Greta's dad, oh, that changes everything. I'm glad they lost the court case; I wish harm on no one, but they should have seen this coming, and their lawyer especially should have seen this coming. Read my previous post.

Homey,
And you would be wrong. You got a problem with sex, huh? And you hate gays. Geesh, you reallly have some hang-ups. I'm glad, very glad, that what you think is not only the minorty viewpoint in the developed world but has been determined unconstitutional in the US and in many other countries.
From an earlier OP:
Organizations and businesses are egoist, which means their decisions are typically based on self interest and that this is just and proper. Profit is not a dirty word, for example. Capitalism was built on this, and it works well – to a point.
The U.S. government rests on the foundation of the Constitution (life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and general welfare for all), and operates typically in a utilitarian manner, (for the common good), which means that actions should be directed toward achieving the greatest happiness for the greatest number of individuals, or all of society, and would seek a balance of justice, freedom and fairness. The Constitution (which was a revolutionary document crafted by visionaries) is predicated on these concepts.
Balancing these two views is the skill-set which makes great countries. Both are correct. One isn’t ‘right’ and one isn’t ‘wrong.’ Governments in capitalistic countries seek to create a thriving business environment for a strong economy while balancing the need for regulation (environment, social, etc.), justice and fairness for all. But governments, according to Adam Smith’s perfect model, shouldn’t directly support or subsidize businesses, unless those businesses impact the country’s ability to feed and protect itself. Otherwise, failing businesses should be allowed to fail. Textiles? Let them go to Mexico and replace textiles with semi-conductors. Banks? Let them fail and be absorbed by other banks. Chrysler? Let it go the way of the wind and see what type of Phoenix, more beautiful and efficient, is re-born in its place. The recent bailout of the banks deemed to be TBTF (too big to fail) was more political response than reality. Other banks would have absorbed the failed ones, and the economy would have rebounded stronger for it. But many weren’t able to accept the short-term political and economic impact.
That’s the way Adam Smith envisioned a perfect economic model. He was right. But we humans – and our congressmen/women - don’t want the textile industry to go away if we depend on it for food or political power. We don’t want Chrysler to fail if we work for Chrysler or within the supply chain. And so on. The egoist, some of which rail against government controls, etc., seeks assistance from the universalist when they need it (bail me out, subsidize me, build a wall around me, keep those mean Chinese away, increase tariffs, etc.). As expected. The egoist will always think of themselves first and last.
The egoist (businesses) also seeks assistance from the universalist (government) by lobbying for and demanding better roads, schools, airports, utilities, etc. to help its business thrive.
So it comes off as more than a bit hypocritical for a business, a completely egoist enterprise, to think it can serve only who it wishes, especially when it has asked and gotten so much from the government – which has a competing interest of the common good for all – that has helped make their business thrive. And how many of you haters have or have had government backed school and/or home loans, lived in subsidized housing, were on food stamps, welfare, WIC, worker's comp, etc., etc.. To paint with such a broad brush about the mean ole violent government, especially when one has benefited from it so much, is hypocritical.
Those businesses which discriminate against others, even or especially based on their own peronal relgious beliefs, are on very shaky ground when it comes to the U.S. egoist/universalist capitalistic environment and the U.S. Constitution. To try to hide behind religion is a sham, and the courts have consistently upheld the rights of all citizens when they faced such discrimination. Courts in state after state are ruling that discriminating against gays is unconstitutional and numerous anti-gay marriage laws have been overturned (many of these decisions are currently stayed based on appeal).
Deal with it haters.

Escaping Indoctrination - Faith Isn't a Virtue.
by cofty inthe unknown writer of the gospel of john put the following words in jesus' mouth, "blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.".
persuading countless generations that it is a virtue to believe incredible things on insufficient evidence, is one of religion's cleverest tricks.. the more incredible the claim; the more flimsy the evidence; the stronger the belief; the greater the virtue.. this is the exact opposite of how we operate in every other aspect of our lives.. rational people must demand objective evidence for everything they are asked to believe.
"extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence".. leaving the dogmatic claims of the watchtower is only a first step.

Justice was served. And they had a really bad lawyer. WTF do you expect? Britain, like the US, is a constitutional democracy/monarchy.

Homey,
"Sex life"? Does that include heteros? WTF? Please, kind sir, come into the 21st Century. I know it seems scary, but it is wonderful. You are making our case much better than we could. You clearly have a lot of hatred towards gays. Look inside yourself and try to figure out why. For me it was like flipping a switch. As I've noted before on this site, I looked at my 2 beautiful amazing children when they were about 10 and 12, and I was an elder at the time, and thought to myself there is no fukkking chance I am going to DF them from my life if either or both is gay. None. Nada. Wasn't going to happen. Ever. From that day forward I couldn't care less.

