I begin piano lessons this month! YAHOO! I've always wanted to have music lessons all my live-long life but never could because of the guilt that the money and the time could be spent in "kingdom interests." This is one of the first things I've done for me since we've made our exit.

we cannot quote or refer to anything outside of all this.

Thank you so much for your replies so far. Yes! I will certainly let you know how it all goes. :) I am going to work on posting my biography soon. I think you'll find it very enlightening, and for you that still have family and friends trapped in the Org, you may find it hopeful! Do any of you know my Aunt and Uncle in Indianapolis? They have become a huge support to us over the past two weeks. I got in touch with them and now know they have been so instrumental in helping many JW's escape. They attend conventions and have even marched in New York. Don't know if I should give their names on this board, but ah well... First initials are F (him) & B (her) and the last name is Singleton. If I understood her correctly, some of you may have even been guests in their home (Randy Watters for one). Anyway, I'm more closely linked to ya'll than I realized! :) I am becoming less and less afraid (remember my scaredyetresolved screename at first?!), so I'll be coming out more and more over the next couple weeks.
Keep sending the suggestions on how to help hubby's parents. I called him and let him know I posted and what the replies have been so far. We can't thank you enough for your help!

Who has a March 15th mag so they can tell me...
by truthseekers2 in...what lesson my husband's mom is wanting to mail to us?
she emailed today and said she wanted to ask if we are still getting any watchtowers in the mail or if someone brings them to us because in the march 15th magazine is a very good lesson she wishes we would read.
i'm just wondering if someone has the mag and can tell us what lesson she is talking about.

Oh gosh, that would be what she is pointing to...
"The study articles seem to be about being patient if we have questions that don't seem to be answered....to wait on Jehovah and not drift away. Quote: ' When Jehovah provides direction by means of his Word, his spirit,and his earthly organization, let us listen carefully. If we do so, Jehovah will bless us....'"
Thanks so much. I'll see if the website has this article even though I will be rolling my eyes while reading it. {sigh}

Hubby and I have felt like we are on information overload. We've gone through a traumatic time with my family. We've been left feeling mentally and emotionally drained. Hubby said the other night in bed, "Who knew it would be so difficult to leave?! We couldn't just make a decision and then move on in life. It's really taking it's toll!" He is right. I can't begin to tell you how we've been feeling. I would imagine it has to be something like PTSD!
Anyway, here we have his family open to a discussion and we haven't been able to muster up any energy or brain-power to write them and begin presenting the issues to them as to why we've left. All the inconsistencies we've witnessed in the Watchtower teachings after we went back and read through all the old literature. We left due to the "new understanding" of the word "generation", the 1975 info, the Beth Sarim stuff, the old light/new light/old light issues on so many things (organ transplants, rape, Sodom and Gomorrah), and the issue of whether the Org claims it's a true prophet or not and the scriptures in Deut.
So, where would you begin? What information do you think might be the smartest place to start in trying to make them begin seeing the TRUTH? I am going to ask, can hubby and I please turn to you for help with all this? We feel so overwhelmed! TIA!

What to do when your family DOESN'T shun you...
by logansrun inall right, i'm not dfd or dad; i just "walked away.
" all my friends, save one, completely ignore me and basically shun me (the word on the street is i'm an apostate :) ).
but my family, all hard-core jws except my more liberal mother, is causing some unsettling feelings.

Bradley, You are having the exact same feelings that my husband and I are going through right now. Either one of us could have written your post. Both of our families are 4 generations of "spiritual giants." Part of us wants to just write our letter and get it all over with...but the other part of us will miss some of the relationships we still have with family that are void of the WT propagana. Since our families are who they are though, the majority of any conversation is saturated with "theocracy." Fortunately, my side of the family has begun shunning us, but my husband's side is still clinging to the hope that we will "come to our senses." We are taking what LB says to heart and are realizing that feelings can change and there is no rush. The letter will be ultimately final and there's no need to rush into writing it right now. There's always time. I hope you come to a decision that you are comfortable with for yourself! {{{hugs!}}} (BTW, really enjoyed reading your post of introduction...welcome! I'm fairly new here myself and haven't posted my story yet. It's a doozy!)

I would have to say I am most passionate about my husband (love AND sex ). Spending time with him, being close, enjoying one another...we have an awesome relationship. The other thing I am passionate about are our children. I want them to be happy and have the very best in life that I can possibly give them.

"The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance,against such is no law. Did you have all these when you were a witness?"
Did I have all the fruits of God's spirit when I was a witness? They were actually my very favorite personal study topic. What the quality is of each one and how I could work on developing them.
LOVE - This is probably the one that I have always had the most of.
JOY - Not as a witness, no. I was robbed on a regular basis of any joy I might have possibly mustered up. This is the one thing I am looking so forward to experiencing in the very near future. How I hope I can finally experience JOY!
PEACE - Not as a witness, no. LONGED for this desperately and hope it's coming to me SOON!
LONG-SUFFERING - Majorly always had this. That's how I stayed in the Borg for so long for my husband and my children while experiencing and witnessing atrocities.
KINDESS - For sure have always had this fruit. I think it always went hand-in-hand with my heart full of love.
GOODNESS - Love, kindness, goodness...again I think all went hand-in-hand for me.
FAITH - As a witness, no. Longed for it, reached out for it, tried to fake it, but always knew in my heart it was alluding me.
MILDNESS - Unfortunately this Irish girl has a big problem when it comes to mildness and self-control. hehehe
SELF-CONTROL - Only when I'm taking my meds faithfully. {big grin}

When I married my husband back in '86 and moved to his congregation, it wasn't long after I was there that one of the most dynamic elders was df'd for molesting his children as they were growing up. It was horrible as one of the daughters was a close friend. As the years went by, the once-elder was reinstated and then became a regular pioneer. It was so difficult to see him once again giving talks from the platform and especially going out in the ministry every single day. What was worse is that his privacy was to be respected. Even though my husband and I knew what he was df'd for, most of the congregation did not, including the other pioneers. When my husband's mother took my daughter in service one day and I found out that this man took my daughter and her best friend someplace while her grandmother went on a Bible study, I went ballistic!!! Still, we had to keep his reputation in tact...I just put my foot down and said never again would my daughter go in service without us and came out looking like an idiot. Whatever! Later, his pioneer priviledges were taken away (more "new light"?) and finally once the Dateline program aired, word leaked about him and his past (from what source in the cong, we have no idea). Several in the congregation were having a really hard time with it, one mother in particular. She now realizes her little girl, from the age of 2-4, has been left alone in the car with this man on many, many occasions while she was at the door in field service. How on earth could the brothers allow this to happen??? I have been sickened over it for so many years. It's no wonder these perverts have ample opportunity considering the ministry work. Another situation I know of first-hand is the brother-in-law of my brother-in-law grew up molesting all sorts of young sisters in his family and congregation, including my husband's niece. When he was found out, he was serving as a servant in the congregation and progressing toward elder. Thankfully my husband's family pressed charges and this man has been to court, sentenced, and served time. He is now re-married with new small children of his own...and he molested his own son before. He is also reinstated and attending another JW congregation. Who knows if all the publishers have been warned of his past history so they can protect their children.
If the JW's want to continue to exist and control their flock, they need to at least come up with some way to protect innocent members from these predators that exist among them!!!!!! Talk about true wolves in sheep's clothing.
