"Jehovah ALWAYS had/used an organization". How would you reply?
by EdenOne inin a recent meeting with elders, an argument was used to the effect that jehovah has always [= throughout history] used, or operated through, an organization; therefore, the wts must be that organization today, since god must be using one.
naturally, i know what arguments i've used to counter that argument.
but i'm interested in hearing yours.

Unstop, I posted the whole Creed on the last page, was there anything you disagreed with? It should only take you a minute to read.

Ok Eden, God chose Israel with the intention that they would live out his law and by doing so reveal God and become a blessing to all the other nations. As a nation they failed at this, but Jesus as an Israelite fulfilled God's promises and himself became the blessing to all the nations.
Jehovah chose Israel for this task in order to fulfil the promises he'd made to Abraham.
What promises did Jehovah make to the Watchtower Organisation? What blessings are they bringing that have not already been fulfilled in Jesus?

Inherit the Earth?????
by Crazyguy inthe wt has taught that some of the righteous will inherit the land and live on earth forever.
this dogma is very hard to get over because some scriptures allude to this and even jesus said the meek will inherit the earth.
but also jesus himself will inherit the nations but that doesn't mean he will reside down here with them.. so how does one explain that the meaning of inherit does not mean necessarily that one will have to live here on earth?

Although to go with your point, JWs believe that the anointed inherit the earth as they rule over it as kings, so the ones who inherit the earth don't live on it.

Crazyguy,
Revelation 21 describes a new heavens and new earth. The early Christian and indeed Jewish hope was for the restoration and renewal of the earth, not that they would go to heaven. Certainly that idea exists in scripture as well, but largely as an interim period until they are raised in new bodies in the new earth.
The problem with the JW view is that it divides heaven and earth and comes up with 2 hopes, not that they have a place for the earth at all. If you want to do more study on this subject, I recommend the book 'surprised by hope' by Tom Wright.

Hi Littletoe,
Did your theology studies open you to the lies of Calvinism as well?
More seriously I'm glad you're doing well and I'm sad I got to this place too late to engage you in discussion. Look after yourself!

marriage without affection/sex/touching
by zeb inyes thats my situation.
some where along the path of life the wt guilt trip was dumped on our marriage and we havent had sex for years.. anyone else?
the hearts and flowers and gifts and doing the cleaning, the house work and paying the daily accounts never being drunk on drugs playing the horses or screwing others yep its all there but nothing coming back due to the wt guilt trip.. they made so much of 'oral sex' and 'pornea' incorrectly quoted at that and ventured thereby into areas they were patently very ill equipped to comment on.

Sorry TD, I'm not actually married, so I was writing hypothetically, but I'm not convinced. Julia aside I think all the women on this thread agreed the situation was not acceptable.
I suppose you write with more experience than me though.

You've never read the Nicene Creed!? What do they teach you at that church?
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
