Lets put Saddam on trial...
by Elsewhere in... but we better not let anyone see the trial or the testimony because they will find out about all the business we had with him!.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/world/meast/12/29/sprj.irq.main/index.htmlallawi is quoted saying, "saddam hussein's trial would not be public since he could name countries and persons whom he gave money.
yeah, it looks like a lot of people got their hands dirty on this one!

And I don't think WE should put Saddam on trial. He should be tried by the Iraqi people, just like Nicolai C. and Benito M. were punished by their people.
He's not a US citizen nor resident nor even somebody that commited a crime in the US.

Why? As others have stated, Saddam is quite capable of airing dirty laundry. Lest we forget Hussein was a United States ALLY who was supplied by the US government in the 1980's during the Iran-Iraq war.
Much like Osama bin Laden and the Afghani mujahdeen were supported and supplied by the United States during the war against the Russians.
Oh what a tangled web we weave...
Saddam wasn't really a "friend" more than a lesser enemy of the US, much like Bin Laden and much like the Pakistani general. In fact, the whole idea of US involvement in the Iran-Iraq war wasn't to help Saddam win, but rather induce a stalemate where both countries beat the living shit out of eachother. And Bin Laden was no friend of the US at that time either. The US was fighting an idealogical war with not one, but 2 blocs at that time. The Islamic bloc and the Communist bloc, and the Communist bloc at the time was more of a threat than the Islamic bloc. So of course the US would choose a lesser enemy in a situation like that. Wouldn't anybody?

WHAT'S NEXT AFTER "REFINEMENT"?
by fearnotruth22 infor years the wts has been focusing on being more efficient, refinement, etc.
that is why many departments in the wts have merged, others eliminated.
the lates gossip from betthel a couple of years ago was that bethel was downsizing and many bethelite would be sned home and those leaving would not be repalced, also the sale of wt property, the printibg of literaure overseas normally done here and more prining done upsate ny would seem to indicate a move out of brooklyn, to patterson.

Might be because of impending tax reasons.

What would you consider to be 'Victory over the Watchtower'?
by nicolaou ini'm not talking about a victory which might include welcome reforms on blood policy, shunning or the handling of abuse allegations.
what i want to know is what we would consider to be the victory.. it is unlikey in the extreme that the various corporations of the watchtower empire will ever be closed down so, realistically what can we hope for in the long term?
say 30 - 50 years?.

Yes they are. And actually, as of 2002 (I think), they're not even known as the RLDS, they're now known as the Community of Christ. They want to get as far away from the name "LDS" as possible.
And they're undergoing alot of changes. They're de-emphasising the book of Mormon in their church and becomming more like mainstream liberal Christianity.

JW Put-Downs & Suitable Ripostes.
by Englishman inhaving been "out" for many years and also having family that has been "in" for just as many, it occurs to me that i hear the same tired old dub put-downs with monotous regularity.. these include:.
"giving up smoking is easy for new witnesses.
they get special help from jehovah, you see.".

You're rejecting Jehovah!
Re: If Jehovah's doctrinally conflicting and secretive, then of course I'll reject him. Any smart person would reject a god that's doctrinally conflicting.
Are you sure you're happy being away and is this right for you?
Re: The only time I'm not happy is when I talk to JW's.
You're too smart not to be a witness!
Re: Then why Is it that most of my XJW friends are college grads or are in college, while most of the JW's I know work at Wal-Mart? Re2: Then why isn't Stephen Hawking a witness? Re3: If I'm this smart and I'm not a witness, it might tell you something. Re4: Then why is it the more I learn, the more I see the circular reasoning in the JW's?
That's not in the bible (In response to an extra-biblical argument against the bible.)
Re: Yeah, so according to your logic, housecat's don't exist, because they're not mentioned in the bible either. Neither does anywhere outside of the Medditerranian.
Your life isn't going to be good without Jehovah
Re: Hey, it worked for Eisenhower.
Who else teaches these truths?
Re: William Miller, before he was discredited.

When I told my mom about this, she said the most ironic thing. She said "These people are blaspheming the name of Jehovah with their capitalistic exploitation."
I didn't even say anything.

I consider victory over the Watchtower as being completely independent of any and all people remotely involved with the WT.
Victory over the JW's would't be it's total disbanding. Major cults don't disband in that manner. It's usually a very slow process. The cult will collapse on it's own like the Millerites or undergo a serious Glastnost like the RLDS. From how everything is shaping up for them, they're clearly not going to survive as they are.
Rather, our being here is a part of victory over the WT, the fact that we're free of their psychological control and how they have one less educated person to control. In a way, we're leading to the WT's eventual dissolving or Glastnost.
