  once the spell is broken, one you take a deep fresh breath outisde of the watchtower camp, the amazingly obvious realisation becomes clear.... of course this is a lie, of course this is ridiculous!

  you find you have memories of really believing the claims and promises, but it seems like another life, another experience.

  it seems so incredibly false once you leave and it is very difficult to belive you even once accepted it!

  Snare, as a follow-up: If an OP gets 30 views per post that appears, from my less-than-scientific-observation, to make it a fairly popular OP. Note the OP that's currently 'showing" about new Borg information: "What is this annoucement coming in August." It has 54 posts to this point and over 5600 views. Over 100 views per post suggests current, fading, disillusioned Borgians or those freshly out. Either way they are looking for something that suggests the Borg is either going to become more tolerant and mainstream (allowing DFed people to see loved ones and those trapped because of family to stay) or the Borg is going to throw in the towel or admit they were wrong, for examples.

  New Light. Bleeding Jesuses. Miracles. Feelings. Beliefs. Please, all you current, fading, sick and tired Dubs and those fresly out: your mindset is trapping you; if you do finally exit the Borg and you keep this mindset, it will continue to trap you.

Marriage equality advocates have had a string of legal successes over the past year, most recently this week in Pennsylvania and Oregon where federal judges struck down bans on gay marriage.

  Public opinion polls in the United States since 2010 show majority support for legal recognition of same-sex marriage. Majority public support for same-sex marriage has solidified, as polls since 2010 consistently indicate support above 50%.[1] Support has increased steadily for more than a decade, with supporters first achieving a majority in 2010.[2][3][4][5] An August 2010 CNN poll became the first national poll to show majority support for same-sex marriage,[6] with nearly all subsequent polls showing majority support.

  Two successive Gallup polls in 2012 saw support climb from 53% to 54%, indicating a steady but slight growth in acceptance of gay marriages over the past year after a more rapid increase between 2009 and 2011. In the latest May 8-11 poll, there is further evidence that support for gay marriage has solidified above the majority level. This comes on the heels of gay marriage proponents' 14th legal victory in a row.

  When Gallup first asked Americans this question about same-sex marriage in 1996, 68% were opposed to recognizing marriage between two men or two women, with slightly more than a quarter supporting it (27%). Since then, support has steadily grown, reaching 42% by 2004 when Massachusetts became the first state to legalize it -- a milestone that reached its 10th anniversary this month.

  First, why are you still awake? It's what, 1:15 a.m. your time? Second, excellent analysis. "New Light" is no different than miracles and saints and bleeding/crying Jesuses, which appeal to the base emotions of the flock. You all have heard me rant about that. Feelings are the lowest, followed quickly by beliefs. That's why they are so effective in keeping the blind, blind and the trapped, trapped. The Borgians keenly look forward to 'new light," and the Dark Lords in the Tower know it. Even on this site, the number of 'views' on any topic related to 'this just in' about the Borg results in the highest number of 'Views" of any other type of post. Addicted to it.

  anyone else get the distinct impression that jws are being worked up into a frenzy with all the changes and activity nowadays?

  by the end of august, there will have been four campaigns inside of a year.

  one last november, a memorial campaign, a convention campaign and an advertise jw.org campaign.. then there's the conventions with all the hooplah around that with all the video, and the aggrandizement of synchronized gb talks.

  Vidiot is right. So is everyone else! Change or die; it's really that simple, but the Borganization is relatively young as cults and religions go, so one would have to study how cults transformed into mainstream religions. Or not. The Borg is up against a lot of issues which do not fit their business design (and it is a business). They rely on under-educated people who can be easily controlled. For a certainty there is still a lot of those types left in the world, but they are shrinking due to the Internet and a general improvement in soci-economic welfare around the globe. People with decent jobs and disposable income aren't likely to be attracted to the Borg.

  It will be interesting to see how they evolve. Selling off assets, streamlining the org chart and minimizing everywhere they can are all actions taken by organizations feeling stress. But still, dumbass cults have been around for a long time. The only difference with this nasty, hate-filled cult is that they have 'heaven's gated' their way in between a rock and a hard place. Good for them.

  My trap was a bellief that the bible was the inspired word of god, and that somewhere in there was the 'truth' if we only read and understood it correctly. The Borg made more sense than most to me. The paradise earth, no hell fire, no trinity, no special elevated clergy class (so I thought) and a (false) international brotherhood all appealed to me. And all of these could be supported by 'gods word.'

  The control never appealed to me; I hated it from the beginning. I detested the controlling language and the myriad of rules, semi-rules, rules light, almost rules and walk, talk and quack like rules. They kept me lukewarm and not 'advancing' for years, until I buried them and 'reached out.'

  My hatred for the controlling rules finally re-emerged, in part because once I became an elder I found that the closer I got to the center of the core the more rotten the apple became. My disillusionment was difficult to contain. I only wish that the Internet and this site existed then.

  In summary, the Borg appealed to me because in some ways it was more 'rational' than the rest of Christendom. But the primary problem was the foundation on which all of it was built - my belief that the bible was inspired of god. Once that was removed, I was truly free. It was the best awakening ever.

  I've stayed out of this discussion to this point because I don't get involved in theist/biblical topics. However, your excuse for leaving is pure bullshit. You no longer wish to remain amongst those who require facts and evidence to support arguments. Viviane's style isn't for everyone, but I agree completely with her (I'm assuming Viviane is a she - if not Viv correct me) that repeating tired, worn out mantras from days gone by in the Borg and from the church/biible is lame and unacceptable. That stuff is crap; it wasn't written by scientists or by anyone who had any idea what they were talking about, just as they didn't know anything about micro-organisms, viruses, bacteria, etc. So anything the old men who wrote that stuff thousands of years ago have to say about anything doesn't move or impress me. Repeating their words as if they are mantras of wisdom handed down straight from god is pure bullshit.

  Go back to the land of purple dinosaur group hugs where you belong. Where your brain never has to expand beyone the rote programming it now contains. The lactic acid created when you finally have to use it must hurt like hell.

  Excellent summary. Thanks. I'm trying hard to give Met some space. The RCA (root cause analysis) of most of his rants is narcissism and ego, as it is with most if not all consipracy theorists (only they have 'special' knowledge or 'get it' while the rest of us are mindless drones believing everything the government tells us).

  However, beneath all of the nonsense he routinely provides on this forum (and it is I suppose entertaining to some degree), there seems to be left over JW angst as the basis for a lot of it. Met was likely drawn to the Borg based on the paradise earth and all that it would bring - including an end to men lording over men and the huge disparities we see in wealth-much more than the rest of us were. For that my heart is touched, as we all shared a bit of that when we were 7 of 9 (Star Trek/Borg reference - look it up).

  Still, the conspiracy theorists among us do not help any who are coming out of the Borg or trying to establish better lives post-Borg. The theories are very easy to dis-member, but the theorists, because of the way they think, won't listen. It's identical to relgiion in this manner.

  Anyway, very nice post VillageGirl. I'm glad you're here.

  Nice stuff. Thanks. Met. Broad strokes? As Ive mentioned to you before, I taught these topics in college and have studied them in under-grad, at the Master's level and will soon be studying them again during my PhD. Discoursing with you is like clubbing baby seals. It isn't really sport and I keep it simple for the simple. Nice try though. I will say you are consistent.
