Mike,
Excellent. Good luck to you!!! Life is a lot of fun. Live it.
i'm sure most of you have read bits and pieces of my story throughout the last year being on this site.
i've decided as a human being, and as an adult, i'm going to make the decision on whether to stay with the jw religion or leave it.
i of course have many doubts about the organization which has lead me to do research.

kalk,
Nice commentary, but no one is picking on Mother Russia other than carving off a lot of their old satellites for the EU and NATO. THAT sticks in the old guard's craws big time. Russia would be better served fixing their own problems, but Putin and the old guard long for the days when they thought they ruled the world. Whatever gains Vlad may achieve in this land grab, over time, will likely erode away as it did during the Communist rule because they have soooo many internal problems that aren't close to being fixed. And when the West figures out how to tell Vlad to keep his oil and gas (and they are working on it), a lot of the wind will be gone from Vlad's sails.
The Russians are dangerous, in part because of the miltary capabilities but more than that the sour taste in their mouth from belching up anger and resentment for 20 plus years. They brought it on themselves, but Vlad is speaking these days in a delusional manner, making Russian the vicitim and re-writing history. That scares me.
that is the reason the watchtower leaders are desperately trying to protect their indoctrinated supporters from being influenced by the critics.. it will get harder and harder to recruit in countries where the internet is easily accessible...the watchtower has no control over the public like it does the indoctrinated jws.
..any interested person can very easily google and learn the truth about the watchtower cult before a 'return visit' can be made.
although most jws would be afraid to go into 'apostate ' sites, more and more are waking up to the truth about the watchtower , their interest triggered by different reasons such as the child abuse cover up, the constantly changing doctrines, the downsizing etc.
Splash,
Rational, factual and well stated. I agree. It's kind of like the 'Arab Spring," which was initiated in large part by the 20 something Internet cafe young Arabs but 'hijacked" by their parents (Muslim Brotherhood, et al.). But time is on the younger generation's side, just as it is with the Borg. Nice comment.

With the world wide web, any JW who truly wants to examine their relgion can come to a conclusion it is all BS within a few hours of earnest research. But they have cloaked eyes and read and digest only what they want, which is similar to many ex-JWs on this site who will only search for and read those bits of data which support their preconceived and prejudged viewpoints. And then stop, firmly satisfied about their beliefs. Unless and until JWs want to open their eyes and minds they will remain closed.

Anne,
I stil do not understand your point. The Economist is widely viewed as one of, if not the, best sources of economic news/insight/analysis. When I was gettting my MBA, we were directed to read it and make it part of our routine reading as an excellent source of business/economic information. That The Economist is pointing this out doesn't negate it, contaminate it or add suspcion to it.
hello everyone just wanted to relate a situation that occurred a few days ago.
so i have quit going to meetings for a few months now based on some issues i have with the explanations of current doctrines.
my wife is none too happy with this but over the last few months we have had some date nights and have tentitively agreed to disagree.
Your wife rolled on you, huh? She's a snitch, huh? Not very loyal is she? As OTWO indicates, don't be fooled by the pleasant coffe talk chatter from the elders. The Borg has a dark side and you are about to see it. You will be considered a threat to the entire congregagtion. I would suggest keeping your views to yourself, quiety and quckly fading and find another wife. You don't see or understand how utterly dysfunctional all of this is. You will one day. Good luck.

AnneB,
Explain. And yes FullTime, my GF says it is worse than the news reports.
we moved house and no active jw knows we live there.
it's in another congregation territory too so when they finally come knocking, they won't know i'm a dirty apostate when i tell them to put me on the do not call list.
problem is, the local discount supermarket across the highway is frequented by jws from my previous previous congregation!.
Julia,
I am very happy for you. The longer you are out the more you will wonder what you ever saw in the Borg. And likely the happier and more fulfilled you will be. Good luck!!!

FullTime,
You are spot on. Corruption is a contaminant that will keep India from becoming a great country and fulfilling its potential. I date a woman from India, and it pains her terribly to see and have experienced what the economists describe. It is real
i have been doing a lot of research on the bible and its roots so to speak and its becoming clearer that the jews like other races took gods and stories from others and made them their own.
its also become clear that many of the books were written later then stated, like daniel probably written about a hundred years before christ and some of it maybe even after.
but what i don't get is the prophecies.
The very idea that we get a moral compass from religion is fallacious. Numerous studies show that the more secular - and less religious - a community, state or country is, the more functional it is. In the U.S., the most religious states show a direct correlation with: higher rates of divorce; higher rates of illiciit and prescription drug use; lower rates of educational attainment; higher rates of crime, gun crime and violent crime; and thigher rates of poverty, to name a few. These facts can be easily verified. Now Cold Steel, does it look like us atheists are angry, lost souls?
The same thing holds true internationally. In a landmark 2005 study published in the Journal of Religion & Society Volume 7 (2005) (Cross-National Correlations of Quantifiable Societal Health with Popular Religiosity and Secularism in the Prosperous Democracies) the researcher found that, in "almost all regards the highly secular democracies consistently enjoy low rates of societal dysfunction, demonstrating that widespread religious belief does not improve societal health, and that moreover there is a positive correlation between a first-world country's level of religiosity (e.g., the degree of confidence that a traditional monotheistic God exists) and level of social dysfunction (e.g., homicide rates)."
I can go on all night with this, CS. You are like so many other theists on this site; you spew irrational crap based on your feelings, beliefs, shallow thoughts, limited expereience and one dimensional 'knowledge.' And like my ex-wife and so many of my ex-GFs, you open your mouth (or type) based on those feelings, absent any real evidence or data. I'm embarrassed.
