Well!
That was quite a post. Powerful stuff!! I admire your conviction Focus.
among some wonderful material from elsewhere, http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=42268&site=3 asks where lies the exact center (of wickedness).. exact center?
per the current jw "encyclopedia", "insight on the scriptures" volume 1 p296 states:.
"bethel .. became renowned as a center of false worship".

why is it that jw`s get `hooked` into the latest multi-level marketing ploys
Detective:
My fault, in my earlier post that you so much enjoyed picking apart, I forgot to mention that I was speaking of legit MLM opportunities. Anyone who does a littlle "detective" work, before jumping into something, should be able to find a good honest opportunity.
When I said :
I also have a great deal of respect for those who try MLM only to fail, but realize that it wasn't for them, or know that they didn't aquire the skills to succeed.
I meant, that I respect someone who has tried a legit MLM, and failed at it, but can see past their own ego and realize that they didn't have what it takes. Instead of going on to blame everyone and every thing else for their failure, like so many people love to do. Sure, sometimes a person's failure is out of their control. But a majority of the time it is their fault. There are many reasons people can, and will fail at MLM.
1. The person gets in with a false understanding of what it takes to become successful. Sure, the people they are dealing with can promise "easy money" or "overnight riches." And those are the people that one should stay away from. If you buy too much in to these promises, you deserve to fail. Success requires hard work, I don't care which industry you are in. Many people will give up too soon, or get into a ton of debt investing in all the wrong things to grow their business. Live and learn. Some people will never make it no matter how hard they try. They could spend thousands of dollars on leads, and advertising.....but if they don't have the communication or people skills, they won't get very far. Or perhaps they get people in just fine, and sell product just fine.......but don't know how to create duplication, and suddenly it all falls apart, because they weren't good trainers or promoters.
2. Some good, honest, legit MLM's will go out of business. Even if you do make a good choice, sometimes it just isn't going to work. This happens in every industry as well, not just MLM. WorldCom, Enron, United Airlines, etc. Nothing is foolproof..........ever!
3. Of course there are many other reasons one could fail, but most of them are trivial, and can be avoided before ever treading on MLM grounds..
Bottom line: Investigate, poke, prod, question, research, evaluate, and make smart, well-informed decisions. After all, it is YOUR business, and you will be responsible for your future in that business.

i am fairly new to the san diego area.
being part of a large, well known jw family, my dfing was very difficult to deal with.
i was dfed about 2 years ago, and i am still having serious problems with the family.
Thanks for posting guys, keep it going.
You probably haven't heard of my family, they are big in the North West (Eastern Washington).
Also, I would really enjoy meeting with some of you. Someone should think of something fun (like that's hard in San Diego) for us all to get together and do. I'm totally for it. Just post some ideas here, and we'll also start exchanging some email. Maybe we can all get together sometime at the beginning of the new year. 1st week of Jan. maybe??

Amen Brother!!
I couldn't agree more.
It is the JW way to judge others, and find ways to make themselves sound better than the other guy. I respect anyone who has done MLM, stuck with it, and made decent money. I also have a great deal of respect for those who try MLM only to fail, but realize that it wasn't for them, or know that they didn't aquire the skills to succeed. But anyone who bashes MLM just because they failed, or they know someone who failed, or because they don't have the knowledge to make a fair judgment..............is absolutely ridiculous. MLM has stood the test of time, just like any other successful business. I suggest that people should not go out of their way to make ill informed statements, because in the end they are the ones who look dumb.
As far as why a JW would be attracted to MLM? Because many companies, especially the ones spoken of earlier in the post, use very similar techniques to keep people in the business, who are going to eventually fail anyway. Emotional meetings, scare tactics, the "take away" effect. All of which the typical JW is used to in their every day life, so obviously it appeals to them. People like to hang out and do business with like minded people. But true, honest, and seasoned MLM distributors do not build their business this way. Because they know if they do, they will be spending a majority of their time "babysitting" a bunch of people that will never make it. It's always better to find that 1 person that is willing to do what it takes to be successful, rather than finding 100 people that will sit there looking for a free ride and complain when they don't get it.
Anyway, that's my 10cents, my 2 cents is free.

I was DFed about 2 years ago, and I am still having serious problems with the family. I would enjoy meeting some local people who are in similar situations. Especially the younger crowd, 18 - 30 or so. Maybe we could schedule a San Diego EX - JW Meet. Please post here if you are from the area, and feel free to email me. Let's see how many we can get from the area on this post, so other San Diegans can refer to it. Thanks everyone, look forward to hearing from all of you.
