a JW the effects are life altering (mind altering) and long-lasting. We have to be there for those who are questioning and for those that need insight whether that be scriptural or otherwise. We need to be here so that we can encourage them to not lose the one most precious thing they have left: their minds.
If anyone remembers me from other forums, I can tell you right now, this forum has brought out the BEST in me. That speaks volumes.
Thank you SYN, and so many others, too numerous to name.
