  the GOOD NEWS thread..

  since the spin we get from the wt and from the platform is very one sided, always banging on about how terrible the world is and how it's never been worse and mankind is going to hades in a handcart, how's about a good news thread?

  i don't know about you guys but i try to share the good stuff as much as possible, because i feel it un-demonises 'worldly' people, helps witnesses see its not cut and dry, black and white, us and them.

  there are millions of decent hardworking charitable people out there trying to make a difference for the community at large.

  I don't have a link, but...THis summer I worked with a group of kids about cleaning up their environment and taking care of it. Well, one day we picked up 58.8 lbs of trash that was in the woods! Total for the summer was 111.1 lbs of litter picked up during our weekly litter patrols in their community! :-) :-) :-)

  The singing is nice but the conductor was a showboat. I couldn't enjoy the music bc of him. Anyways, who cares about this chorus? Stop sweating jws.

  everything about the jws points exclusively to jehovah, the god of the old testament.. jesus hardly gets a mention.

  they can't ignore him completely but isn't it interesting that the only publication they produced about jesus, doesn't even have his name on it.

  it's simply called "the greatest man who ever lived".

  BackSearDevil-- that third point of yours is why I had a harder and harder time believing that service was worth anything. Absolutely NOTHING gets accomplished. Who do jws actually HELP?

  Iremember a talk a brother gave at the MS school that the ministry was the greatest act of charity perforned. Jws , unlie charitable orgs, save lives. I practically puked when I heard this. WTF? Really? Greater than Doctors without Borders? Red cross? The audacity of the arrogance behind that statement. And ppl actually BELIEVE this crap.

  Volunteering.

  since i left the watchtower a couple of years ago, i started volunteering 3 hours a week at a wecare center.

  it's like goodwill.

  well, i've been there approximately 9 months, and yesterday i received a lovely thank you card from them.

  Volunteering is the best. I get so much joy from volunteering at my daughters school and the PTA, and the girls love to see me active in the school too. I'd like to volunteer for other organizations but while my girls are in school, that's where I focus lots of my energy. Everyone is appreciative of the work we do. It's nice.

  VOlunteering out in service -- there's no comparison to how pointless it is. When I lived in the city, I enjoyed service bc I saw service as a means ofhelping ppl. Funny-- but I refused to go out in service on Saturday. They even switched my book study to a Saturday one to force me to go out afterwards! I kid you not! I didn't want to waste my Saturdays doing crap canvassing or speaking to noone when during the week I had meaningful conversations and interactions with ppl. It only got worse when we moved to the suburbs. The waste of gas and time pissed me off to no end. Noone opened their doors. It was HORRIBLE. i stopped going out. Jw service SUCKS.
