The Road Less Traveled
by Brummie intoday i went up into my loft (and that itself is a less traveled road), after moving the cobwebs and several unidentified spiders i opened about 3 huge boxs of old old watchtower books, 7 studies, rutherfords rainbow etc, there amongst all the books was a yellow/red book called "the road less traveled" by m.scott peck.
has anyone read it?
is it good?

Brummie,
It's a good read, although I don't agree with Peck on everything. Not by a long shot, actually. To me, it's more of a philosophy book than a book on psychology. It's about acceptance of yourself, acceptance of risk, change, responsibility.
Yes, there are some "new-agey" comments littered throughout the book -- as well as some covert Christian underpinnings (although Peck now is a quite liberal Christian). I liked it more for Peck's writing style than for his general theories on psychology. For the latter I would recommend anything by Albert Ellis, founder of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). Peck's ideas are a little too vague for my taste. But, a good read nonetheless.

Josh,
You're story is quite moving and a testament to your courage. Although I'm not gay I also experienced many similar feelings of guilt over sexuality (masturbation, "dirty" thoughts, etc). It's amazing that, when one looks at the matter rationally and sympathetically, all the guilt goes away and we can truly live a life worth living.
Don't pay any attention to those who are locked in a medivel and anachronistic mindset. Remember, they're the ones that are truly distorted, not you. Keep in touch with enlightened humanity and let the assinine comments of others just roll off.
(((Josh)))
Take care,
Bradley

Adventures at the District Convention
by RunningMan inwell, after a 15 month absence from the kingdom hall, i once again found myself in the biggest kingdom hall of all the district convention.
as in previous years, the material presented was dull and repetitious, so once again, i was forced to provide my own entertainment.
so, like last year, i am pleased to present a further installment to my assembly adventures, called:

Mormon "Apostates"
by Kenneson inyes, the mormons have their ex-sites too.
one difference i note is that the lds church doesn't tell its members to avoid "apostate" sites, as does the w.t.
one church spokesperson stated: "beyond urging members to use wisdom and judgment in their use of the internet or any other medium of communication, we have made no comment on specific web sites.".

Neither has the WT Society. Think about it. Have they ennumerated any specific sites with addresses and all? This comment above sounds like the type of obfuscation that could come from the JWs. Sure, nothing specific -- yet everyone knows what they mean.
I saw a Mormon propoganda film in which a group of young "elders" on their two-year missionary assignment found out that one of them was reading "anti-Mormon" books. They called it, I quote, "worse than pornography." Amazingly, that is the exact same ludicrous illustration the WT uses to discourage members from reading ex-dub stuff. Don't just take the Mormon's word for it. They're a cult just one notch below the dubs in my opinion.

Can God exist outside of time
by setfreefinally in.
some say god exists outside of time and space therefore he can predict the future.. any comments?

A couple thoughts:
It seems that any idea of "God" would have to include the thought that He/She/It exists outside of time. Otherwise, God would have a beginning since space/time also has a beginning.
This being the case, I don't know if it is possible for "God" to be a personal God. Personality requires experiences, interaction and learning. Anything outside of time would not have any of that.
Whether a "Supreme Being" exists or not, I'm not convinced at all that we actually have "free will." I don't think it is logically possible for a completely free volition to exist.

Through everything... do you feel that you learned soemthing?
by anotheropenviewpoint ini am new to the board and have read countless gripes and pokes at "the organization" but i fail to find one interesting question.. in preface... i was disfellowshiped myself over 5 years ago.
in that time, i had done much searching, visited many churches and faithes.. going to some for as short as one session and some as long as 6 - 8 months.
after i felt my search was in vein i stopped attempting to go to these shurches all together.. i never forgot how to pray through.

Excuse me Brother anotheropenviewpoint, but do you really think you should be using fould language on this board, even if is done with a letter removed so as to pass through filters? Certainly, Jehovah would not be pleased with such reproachful language.
Do you think it wise to "eat at the table of demons" by posting on an apostate site? What is your motivation for doing so? If it is to "help" or "hinder" the apostates you are acting against the directives of the Society and the God-appointed Faithful and Discreet Slave and it's Governing Body.
Remember to "love those hating you" and leave things in Jehovah's hands. Give Him time. He'll come through.
