did wt shut doors 9/11?
by topanga inis it true because all of those tunnels dinning rooms factories and supermarkets could be of great help to the community in a time of attack.

This is getting awfully boring truth. Just like a midweek meeting or book study.
The wtbts had every opportunity to shine like the sun or like the yellow facade on there building on 9/11 and post attack.
But the fact is that they did not rise to the occassion like the other christian churches, jewishs synagogues, as well as the other organizations that provided round the clock effort and relief for the workers at ground zero.
This recovery and relief effort went on for 24 hours a day 7 days a week non stop for more than 30 days. These organizations such as the Red Cross, Catholic church established posts directly on the site. They offered water, masks, a place to rest, spiritual guidance for the overwhelmed laborers.
As well as Trinity Church that maintained its doors open during this entire time so that anyone who need to come in and rest could do so. I just love that little pre revolutionary church that withstood the blast directly accross the street from the wtc and is still standing today very proudly with loving christian arms extented.
These laborers consisted of heavy machine operators, body sniffing dogs, fire fighters, sanitation workers, police officers, emergency medical services, clergy, national guards doctors, vets, nurses.
The wtbts offered a band aid to the ruptured artery of the city of new york. They did not establish themselves on the front lines. They were not a force present in spite of the fact that they had vast amount of resources and man power at their disposal. This affluent organization could have easily afforded more.

Questions Directed Towards: YOU (ex-JW)
by RAYZORBLADE ini thought i'd give this a go, lighten up the forum a little.
just curious, about a few things regarding all of us who participate on here.
i have some questions, of which i will answer also.

Ok I'm going to take a crack at this.
How long were you a jw? 18 years
Were you raised in it or became one later on in life? born one
Were you contacted via the door to door ministry? no
Initially, what intrigued or drew you to the JW's then? I slowly fell in love with the teaching of the bible, christ and jehovah.
When were you baptized? Or if you weren't. The golden rule in my family was no baptism until the age of 18 for all of us. I left and was never baptized. This one for me was always riddled with guilt and sadness.
When did you start having doubts?* After my mothers disfellowshipment. She was made to carry her own cross and then was crucified on it. This was devastating to my family.
What else perhaps contributed to your leaving? The divisions between my immediate family caused by the wtbts dogma. The seperation between my sister, brother, mother, myself were intolerable for me. I decided that if everlasting life consisted of sorrow and division amongst love ones then they can keep it. And on that same token they could shove it up their asses because I wanted no part of it.
When were you disfellowshipped/disassociated? 1980
Have you ever been reinstated? no
Did you ever attempt to contact or have spoken with other active-jw when you were DF?DA? no
Have you ever protested/picketted a jw assembly/convention? no
Do you miss being a JW? no
Do you still have family that are active JW's? Yes, sister, niece, nephew, aunt, grandmother.
Do you believe in god? Yes
Are you politically active or have voted? Yes, the 3rd thing I did after walking away was to register and vote.
Would you say you have become more tolerant or open-minded genereally speaking since you left? No, I was always tolerant and I have always been a free thinker.
Do you think the WTBTS will crumble? No, nore do I care if they do.
If you could say anything to the WTBTS and be listened to what would you like to say? You must adhere to scripture not dogma. You must change your policy on family and on shunning. These practices and teachings are detrimental to our society as a whole.
What has helped you cope, post-jw? The faith in myself.
Anything else you'd like to say/add? This excercise was draining.
*I would like to add a little more history to #6. In my haste in answering these questions I failed to elaborate on my mothers crime. I focused on the punishement and grief only. My mother purchased a lottery ticket and won $5,000. This was her offense and the reason she was DF. Looking back in hindsight this reasoning borders on the ridiculous to the insane. But then again it doesn't surprise me since the elders conducting this tribunal were Moe, Larry, Curly.*
I'm not sure if this edit will work.

They Finally Did It
by kelpie inmy parents have finally disowned me.. my dad called yesturday and told me to get the "dogs of my mothers back" about my upcoming wedding.. i told him that i havent put anyone on mum's back and if they are saying it, its because they want to and don't agree with what he and mum are doing.
i said that mum can speak for herself and he said that she and will and the next time you speak to your mother she will tell you that we dont want to ever speak to or see you again...".
at this point in the conversation i hung up the phone in his ear.

Kelpie,
My sister in law was treated similarly like this by her staunch jw parents. She suffered tremendously as well as my niece and nephew. They grew up without the love and support of their maternal grandparents.
We taught these youngster who are now 23 & 18 to love without condition by example. Their grandparents today are amazed at how fantastic their grandchildren turn out. The truth of it is that they were never a part of this. That is a tough reality check that they have to live with every day of their lives.
I hope your family realize what's at stake here. I'm sorry to here your feeling hurt by their choice. I wish peace for you and your family. And I'm glad your back.

Lessons of the FOOL
by manon inthings are not always as they appear!
usually when we think "fool" we imagine a simpleton, someone who is out of touch with reality or an object of social ridicule.
the common celebration of april fools day is a reflection of this attitude--we pull pranks and try to make our friends look silly--just for fun.

Thanks Jo & Goofy for posting on this thread. I couldn't agree more with both of you. Yes, it perfectly ok to be a little foolish now a days.
As for the fool portrayed in literature what comes to mind for me is the movie RAN which is a fabulous adaptation of King Lear with an asian twist.
The palace idiot plays his role well but yet he is the most loyal & wisest subject in the land. The king trusts and loves him. Everyone knows the saying, "he who has the kings ear rules the kingdom". So the fool is no fool. Another example of the fool at work is I,Claudius.
