who has actually read the entire Bible?
by losingit inno matter how many times i've tried, i just couldn't get through the whole thing.
you know, there were always those reminders to read the bible, have a personal study, go out in service, and.... the other two of the five things we were supposed to do i already forgot.
so, i constantly felt guilty that i just had no interest.

End of Mysteries-- you have me curious. Id like to read the Bible in a scholarly way. I dont want to read it as a way to confirm or deny my faith in God. I don't want to read it from a moralistic point of view, to justify or condemn my life choices or those of others. I should look up the college syllabus for such a course and hit the books those kids read.

Wow! It's great to see so many people here who actually have read it. I actually found a copy of the NIV in my house. I should pick it up sometime :-) Even if all I am doing is confirming that it's either a bunch of garbage or a true treasure.

Judicial Committees are not guided by Holy Spirit. No, they are not!
I worry about your 11-year-old child. For me, what helps with my kids is keeping them active. We go to parks, the library, museums. During the summer it was so much easier because the pool was right there with kids ready to play. Now that the school year is here I plan to sign them up for afterschool activities where they can make new friends. At first I was worried for them because they had so many little friends in the organization. My oldest especially has a best friend whose father is an elder. Our families often hung out together at each other's houses, and into really late at night! They hung out once over the summer because my former friends texted and made plans to pick up my younguns. But, what's great is that my oldest has best friends at her school. No, they haven't had a playdate. (I did try, it just didn't work out). But she's happy with those friends. They talk and they giggle and they play. I don't know if your 11-year-old is suffering because of limited interaction with family....
I understand about being in a family dynamic where there is domestic violence, and you have my deepest condolences. It hurts so much when someone you love chooses to use violence against you. Any type is unacceptable-- emotional, physical, psychological. You have a community here that will listen to you and offer you wonderful advice. Post, post, post!

I've been stuck on this forum for a while, reading the latest of what people post.
But I feel a need to let go a little of jwnet, so that I can go back into reading my favorite types of books-- Latin American Literature (specifically Garcia Marquez and Allende), and modern US history books. I'm also a HUGE fan of children's picture books. I can't get enough of them-- beautiful art and sweet prose combined. :-)

No matter how many times I've tried, I just couldn't get through the whole thing. You know, there were always those reminders to read the bible, have a personal study, go out in service, and.... the other two of the five things we were supposed to do I already forgot. So, I constantly felt guilty that I just had no interest. Sure, I studied my WT articles diligently. But, the Bible? Ugh, the meetings were a bore, so the Bible was too.
Anyways, I've read entire books in the Bible, but not the book itself. I read-- Genesis, Acts, Matthew, Jonah, Ecclesiastes, and that's it.
What about you? Have you read the entire Bible? If not, what books did you read in the Bible?

Feelings after baptism
by Kool Jo inso for those who got baptized....a question for you:.
did you feel any different?
in the talk prior to taking the plunge, we were told that baptism would would show that we're in subjection to jehovah, so that we could do his will...personally, i felt that somehow i'd have a greater urge to do more spiritually, but i didn't..the feeling wore off in a couple days, and i still had the desire to do college ect...my attitude about life didn't change.... how did ya'll feel after your baptism in the borg?.

I remember a sister asking me after i got baptized if i felt Jehovah's spirit more in my life, if I felt different. I said, " No. I feel exactly the same." The look on her face! I guess she wanted me to go off about feeling blessed. Nope! In fact, shortlyafter getting bbaptized I fell into a deep depression where I lamented leaving my goals behind for Jehovah. Instant misery.Smiles for perhaps one day.
