We had snow in Las Vegas on 12/31/03! First time in about 7 yrs or more - it was gone by noon, like it usually is here. It was nice except I was too sick to enjoy it - did get a picture of it though.
Years ago, about 1975, it snowed on Sunday and I got the kids up early so they could play in it before we went to the KH, because I figured it would be gone by the time we got out. Wrong! It stayed on the ground for nearly 2 weeks, so the kids got to enjoy it for more than just 1 hour.

welcome to the continent of north america.. within this continent, which includes also the carribbean islands, and central america, it's not one (1) country, but a collection of different countries.. i have noticed, quite a bit actually, with our friends from across the pond (atlantic ocean), especially those that reside in great britain/united kingdom, yes even the republic of ireland, of their generalities with regards to the term: america.. heaven forbid, i would guess if you lumped all brits in with europe/europeans.
wrong.. my experience has been that, most brits consider anything over this way.....the other side of the atlantic as: america.
thus to other nationalities within north america: that means: the u.s.a.. to a north american: when you say "america" it means: the united states of america.
Love my Hunt's "Chili Beans" 'cause they're already seasoned. Hunt's "Small Red Beans" will do in a pinch, but you have to add extra seasoning!

one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.
they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.
i was once counselled for joking around too much.
Hm-m-m-m, let me see -
I was timid, and kept a fairly low profile, so I received little direct criticism counsel, but I remember the PO's wife counseling me to take my 1 yr old outside, instead of to the restroom, because they could hear her crying in the hall (my daughter had better sense than I did!)
I was delighted when long skirts first came out, since we seemed to receive weekly theocratic(tm) counsel from the platform on our skirts being too short (what were we supposed to do - it was all you could buy) - then we got counseled that long skirts were faddish! Make up your mind!
I had an unbelieving husband and worked full time, so I had asked another brother to study with my son. Well, one week my son told me that Bro X couldn't study with him anymore, he didn't know why. When I call Bro X, he told me that one of the elders(tm) had told him he couldn't conduct the study because it was my Jehover given responsility to do it. I called Bro Elder and asked him if he preferred that my son got no study, as I was unable to study with him and do everything else (work full time, attend 5 meetings a week, get 10 hrs in service, work full time, keep house, ad infinitum) and he promptly backed off. Another glowing example of Matt 18.

it's easy to see why the lyrics appealed to me at a time when i was subconsciously trying to free myself from the mind control.. i know that i was born and i know that i?ll die.. the in between is mine.. i am mine.. .... we?re different behind the eyes, there?s no need to hide .

When I finally left the bOrg, you had to believe EVERYTHING they said or you could be disfellowshipped for apostasy. If you had any doubts, questions or disagreements, you had better keep them to yourself. When I first joined, in 1970, you could speculate on things that were not cast in stone, but when I was getting ready to check-out, even thinking about possibilities was forbidden and you could be publicly reproved for talking about such things.

i've been following a thread on another forum where jw's are insisting that it is ok for them to go inside churches for weddings, funerals, etc.
they say it's quite ok to go inside any church just as long as they don't participate in the service by singing, praying, kneeling...etc...some of them say that they have seen "guest speakers" in churches who came as watchtower representatives.
when did this ever change?

I was always told attending a wedding or funeral was a matter of conscience as long as you didn't participate, so I did and was never struck dead by Jehovah.
When my non-jw mother died, I had her service at the funeral home conducted by the Episcopal priest of the church she attended. Since she was a devout Episcopalian, and totally opposed to the WT, I just couldn't bring myself to have a JW do the funeral, besides, she was well known by the priest. The priest was well aware that I was a dub, and he did a very nice job. Now that I'm out, I'm really glad I did it that way.
i heard some time ago that have never been any district conventions in las vegas........anyone know for sure?
there must at least be circuit assemblies ........... if this is true........where do all these ones have to go for a district convention?........

well, after a 15 month absence from the kingdom hall, i once again found myself in the biggest kingdom hall of all the district convention.
as in previous years, the material presented was dull and repetitious, so once again, i was forced to provide my own entertainment.

the feb.1st watchtower mentions that just as a pregnant woman over 9 months gradually has signs of a baby's growth in the womb, so too, we may have a fulfillment of bible prophecy without knowing it fully beforehand until the effects and results become obvious.

All of you are wa-a-a-y better than I am. I tried to read the article, but by para 2 I was ready to tear my hair out. I have always enjoyed reading, but even when I was a dub the WT would either put me to sleep, or leave me totally frustrated (now I know why I was frustrated - cognitive dissonance!) So, I will just read your comments and marvel that people can swallow this garbage.
