To be a Christian means to follow Christ, his teachings and life, in that sense JWs could do with a bit of work on loving their enemies, but they are not alone in this (take note Franklin Graham and Jerry Falwell Jr) -

Oh Slim, don't you know that Sam Harris is the most misrepresented man in history! ;P http://www.counterpunch.org/2015/12/09/sam-harriss-quantum-universe-or-how-to-say-one-thing-while-meaning-another/
Thanks for the 'How to read Derrida' recommendation, I may check it out over Christmas when I'm off work...
Depressedsoul, since different perspectives are good may I recommend David Bentley Hart's 'atheist delusions' as a counterpoint to the new atheist stuff. NT Wright has some good scholarly stuff from a more conservative/Christian perspective to Bart Ehrman if you'd be interested in that as well. -

JWs have more good points than bad
by lsw1961 in1) many who were on the destructive path have been transformed by their teachings (this includes me who was once vicious, and presumptuous and atheistic).
2) equal monthly pay to all members of the bethel community regardless of whether they are bc members or sweepers.
this is something that still remains as an unattainable dream for the world.

Jehovah's witnesses are the fastest growing religion.
by hoser inthat is what the speaker said in his public talk this morning.

Curiously JWs have actually gotten better at retaining their members in the Internet age. This is what's allowed them to maintain their growth despite a drop in baptisms. -

Give Blood!
by Laika inlooking for a way to stick two fingers up to the watchtower and do something useful?.
well, ever considered giving blood?
if you're eligible to do so i would encourage everyone here to go for it, the world needs more blood donors, it's always nice to help out and given our history i find there's something very enjoyable about it.

How Jehovah's Witnesses could become a huge mainstream religion without harming people. Any thoughts?
by JWchange inif jws did the following, i believe they would grow exponentially and become one of the largest 'religions' on earth : .
1. no more dfing or shunning......its up to your conscience who you like or don't like.
in the same way if i was catholic living in ireland, i wouldn't hang out with my neighbor if she was a drunk fornicator, just had an abortion, had a taliban boyfriend and also supported liverpool soccer club.

"also supported Liverpool Soccer club"
Now this is a good reason to shun someone

Sick of the nanny state. Polictical correctness can kiss my donkey!
by punkofnice ini am sick of this bloody nanny state here in the uk.
political correcness has become a drag.
(am i allowed to say drag without offending someone?).

Punk, I must admit that I don't really get the problem, I understand that Luhe is desperately upset about losing his privilege and often attempts to cover up his prejudices and resentment with a veneer of politeness, but I don't understand why you're upset at all.
Firstly because you don't seem to be able to come up with many examples and secondly because the ones you've come up with are hardly things worth getting too upset about. Given, for example, that the n word and it's derivatives has nearly always been used as a racial slur it shouldn't anger you when people respond badly to it, even if misplaced. This is just a case of showing empathy, hardly a 'controlling nanny state'!
