Greg Stafford
by Gordy inmany here will know that greg stafford is an independent jw apologist.
he has defended watchtower doctrine, written a number of books and publicly debated rob bowman (also soon to publicly debate james white).
this has confused a lot of people as jws are discouraged from public debate.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses REALLY Welcomed Here?
by minimus inin view of the fact that there are mostly ex-witnesses on this forum, the question is," are jw's truly welcomed here?".
it seems to me that if a poster supports the witnesses in any way, that they will know about it.

I think Min summed it up pretty well.
Here's the thing: the WT Society is a black and white, absolutistic religion by it's very nature. You simply cannot get around that fact. Now, certain individual JWs (or JW sympathizers) may be more liberal and post here, and although they should be treated a measure of respect, it does seem completely rational to point out the great incoherency in their views/actions.
I'm learning to be more tolerant of others and less absolutistic myself. But, when it comes to an absolutistic ideology you have to play by their rules, that is, with an element of absolutism. Think about it.

All I know is that this World Series will be the least watched, ever. Who cares?
And just think, it could have been the most watched World Series ever if not for a foul ball here, a hit there, an error here....

Of Posting, Children and Other Things
by Big Tex inin the light of day, and over a nice cup of tea, sanity returns.
the problems which once seemed so big are reduced to their correct proportions, and i am left feeling more than a little embarassed over my role in the events of the past 24 hours.
i didn't realize i had a drama queen buried inside waiting to be activated.

(((Tina)))
Thanks! I'd like to add that Tina is a great lady herself -- very fun and outgoing. I had a blast and hope to see you again either in Ohio or here in Chicago (the greatest city in the world).
Jim's a great guy too. I would just stay away from that "onacruse" fella. He's kinda weird, 'ya know.
LMAO @ Special K.

How many GB members were converts? How many are 2'nd generation?
by logansrun ini know that fred franz and karl klein were both converts to the jw religion, although klein was quite young when he became a dub if memory serves me correct.
both are dead and have reached their heavenly reward, though (hahahahahahahahahaha).
what about those alive today?

From the information that can be found I think it is safe to say that all of the GB were either raised in the Society or joined at a very young age (only a couple joined in their late teens/early 20's). Why is this important?
One simple reason: most people cannot make educated decisions about such complex subjects at that age. They certainly have a skewed viewpoint of matters if they were indoctrinated into the belief system from babyhood.
Basically, we are not talking about educated people who made an informed choice about the Dubs. We are talking about JW lifers who were as sheltered as a rat in a Skinner box on the North Pole. Telling. Very telling.

Explain your politics
by logansrun inpolitical threads seem to be the one which generate the most vitriolic arguments on this board.
please stay away from arguments in this thread.. i'd like to know what type of political philosophy you enodorse, not just some results from an on-line test.
furthermore, i'd like to know why you feel the way you do and what criticisms could be laid against your philosophy.

Excellent thoughts on the enviornment, Phantom. Sort of a twist on Pascal's Wager. I like it.

Rocketman,
I believe psychologists would call that a "self-fulfilling prophecy."
Works both ways too. Think: Yankees.

Hamas,
There's an old phrase, "It's the economy, stupid." It seems that when all is said and done that pretty much is true. It's the thing I'm trying to figure out the most ;)
Soledad,
Although I greatly disagree with your comments on enviornmentalism (We're losing species by the shit-load every day and the hole in the ozone is dramatically increasing. Be concerened) I appreciate your comments.
One of the reasons I started this thread is that politics is extremely confusing for me, even though I have devoted a lot of reading into the matter since leaving the dubs last year. I still consider myself an ameteur par excellance. Just today I was at the library and found books by educated authors with titles like, "Why the Left is Wrong" or "Where The Conservatives Have Failed." Do you know how mother-effing frustrating it is to form an educated opinion when you have such drastically different tones thrown at you. I want answers dammit.
