I have not read this book. What is it? 192 pages on all the things you have to do to make God like you?
Sounds horrendous.
last night my wife and i studied with elder and started chapter 15 of the "in gods love book".
"for many people in todays world, work is anything but a pleasure.
how is it possible to see good for our work under such circumstances?

i've decided to start a thread on christian theology, wherein i will lay out what i believe scripture teaches about baptism... because i can.
throughout the first 1500 years of christian history, it was universally understood that the christian is 'born again' at water baptism (and the majority of christians still hold to this) but then many christians started to argue that baptism was just a symbol of obedience, but i posit that nowhere in the bible will you find a verse that claims baptism is just a symbol, instead scriptural references to baptism always claim that it actually achieves something:.
john 3:5 - born of water and spirit.
Kate, I understand, but I wouldn't give up, I believe God is big enough to handle your questions.
I also think you'd enjoy doing an Alpha course, if you can spare the time.

Kate, sounds reasonable, you should tell him. :)

Fakesmile, it's literal (I think) Romans 8:14-15 might help.
And yes, you can do it tomorrow, but remember, it's not you doing it, it's God. ;)

Hi anonymouz, good post
But since a baptized human is not instantly actually reborn as spirit being, it has to be a symbol of an actual event to come later
When you say reborn as a spirit being, do you mean a resurrection in Heaven?
at the congregation bible study this week, we as jehovahs witnesses studied a brochure on how we study the bible at the congregation bible study.
no wonder half of us are screwed up..
Sir82: My favorite part was the question "When would you like to next attend a meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses?"
Ha, that's hilarious sir82, I bet the answer given was 'The Service meeting' and the Kingdom Hall erupted in giggles.
how are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.
when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.
when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.
Deut 19:21
21 Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Matt 5:38
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.
Sounds to me like Jesus was saying we shouldn't always follow the violence advocated in the OT.

wouldn't it be nice if they said 'you know what, we've made millions in property sales recently, lets donate a couple million to a philipines relief fund..'
ten vans full, probably just for jw's.
The Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses is coordinating the international disaster response from their world headquarters in Brooklyn, New York.
...
The Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses cares for expenses related to their relief efforts by utilizing funds donated to their worldwide work. The Governing Body also assesses the need for skilled volunteers, and works with their global network of branch offices to provide qualified personnel to assist with disaster relief work in cooperation with local authorities and other relief agencies.
Perhaps it's because I've not been paying attention long but the constant attempts to talk up the Governing Body is a relatively recent thing right? I mean, it's not as if they could actually be doing all this, it's a lot of work.

Unstop, what do you think water baptism does?
