I posted on the old H20 Board. I posted there as "Cyrus". Just like here, I didn't post much, but I lurked almost every day. I first found H20 when I was trying to find some information/ opinions on the 1914 generation change in the Nov. 15 1995 Watchtower. That means I would have been on that board beginning in 1996 or so.

the phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind.
how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.

I remember exactly where I was when the Thunderbolt struck! I was an elder studying the Nov. 1 1995 Watchtower when I read about the 1914 generation change. ( that the generation that saw 1914 would live to see Armageddon-now abandoned ) I remember sitting in my chair and thinking, "These people haven't a clue-they don't understand the Bible any better than a Tibetan monk" Thus began my slow fade, it was a painful journey. My wife left me and my kids don't understand why I don't go to meetings any more. I try to spoon-feed them a little about the things I learn here and on other sites, but it's a slow process. I don't want them to know that I'm a rabid apostate- at least not yet...

It is true that this is ancient history. However there is a modern connection, especially concerning medical quackery. Not only is the society's heinous anti-blood stance anchored in this old material but also if you'll notice any modern Awake! magazine article that deals with a medical issue always has a disclaimer to the effect that the publishers of Awake "do not endorse any form of medical procedure" the reason for that disclaimer is that they used to endorse and condemn certain practices, and if you can show these to people, who knows? It might help...

You're right. I've followed Richie's posts with great interest. It's a shame that his mother might never again have contact with him, prefering the rules of a publishing company over her son, but that's her choice, sick as it may be.

I've read your son's posts. He is a wise and intelligent young man with a love of life and a great sense of humor. He has a great potential here at the beginning of his adult life to be a successful, well-rounded person. It would be a real shame if you weren't there to share it with him. Just remember that as he goes through life that his door of communication is always open, but it will be up to you to go through it.

Just how hyped was 1975?

i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.
what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.
