Aztec, yeah, it'd be great to meet some people from the forum. It is always interesting to share experiences with people who can relate. Detroit, on a good day, is just under 4 hours away.

Well, I was not raised a JW. I am originally from Atlantic Canada. (Born in Ontario, but didn't stay there).
Started studying with the JWs in 1976. This was in New Brunswick (a Canadian province). I attended my first meeting in the fall of 1976.
1977, I really got into the organization. I went to my first assembly March 1977. I studied for a long time, and went out in service for the first time in September of 1979. I moved out of home (my family, non-believers) and into a nearby city, and finishing my high school there.
I was baptized in April 1981. Had some nagging doubts, but had my own personal issues to deal with as well. Yet, I somehow hung in there. I nearly left the organization in the late fall of 1981.
Fall of 1982, I move to northern New Brunswick. I attend a rural based congregation. I did plenty of auxiliary pioneering there.
Eventually, I left eastern Canada and moved to Toronto (where I am today). I attended a congregation in western Toronto (Etobicoke/Mississauga area). This was 1983.
I auxiliary pioneered there during the fall of 1983. This is when I was readying myself to leave the organization. I became inactive, stopped going to meetings and almost disappeared off the JW radar map.
Spring 1984 (April/May), I met with the elders about 'my reason to leave'. I'll assume I am DF'd.
Almost 19 years later, here I am. Today I work in the hospitality industry, or better known as a bartender/waiter person. I am 40, and doing pretty damn good. Enjoying my life. Have great friends, and have had many great opportunities to travel worldwide.
This is a rough sketch, but I wouldn't want to bore the pants off of anybody.

SUNDAYS - I work until about 4 or 5 a.m. from Saturday night into Sunday. I have been sleeping in on Sundays now for almost 19 years, and today...I am going to SLEEP through the entire day. Miss meetings and well...everything else .
Oh my, it's 6 p.m., time to hit the tavern.
doubtless many of us have been to assemblies, and every may the km would come out with an insert about what you were expected to do and how to act.. reviewing the km's over the years , you can see the negative positve "councel".

You know, the last assembly/convention I was at was in 1983 in Portland, Maine. You know, even back then, the same things were mentioned over and over and over again.
It seemed no matter what: you were always bad
It's sort of like: PLAY - Rewind - PLAY over and over again and again.
I think I'll skip the next convention. Heaven knows the pools will be riddled with bad JW kids; rooms filled with the aroma of bacon wafting down the hallways; inappropriately behaved or dressed brothers and sisters....perish the thought.

Well, I wasn't particularly looking for anything formal, and I expect, one would run into all kinds, depending upon their time away from the organization, and of course, what affect it had upon them too. Some behaviours and attitudes, even with some XJWS can be a bit hard to digest, but...that's to be expected.
It'd be simply nice to meet people, 'hi, how are you, I'm Rayzorblade...and you are?' - that kind of thing.

My shoes lasted a long time.
mine was at the kh giving a talk - got muddled up and almost said the f word into the mike.
in fact - i said it in my mind or under my breath and then panicked because i thought i had said it out loud but the audience didn't seem to react so i new i must have not said it out loud.
i wonder if anyone noticed me breaking into a cold sweat........... anyone got any more?
Does anyone remember those sort of shiny polyester pants? OK, remember that they were sown right up the back, as in...well you know.
I remember I had a pair of these pants, and as a late teen, still growing here and there, I hadn't put these pants on in a long time.
Well, I get to the meeting, and I think I was bending over to pick something up, and all you could hear was: ** RRRiiiPPP** . Yes, and anyone within earshot, could hear it. I was as red as a beet. I literally ripped my pants from behind my crotch to half way up my ass.
One sister (older one) was quite funny, and she came over and gave me her sweater to place behind my chair. She winked at me and giggled, and I did too. But I waited to go to the washroom during the study, so as to not draw attention to the extra air conditioning I was getting from behind.

i was never a pioneer, so i don't know.
i am just guessing from the ones i knew, and by their actions.
the posting a little while ago about pioneers who were on welfare made me think of this.. i wonder how many pioneered simply for the social aspect of it, compared to how many really felt it in their heart.. here is an example to think about.

I Auxiliary Pioneered several times, and I did so because I felt it was the right thing to do. No, I did not like it, but still persevered hoping some enlightenment would come my way.
Social aspects of it, well...I don't recall any particular perks or benefits on a social scale as far as with members of the congregations I was with. I did have some fun times with some real kooky JWs (as in, they were hilarious, and had a sense of humour). Most of the time I did it, because I felt it was the right thing to do.
I was not raised a JW. Studied when I was 13/14 years of age. I think I started auxiliary pioneering when I was 19. I did it probably for about half a year off and on.
