We had a watermain break here last week in the business district. flooded three basements. If we don't get snow we're going to be in big trouble. We need the snow for insulation, let alone some winter activities.

I get stuck behind this old guy and his wife at a red light. (like what are geriatrics doing out this early in the morning) The red light turns green, I wait patiently behind them, he's not moving, about 10 seconds later I honk the horn, which ends up getting stuck in that position, well how embarrassing is that. So now I'm driving down the road with the horn blaring, naturally bringing attention to myself. I was finally able to make it stop.
And that's how cold it was up here.

quote search: recognize His people by their love
by Jacqueline ini am desperately searching fo rthe bible qoute which tells you that you shall recognize his people by the love amongst themselves.. i have not found any love amongst any witnesses in our hall, never ever...and we have attended this hall for nearly 2 years.
i am still a study, my hubby grew up in the truth.
elders are coming over tomorrow night to discuss our lack of meeting attendance.

Jacqueline.
Please also remember that their love is conditional. They will love you only if you do what is expected of you. If you fall short in any way that's when they start to grow cool. I'm sure everyone here will agree that love should not be with conditions. Love is shown by people who accept you for what you are and do.
Let us know how it works out.

Strangest thing you were called on the carpet for.
by Icansaylucky ini would like to hear some of the strangest or most ridiculous thing you got in trouble with the elders for.
here is mine.. back in the early 70's i was married at the age of 18, typical witness thing to do.
my husband who was 6 years older than i ruled me like a overly strict father.

your comment caught my eye. I had to LOL.
they were the standard 2 inches above the knee or below
It reminded me of an incident when I was around 11. I was to be a householder for the first time that Tuesday evening. I was excited to say the lease, that I was going to be on stage. So I got dressed up very nicely, (my mom was the matronly one that always dressed me prim and proper). So naturally everything was in order. NOT. To my dismay, the head honcho elder, prior to the meeting pulled me aside, and told me that I could not be a householder that evening because my skirt was too short. Brother, it was just above my knee, not even two inches (I'm sure 2 inches would have been considered mini) and it was a flair skirt, so once I sat down it would cover both my knees and my legs. Needless to say I was very disappointed, my mom was furious.
That's my experience

Do we come here to "convince" ourselves?
by bittersweet in.
ok...so the other day my husband(he is still an active witness) starts questioning me about why i come to x-jw sites.. he said the reason people come to these types of sites,is to convince themselves that they made the right decision to leave the"truth".i told him i come here to get support from others who feel they were tricked into believing something that wasn't true.he knows i feel my life has been taken away from me because i wasted so many years following their doctrines.i told him it helps me to know i am not alone in my feelings.he is still convinced that people are afraid they are wrong, and just come here to keep finding reasons to stay away from the "truth".he doesn't understand that we know what the real truth is.. i was just curious what everyone else thought about this.do you feel we are "convincing" ourselves that we made the right decision to leave?

calamityjane
I didn't need the convincing that leaving was the right thing to do. But since I've been on the board, it has given me a firmer resolve, within myself, to hold my head up anytime I do see a dub and say to myself you are no better than me. I've always found with some dubs I've seen while shopping they look at me like I'm no good, I hate that.
So the board has given me greater confidence and some kick ass attitude.
Thank you everybody.

confused and disfellowshipped
by daddysgirl inhello, ive been disfellowshipped for being with my boyfriend who is a witness also, i'm sad and dont know what to do now, so ive been looking around for answers, and found this site.
i don't want to go back because the people i thought i loved, the fellow brothers and sisters , didnt seem to care when i was having problems, and i wondered where the "love" was in the organization.
so there is my problem.

calamityjane
Welcome daddysgirl. I too was once in your place. I was df'd and my boyfriend was just publicly reproved. I remember the meetings with the elders very vividly, all they wanted to know was the details, how many times, where? A bunch of perverts if you ask me. I felt so cut off. Anyway I did get reinstated eventually, my boyfriend was still there. We picked up where we left off, got married, have three children, and found out we no longer could accept the jw teachings and walked away in 1995.
We know how you feel, and you have come to the right place to find answers and comfort.
Welcome abroad.
