Just a thought, but would some of you agree, that for most of them are connected by:
FEAR ?
.
is there any common thread that connects jw's together because as far i can see jw's come from all types of families, backgrounds , races and such.. in my congregation there were many types of people, although there were quite a few dpressives and others with mild mental diseases.but there is nothing i find in common through jehovahs witnesses except their belief in that religion.there must be some common personnality types in the organistation, maybe a few dominant reoccouring ones, but i would need a bigger picture to see that i suppose.. what are your thoughts?
Just a thought, but would some of you agree, that for most of them are connected by:
FEAR ?
there were times in my life when i wondered to myself "am i making a mistake by leaving "jehovah"?
" at this point i know i have no doubts because why would a loving god kill everyone on earth who isn't a witness and i don't think that the true religion of god would be delivered to a white man in america.
that's why i'm no longer a believer.
Welcome 'therealtruthsayer' , thanks for sharing.
This is the first step, and it will be interesting for you to see some of the other 'hidden truths' you were not allowed to see. Thankfully, you have been able leave the Borg. If you haven't already, reading back into some of the old postings on here, will really open your eyes. The stories and anecdotes from people who have been with the WTBTS for many years, will give you the real nitty-gritty on many topics.
As for me, I don't necessarily share the viewpoints of everyone on here, but respect it nonetheless.
With me, the concept of Jehovah and Jesus, doesn't resonate with me, period.
For some, it does. That's OK, for them.
But yeah, I used to think about what you stated regarding a so-called 'loving god killing off non-jws etc.' - that used to bug me, alot.
Not anymore. I'm not afraid of Armageddon, because I don't believe in it.
As for the dentist? Well....that's another story. Take care TRTS.
btw animal? enjoy your posts
i was just driving back from the store on a street where a young man was killed a few years back, as he was murdered right on the street i often think of this every time i drive back from the store.
his house was about 100 feet from where his body lie in the street and blocks from my house.. i actually feel safe where i live and do know where to go and not to in toronto but crime happens everywhere no matter where you are, you can live in the quietest neighbourhood and right next door the worst can and has happened.
do you know where to walk at night and where not too in your town?
I live in Toronto's eastend. It's a blue collar area, old homes (affordable mostly), and it's ethnically diverse and vibrant.
Crime? Well, there is some, but just the occasional BNE (Break and Enter). I feel safe here, despite some the cruddy spots here and there.
Generally, it's a friendly area, close to everything I could ever need, with 24 hour transit all around me. But of course, one has to be aware of their surroundings at any time.
As a side note. When I lived in a small town in Atlantic Canada, I had more encounters with hoodlams and rednecks.
as i recall, "the society" at one time taught the flood waters of noah's day came from an immense canopy of water, which formed sometime during creation and hovered above the earth until it all broke loose in the flood.
o.k., cool.
but does anyone know of an explanation of where it all went afterwards?
Hi folks, I think I know the answer.
All that water, it went to: CANADA
i always loved little animals, and i always will have one.
i noticed that most families do have pets.
for people living alone, a pet is a good companion.
Now let's not forget: Birds.
Sunshine, is a 4 year old female cockatiel. She is very lovable, eats with us when we have supper, and is a great watchbird. No joke! One night there was some commotion outside of the house; I didn't hear a thing. The bird's comb on her head was straight up and she was shrieking. I thought it was weird. THEN...we heard something, and sure enough raccoons were outside terrorizing the garbage bins and recycle containers.
Birds are great, not as noisy as people think. If you leave, they protest, because they love to be around people. They love human interaction and can be quite hilarious! She never bites, and loves to eat whatever HUMANS are eating. You can hold her, and she loves to have her head and neck scratched, which to a cockatiel, is heavenly bliss.
She has only layed one egg. Thankfully she's not laying more, as it's hard on their system, and we don't have a male, so the eggs are not fertilized.
Lots of fun, never a dull moment with 'the bird'. She is allowed to fly around the house, and she does get plenty of attention. When you come home, she's screeches her delight to see you. Just like how I've seen dogs do when their owners come home.
I'll have to post a photo of her eating spaghetti, it's quite hilarious!