Wow,
Some posters are being tormented, followed around actually, by the LGBT community. I feel so left out. They never bother me. I don't even know who these people are. Is it me or is it them? Why am I not important enough to be harrassed by them??? My ex GF was bi. Maybe that's why.
Seriously, I don't know what to do with these comments, but thanks to those of you who post such drivel because you are doing much more for the lurkers and viewers of this OP with your very strange posts than I ever could. This is a simple matter. Follow along. The SCOTUS and other national courts have determined that it is against their respective constitutions to discriminate against, among others, the LGBT community in the areas we have discussed on this OP and others. They have it right. Haters are in the minority and are shrinking in numbers every day. Cloaking your hatred behind ridiculous rationale and straw man arguments fools no one. It is hate.
Practice your religion in your church and home. If you take it into the subsidized, regulated, constitutionally protected arenas of life, your religion has its limits. As it should.

Kate,
The ones who don't are called Neanderthals, Dead Men Walking, Angry Old White Men, T-Rexes Soon to Be Extinct. Thankfully. And these OPs always get the requisite rant from an AOWM (Angry Old White Man) complaining about the REAL problem, which is (in their narrow twisted homophobic hate filled minds) the LGBT activists. It nauseates me. They don't seem capable of putting the activists in historical context. But I suppose the same AOWM were irritated about the women's suffrage movement, the civil rights movement, and any other movement that didn't look white, male and in control of everything.
The only reason there is a tip of the spear activist group amongst the LGBT community is because it is necessary. When it isn't they won't be around.. Hate cloaked behind such ridiculous rationale is stil hate. By far the easiest thing for the haters to do would be to stop hating. But the SCOTUS, the POTUS, your company, manager, etc. can't change your hearts. But they can damn sure do something about your behavior.
So haters. Get some therapy. Or deal with it. Or both. You all were once in the majority, but even then the SCOTUS and other courts around the globe did the right thing in securing the freedom and rights granted under the various constitutions. In almost all Western countries and much of the rest of the developed world you are now squarely in the minority. Rant on AOWM. Rant on. Fewer are listening, but you still have some friends on FoxNews. For now.

From the 1950s:
“Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.”
– Judge Leon M. Bazile, January 6, 1959
From 2014:
"The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday from a studio that refused to photograph a lesbian couple's commitment ceremony, letting stand a New Mexico high court ruling that helped spur a national debate over gay rights and religious freedom.
The justices left in place a unanimous state Supreme Court ruling last year that said Elane Photography violated New Mexico's Human Rights Act by refusing to photograph the same-sex ceremony "in the same way as if it had refused to photograph a wedding between people of different races."
We had a similar discussion a few months ago on this topic. I posted a summary of a business' rights and desires and those of the US and similar democracies. Look it up. Those of you thinking that these types of discriminatory practices have any place or those conducting such practices any rights in constituional democracies such as the US and Brtain don't understand how these things work. And that includes the parrotheads on Fox News.

What's the difference between exJWs who FLOURISH and those that don't?
by Fernando inquite a few here on jwn seem to have grown and developed in leaps and bounds, sometimes beyond their wildest dreams.. others seem to still be struggling.. what do you think makes it possible to flourish?.
the degree to which our mind has been liberated from watchtower thinking?.
if so, this seems to happen in many different ways, so what is the secret?.

Fernando, I like this OP. I'm interested to see where it goes. I don't know if there are any secrets, and like most complicated issues there are likely a variety of reasons and causes. But as it is with most things there are likely a few things which show up routinely in the more successful, the happiest, etc.
So I will prime the pump. Many studies suggest there is a strong correlation between the happiest - and most functional economically and socially- countries in the world and the least religious countries in the world. The same correlation exists between the happiest and most functional and the least religious states. Many studies suggest there is a strong correlation between IQ and religion; the 'smartest' countries in the world tend to be the least religious.
So whether the measuring stick is happiness or success, maximizing one's brain power and energy towards achievable, realistic life goals seems to be a primary component. It isn't my goal to turn your OP into yet another us against them, theist/atheist OP, but the data seems clear, especially in the developed world.
As for me, I'm one of those on this site who has to pinch themselves from time to time to remind myself of all the things I have experienced and accomplished since exiting the Borg. None of those things would have occurred if I had kept my brain and energy wrapped up in a religious belief system. You can google the tenets for success. A focused mindset with vision and creativity and positive energy are near the top of all of the lists. When we were in the Borg, our focus and energy were on a fairy tale paradise. IMHO too many are still meandering around attempting to replace the fairy tale with yet another.

Well stated DisArmed,
I have that kind of faith in my friends and children. I would give my life for my best friend, without hesitation, and I think he knows that. But faith in something imaginary, make believe, irrational, that has done nothing but trap me for most of my youth??? Never again.
