If your parents left everything to Watchtower, what could you legally do ?

i'm sure this must happen, brother faithful and sister subjection, spend their whole life in jw land, have an average/good living, have three kids, both pass on, leave it all (or most) to the watchtower, would you have a case or any legal grounds in getting your money back.. definitely a case for johnny cochrane.. i'm a little worried my parents might do something this stupid.. any experiences or ideas .................

I have a different slant on this subject.

I have prepared a will so that my children will have little problem when my wife and I pass on. Unfortunately, one daughter has joined the JW and by all indications is deeply imbedded in their beliefs. As one would expect, she has little love for her parents and acts accordingly. She devotes all her life and finances to the Watchtower. This includes working at the Patterson facility for next to no remuneration and as far as I can tell, no provision for retirement. I guess she bought the propaganda that Armageddon will happen before too long.

With the feelings I have for the Watchtower I am certain she would possibly pass on any inheritance she would receive from us to her husband and the Watchtower. This displeases me and my wife no end. As a result, we felt obligated to exclude her from our will. Believe me this is just about the hardest decision I have made in a long time.

a few years ago my daughter, living in the patterson complex, was operated on her left shoulder.

the operation was done by a "renowned specialist" of this type of operation.. she was visiting about a year after the operation and at that time her left shoulder was about 2 inches lower than her right shoulder and part of her arm and left hand had little feeling.

i just found out that she needs another operation.

Does anyone here know if the doctors performing surgery on people in my daughter's position, are JWs and would she have access to other non-JW doctors. It makes me ill to think that she is not getting the best of care.

Slight correction. There is only one divorce in my family. That was my only brother and he married a Catholic in the Catholic church. He remarried in the Protestant church with his second wife.

Most of my siblings were married to Protestants. When they got married in the Catholic Church it was in a separate part of the church building. The Protestant has to swear to bring up the children as Catholics. Aside from that there is no problem. If you never go to church after you are married I doubt if you will ever see a priest. Perhaps in a small town. Maybe. I was brought up a Catholic and married a Protestant. I have had no problem with either the Protestants or the Catholics. Generally, the church goers as well as the Priests and Ministers are nice pleasant people. My advice, don't let that stop you. There are certainly a lot of other things to worry about that are more important.

As you said, it is difficult to know what God really wants. I concur.

The biggest mistake you can make is to marry a JW.

i want to ask a deep question here, only because i want to know your answer..... i was listening to my mum and dad tonight watching a programme on the discovery channel about how in so many million years the sun will implode or explode and destroy all life in our solar system and beyond.

my dad was fascinated and was arguing with my mum who said it's rubbish because that isn't jehovah's purpose for the earth.

later i was thinking.

In reality, all we have is the scientists' theoretical evaluation of the status of the universe and it will be in the millions of years. In the meantime, man will have found a way to get the inhabitants off this planet and head for a destination somewhere in the universe which they have not as yet discovered. By then, all the belief systems will be more well defined and will probably no longer exist as we know them today.

I am still in good standing and make about 30-40% of the meetings, but only because I have so many friends and family that are JWs. As far as beliefs go, pretty much everything I was taught growing up is now bollocks. I made a point of deciding this on my own through personal bible study so no one can say the "evil apostates" influenced me.

I suppose one could say the evil apostates opened your eyes

well, i just got a mail letter from the local kh.

remember i am the one who has a daughter that was lured into the jws a few years ago.. i got a letter from a mr. christianson inviting me to discuss the bible with him.. i made a copy of one of the threads on child molestation.

i included a note telling him that based on the content of the attached infomation i cannot imagine what we could possible talk about.

I wonder if this was arranged with or through my daughter in Patterson. I live in a fenced in residential community that would not allow people, like the JWs, to enter. Too bad, I would like to have had a chat with him, except it would have to be on my turf, one on one.

Need help...I am so confused....(this will probably be rambling)

i started going to church.

i am going to a baptist church just because they have a great youth program at this one, and my daughter (12) has really gotten into it, which i think is a positive thing.

i have never really taught her anything about religion because i never knew what i believed, and i am having to confront now, what exactly it is that i do believe.

Gentlyferal has it as good as it gets.

Keep in mind that religions are "Belief Systems" not a theory nor a rocket science. As you probably know Belief is "Probable Knowledge" or "Mental Conviction". Armed with this definition fed to your child you must let him or her decide for his or herself.

What's the most ridiculous thing you were ever counselled on?

one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.

they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.

i was once counselled for joking around too much.

g behind his back. One look at that gleaming head during a meeting, and we would start with the puerile penis jokes and start poking each other and snickering

There is no way I could find what you did (mocking and making fun of another human being) acceptable. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. JW or not. If you are 12 or 13 I would understand. However you should have been repremanded by your parents. What you did was not funny in the least.

5th estate show on in french right now!

the 5th estate program that was on earlier in english, is now on in french.

my neighbours called and told me i was on tv.

the documentary was callled "spiritual shepards" in english and "pedophiles in the jehovahs witness church" in french.