Pets are great therapy, and excellent companions. They show unconditional love.
ah!
new light!
what dub worth his salt doesn't eagerly anticipate each district assembly or watchtower magazine to "glean" any "new light" that might be presented?
Yes, here we go again.
Recycling the old, reforming it, into a different shape and presenting it back to the followers as 'new light'.
It has to be one of the saddest most tragic observations after leaving the Borg. You can totally see it for what it truly is.
How many people were disfellowshipped for their questioning of some of the WTBTS doctrine? only later to find out, that the 'new light' then, is another discardeded burnt out light bulb.
We are baffled, if not wanting to ring up every CLUE PHONE out there, to call in some sense to some of these people. But, you know, we get it - they don't. Mind controlled, seldom penetrated, turns to mush. The ability to make decisions for oneself, becomes property of another.
I kick myself for ever having been part of that organization. Good thing is, somehow, I was able to break free.
New light? No thanks, I have candles that are far brighter.
we know thw jw congregations have concealed adult pedophiles.
recently, we have been made aware that jw congregations are concealing the youngest of pedophiles, even ages 4-8.. unfortunately, most of the children have been molested themselves by either another jw or an non-jw.
but the molested children themselves are now molesting other children, while they "play" alone together at private homes or even outside the kingdom halls at night after meetings.. the parents and grandparents of the children are aware of the inappropiate behavior of their own children.
Lady Lee, I agree with your comment.
The acting out of their own abuse (some of the abused), is one of the cardinal signs.
Another thing, is the pent up energy associated with sex in general within the organization. It seemed that anything affiliated with sex, especially towards younger people (adolescence), is bent on driving them stark raving mad. What a time to stiffle a young persons coming of age.
Masturbation was RULED OUT!! what could be a healthy outlet, was condemned and highly discouraged. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it a disfellowshipping offense?
Sad to say, that some of the behaviour of these younger people can be attributed to abuse at home or pent up sexual energy that is not allowed to be expressed under any circumstances.
Vicious cycle.
i'm sick of talking about george bush and iraq and war so.... what were you like in high school?.
i was an orchestra geek.
i played violin and took all the math classes i could.
Well, let's see. High school, that was over 2 decades ago.
What was I like? I was sort of a geek, but I used to be into music: rock, punk etc., and was really into radio DX'ing. When I moved from the small rural community was dying in, and moved to the city, I became alive, made friends (mostly worldly ones) and did really well in high school then.
I got picked on a lot, at the first junior high school to the first year of High School.
If any Canucks on here remember Rough Trade's: HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL - you damn well, it was NOT like that at all.
Coming into the J-Dubs as a teenage male, oh my goodness....you can imagine the struggles. What a time to become a dub.
I survived, somehow. This past summer I met up with 2 of my former school mates, first time in over 20 years: IT WAS GREAT!!! I had a blast!
i've been keeping track of how many new people have signed onto this forum for the past week and i'm amazed.
there have been about 50 new sign-ons during the past week.
wow!.
Honestly?
Well, in my opinion, I think why this site is doing well: diverse, comprehensive, FUN, not-fundie riddled (occasional troll), information sharing.
I know I am leaving out an item or two, but honestly, this has to be the first XJW site that I have visited, and have stayed, and enjoyed. I love the topics, and I like the general vibe of the site.
The sharing of information: experiences, WTBTS info, (yes, even scriptural stuff), has been most useful. It's kind of like going into the kitchen cupboard, there's something in there for everyone. This is my KD (Kraft Dinner) site. Enjoying it immensely.
Thanks to those whom have e-mailed me: that did not happen much before with other sites. Friendly vibe, gotta love it.
after reading the thread on portion sizes, it'd be interesting to see what folks spend weekly on their groceries.
one of my new year's resolutions was to improve my finances and groceries are coming under scrutiny.
i spend about 30 a week (now), but when i wasn't paying attention and stopping in all the time, i'll bet i was spending double that.. so, what do you spend?
Good question. I guess depending upon family size, children and where you live, makes a difference, and ones financial situation.
I spend, probably about $25 a week on groceries, and I do eat out 1 or 2 X per week.
Not all of us Canucks place beer/spirits on our grocery list, but occasionally I do. So it can be a bit more than the alotted $25 per week. Add $15-20 some weeks.
