So sorry to hear of your friend's illness. My mother died of colon cancer. She refused surgery because of the blood issue and firmly believed that armageddon was about to happen any moment. That was back in 1968 and she was 57 years old. What a waste of human life. I hope your friend sought and received treatment early-on and will have a good recovery.

Colon Cancer Treatment
by ExpandedMind inyesterday i found out that my best friend has colon cancer.
they removed what they could of the tumor, during the colonoscopy, but my friend now needs to wait another 8 days until the inflamation goes down until an ultrasound can be done to see how much remains and also to check to see if the lymph nodes are enlarged.
she knows that she will need to have surgery to remove the section of intestine that has the cancer, but they don't yet know what "stage" it is at.

Catholics Superior to Watchtower?!
by metatron inso, the catholic church is using sleaze ball lawyers to try to weasel out of child molester lawsuits.. (they were asking for it/blame the victim defense).
on the other hand, liberty magazine (jan/feb 2003) says "to it's credit, the catholic church appears to have cooperated.
in mediation, when possible".

Amen, Metatron. More lawsuits, more publicity, more media exposure. Wreck the WTS!

Spring and Mosquitoes
by Undecided inare any of you concerned about the nile disease and mosquiteos?
i love to sit in my back yard in the spring and summer in my swing and read or just sit and enjoy the birds, squirles etc.
but the mosquitoes are out there also and the nile disease is everywhere.

If you can stand the smell of it, citronella repels the little buggers. Some other aromatics are; Virginia cedarwood, rosemary, lavander, lemongrass and thyme. This mixture I've used and it has kept them at bay.
Two mosquitos were talking the other day while contemplating my husband. "should we eat him here or take him home to the kids?"

Do Jehovah's Witnesses eat Blood Oranges?
by Elsewhere in.
i came across some interesting oranges at the store the other day: blood oranges.. the outside is orange with large red patches, the inside is a deep red... it could also be described as a grape color.. i tried them and discovered that they don't have much of an "orange" taste at all.
i would say that eating one is more like eating a black-berry that happens to be shaped like an orange..

Does that mean that devil's food cake is forbidden??? Boo hoo big time! Blood oranges are wonderful and even my dogs eat them after they're peeled.....the oranges, not the dogs.

what caused me to doubt the borg 2
by kilroy2 ini had been in the cult for 30+ years when a watchtower article came out about how a witness would never use any thing to defend him or her self, including pepper spray stun gun.
and absoultly no fire arms.
i had followed blindly for years cauz mama said so and mama and grandpa could not be wrong.

Welcome Kilroy2! I'm in total agreement with you regarding defending oneself with whatever weapon comes to hand. I too have handguns, rifles and a shotgun and know how to use them all.
Jesus did tell his apostles to get swords and the swords at that time were not suitable for anything except self defense. l take this as a divine OK to defend oneself using weapons. The Roman short sword was certainly not suitable for hunting and would hardly serve as a spit to roast meat upon.
Jesus knew we would live in difficult times and allowed his followers to protect themselves and their loved ones with the most powerful weapon available to them at the time.

i went to a groooooooooooooovy concert (and i got the signature of the lead-singer on my arm!!!!
and the good thing is: i don't even feel guilty anymore!!!!!!

Its been almost a year since I've been out; got a visit this past Sunday
by Leander inlast year on may 18th i officially stopped attending jw meetings, i first told my wife and then i wrote a brief letter stating that i was resigning as a ms. over that time period i've had some doubts about whether or not i was doing the right thing, but basically i feel that i've made the correct decision.
unfortunately i can't say that i've become more spiritual during these past few months, however i do feel more and more strongly that there are many things in the bible that may be erroneous.
i'm not at the point of being an atheist, but i do feel that i'm ignorant of god's purpose for humans.

As I recall, the WTS said that when reading Bible verses its important to consider the context and to whom the statement was addressed.
Jesus told his APOSTLES to preach in Matt. 28:19,20. Not being an apostle, I never felt the need to go from door to door though I did to keep the elders off my back.
An interesting sidelight; Did the Ethiopian eunuch, Cornelius or the Samaritan woman at the well receive the command to preach? What about Nicodemus? Joseph of Arimathea? It seems there was a whole host of folks in the first century who were never told to get out and go from door to door.
