Im interested in the responses you get as having a difficult time with my oldest about JWism. She just won't let go! It is my fault, mostly, because I did a good job indoctrinating her/ raising her. Not to mention she has a little friend in her classthat is also being raised JW. so there is peer pressure to follow along even thoigh i no longer practice this garbage. My youngest , however, has let go with gusto. Missing birthdays and celebrations really hurt her. i completely relate to your situation. Im just happy the girls don't have family members around that are in.

Why I am upset with myself for my atheistic beliefs
by confusedandalone inyesterday me and the wife were talking about how much better life has become.
she said something that got me thinking and made me a bit sad for a while.
we were discussing where we are at individually in our quest for understanding about the "super-natural" and i expressed i have no belief in it at all and how much i have changed she says, "i don't think you have changed much.

You're a confusing guy, at least to me. You're conflicted. You're certain. About religion, about God, now about spirituality. Because someone else affirmed your beliefs, you're an atheist? So why were you a jdub-- what struck your chord then? I guess Im wondering about consistency. What's your constant? Do you find yourself in others, even if you find yourself in the rejection of the other? Who defines you? ... i don't know... just some thoughts. ....

Saint Peters bones on display
by designs infrancis i is pulling out all the stops to keep his church relevant.
a first ever public display of saint peter's bones is drawing pilgrims from all over the world as the "year of faith" concludes.. http://news.yahoo.com/saint-peters-bones-display-first-time-001517448.html.

It's history, a link to the past, even if they're not his bones. Nothing wrong with it. It's like going to the Museum of Natural History and checking out dinosaur bones.

Do you miss the sense of superiority?
by Diest inthis is and odd topic but there is a part of me that really misses feeling that i knew more about the world than 99.9% of the people.
i spent so many years in school being the odd person because of religion.
i embraced it to some extent.

Im assuming that the ones that enjoyed the feeling of superiority were born-ins. I've witnessed the haughty attitude of born ins towards converts, even in children towards adults.

We Played Along With Our Own Oppression
by cofty inin communist east germany (gdr) writers were provided with a 'helper' - often a stasi agent - who would 'assist' the work through to publication.. poet and novelist gunter kunert described how this led to a sort of self-censorship.
it reminded me very much of the way jws can be trained to accept outrageous restrictions while imagining they are making free choices.. -----------------------------------------------------------------.
"as authors we were always trying to be ahead of the censor, to second-guess his instinct as to what was 'in' and what was 'off'.

I think that was my problem as a JW. Once the honeymoon stage was over, I just didn't stop talking. No real censorship bc I expressed my thoughts n feelings with my husband. Even so, I was expected to come to the" right" conclusion.

Since leaving the truth, do you celebrate holidays, and does your participation in such bring you happiness?
by Stand for Pure Worship ini ask this respectfully, and do so after watching a favorite show of mine's season opener which had a new years storyline.
hollywood tends to make movies and television show episodes centered around holiday themes appear warm and blissful.
while i'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, i can't deny my curiosity about ex-jws that do celebrate.

LisaRose- I keepforgetting :-)
Beautiful Xanthippe!
I grew up Catholic and particularly enjoyed Midnight Mass when the lights are off and candles are used instead. I never really did enjoy the pomp of priests during every other Sunday Mass. However, Christmas always seemed like the perfect occasion to go regal.
Recently I webt to a funeral at aCatholic church. Ididn't even know that I missed theceremonial nature of Mass. I missed seeing the altar, sitting in the pews, looking at the stained glass windows, watching people approach the altars.
