  Do any ex JW' s/ God believer's, Agnostics or Atheists believe in Karma? And WHY?

  just reading a thread and the mention of karma popped up.

  ( it happens, lol).

  a lot of people believe in karma: what goes around comes around.. some months ago, while on another exjw site, karma was mentioned and i thought it a little odd, as they are atheist.

  I experienced a lot of harm upon my somewhat crash and burn departure from the Borg, and my children experienced a lot as well. None of it was fair, but since I had been an elder I knew that the dark side of the Borg existed and was capable of evil. So I put it in its appropriate place, and used it as fuel along with the anger I felt to make my life and the lives of my children everything that it could be. There were stumbling blocks along the way but after 20 years all 3 of us are very happy, accomplished and successful. Very.

  Your pain, and the injustices you feel because of the dark side of the Borg, hurt all of us. As to the Borg's minions who caused the pain to me and mine?? I haven't given it a lot of thought but I occasionally hear updates about them from other ex-JWs. After 20 years most of them have fared badly to very badly. Their evil wasn't limited to me and mine. Karma. Keep your head up, walk tall and proudly and don't give the nasty little men any more control over your emotions than they deserve.

  Combine what Phizzy, SOP, OTWO, Cofty and especially LisaRose (well stated) said. That's what I believe. I use the word karma a lot, but it isn't in reference to majic, an unseen cosmic force or superstition.

  my wife asked me "what, do u believe in evolution now?

  because im watching a science show?

  Excellent for you!! And the longer you continue your education the more you will appreciate the scientific method. I'm so programmed by it that I won't form opinions until I have done some research. Plus, I've been an adjunct prof at 2 colleges, and I see 'red' when someone makes a definitive or authoritative statement, that is nothing more than an unsupported opinion that they should have kept to themselves, totally unsupported by actual facts and empirical data. Keep up the good work!!!

  honolulu police officers are urging lawmakers to keep an exemption.

  in the stste law that lets undercover officers have sex with prostitutes.

  The point about atheists being just as arrogant and ignorant and letting theists believe what they want is what I was responded to. I think I addressed that at a high level. I agree with you completely about letting theists believe what they wish and respecting it, but bringing their theist mantras to a scenitific discussion is disrespectful and deserving of flames. They have a place for that, and it isn't in scentific discussions. There are some good discussions relative to AB and even ID, but as Snare states, lots of real science has gone into addressing those.

  And congrats to being an engineering student!! Which area of study? Electrical, mechanical, nuclear, civil? Trains ? (Just kidding). I work with a lot of engineers, some of whom have advanced degrees in nuclear and blast engineering. very smart people.

  I think your point misses the point, I'm an atheist, and I do not give one moment's thought to what creationists and theists believe. Ever. I used to be one, so I already know what they believe and respect it. But once there is a structured debate about the topic, such as on this forum, then the atheists are going to get annoyed and irritated at the theists/creationists when ALL they can bring to the discussion is their feelings, thoughts and belieifs. I have pontificated this point numerous times in the 11 months I've been on this forum. Most if not all of the atheists are college educated, some have advanced degrees, such as Snare and yours truly. We have learned how to learn, incluidng the scientific method, developing a rational, objective point of view and, most important, to support our statements or assertions with data and facts obtained through the scientific method.

  If theists and creationists want to discuss 2000 or 3000 year old writings, as Snare indicates, what they "believe" or "feel" or have been taught or those myths and legends which have significant meaning to them, then they need to do so in the 95 percent of the topics submitted on this site for discussion. Think, man (or woman). Think rationally. Look at the past 100 topics on this site. Look at it historically. Ninety five percent of them are theist/JW stuff to which no atheist should give any interest (I don't). I post on average once per day. There is a reason for that WillBe.

  Now if the theists and creationists would show the same restraint and respect for non-theists subjects and bring ONLY facts to them, you wouldn't piss us off so much. The problem is not in the atheists who are human and get tired of saying the same thing over and over and especially of hearing the same tired non-scientific, non-factual mantras over and over. Y'all gots a place for that. Don't bring it to these discussions.

  Clarify your argument and you will understand. Snare gets annoyed just as Cofty and I and others. We are human, not arrogant (OK, I may be a bit arrogant).

  Why should we care what consenting adults do, whether money or favors change hands or not. Prostitution can certainly have deleterious effects on a community, but there are ways to address these without worrying about sex. And it has and will always be present (unless we want to start cutting hands, feet and other body parts off of those caught as a deterrent). Many places in the Middle East, such as the UAE, are tolerating it.

  And Snare, I would love to try to handle that many concubines!!!! Or die trying. LOL

  I try to avoid these discussions, leaving them to the real experts like Cofy, Viviane and Snare. But the scientist you rerference appears to be a Christian opportunist tyring to link the discovery, in a completely non-scientific manner, to her god and her belief system. This really is pathetic and doesn't deserve serious discussion. My only response is where they hell has her god been all of these billions of years????? Having a drink and marveling and what he/she/it/they brought about? Because other than that I can't see that her god has been doing anything.

  Like Zed said in another OP, the new boss will be the same as the old boss. It doesn't matter how they are chosen or how they shuffle the deck at the top, as long as the Borg's leaders are controlling what they say, how they say it and how they treat the flock. Every organization resembles its leadership. Unless and until the leadership changes - radically - there can be no real reform. And IMHO unless they give up the reason for their very existence, Armagageddon and the pending destruction of 6.69 billion people who aren't JWs, nothing can truly change.

  Ending: 1. Disfellowshipping; 2. Keeping everyone stupid and poor by discouraging ecucation; 3. The Blood Issue; 4. Counting hours and annyoing people through the process while accomplishing nothing; 5. Rules, more rules, sounds like a rule, mini-me rules, walk, talk and quack like rules, rules-light and all the other ways they cheat everyone out of ther CONSCIENCE to make PERSONAL DECISIONS and more darkly turning borther against brother and setting eveyrone up to judge each other based on those stupid, stupid rules. What I wear, listen to, whether I participate in sports, go to college, how I choose to groom myself and what I allow for my children in these areas is none of their fukkking business. When they 'get' that, the Borg will be a much better place and will be far less like animals who eat their own. They are bleeding or have bled the best and brightest and nearly 70 percent of their youth leaves. That total would be higher if it weren't for disfellowshipping.

  The Borg is a nasty, hate-filled and dangerous organization. It is full of decent, misled people.

  That's a good start.

  Ditto re: great letter. The only thing I would change moving forward is do not give any of the JWs power over you by using their loaded language. I would never use 'apostate' for example. That is their scarlet letter. There are many substitutes. Changing the language will help you and it will remove a lot of their thunder.
