i am having a discussion with my elder bro-in-law, and he says the bible was written for all people.... but i'm sure i've read somewhere that the wt says its only meant to be understood by the faithful and discreet slave..or 144,000..am i right?
i'm a bit confused on this point.

i remember some study conductors who had the habit of calling on people in the audience that seemed distracted or unprepared--on purpose so as to embarass them.
some were so out of it when the mic was handed to them they had to ask what was the question, why did you call on me i didnt have my hand up, etc.
Wasnt me this time, but I remember one poor red faced young "bro" having to give a fairly long talk on Masturbation. Poor guy. Was red faced thru out the whole ordeal. I really felt for him.

Mike - sorry to hear that you had to experience the "brotherly love and understanding" of our Witness acquaintances first hand and in such a hypocritical way. Pious pricks arent they. Yes, they sure are one stuck up bunch of goody goodies, if ever I saw one.
Just saying things like Gosh!, Gee! or Jeepers! (or worse) Golly! would get me a severe talking to that "Witnesses dont use that kind of language - its a slang form or God or Jesus and we are blaspheming him by using those words" ...
and blurting the perennial "Good Luck!" (heaven forbid) was enough to get you roasted on the altar of the false goddess of Luck!
Oh Yes I've had my fair share of dressing downs, and been whittled down to size on more than one occasion, by the cutting looks and remarks of our Loving brothers and sisters, but I've never needed them to show their love and understanding at a crucial time in my life. Thank God.
everyone in the truth, knows it is the "love of money", not money itself that is wrong.
i am well aware that money in itself does not bring happiness.. what i detect though amongst the witnesses is almost an antipathy to money and wealth.
one sister i was speaking to the other day complained about all the spending that goes on at xmas.
I know this is going off the track slightly, but the unbounded materialism that I have "witnessed" amongst the witnesses! My giddy aunt, it would put a worldly person to shame! they have to have the latest 4WD vehicle, the flashest house, the best furniture, and I'm talking about elders and overseers here, mostly.
Back in My Day, (way back actually), materialism was Frowned Upon. I think things have changed a bit since I was a girl growing up in the "twoof".

I'm yet another Ex JW from New Zealand. I was brought up as one, along with other members of our large family.
I was baptised at 10, DF'd at the age of 16, and reinstated when I was about 30.
Around the age of 35, I started really looking into religions and found that there were many things about our founder that were not quite in line with an anointed "channel of God". I wrote a letter to my JW elder brother in law, who replied with "we're none of us perfect, we all make mistakes, and this religion is the closest thing to the truth...blah blah" So I hung in there for a bit longer, but other little and big things made me just throw up my hands in disgust.
One day I had a the wife of the circuit overseer (who was actually a close personal friend during my childhood) and her sidekick come to visit. Ah I thought, here's my chance to get some answers, or at least have a discussion. So, she says, she is 'concerned' at why I haven't been attending the meetings recently. My answer was that "I had found out some things about the Witnesses that really upset me". Her answer? She immediately got up and says "Well thank you for the tea, we'd better be going now". With that, she and her friend made a hasty exit. I never saw them again.
I was dumbfounded. How blind can you be?
Anyway I have lots of little experiences and stories, will be happy to relate them in due course!
