Are Jehovah's Witnesses Mind Numbingly Boring To You?
by minimus ini honestly think they are the most boring people on earth!
even when they produce their so called "new light", there's no excitement.
jws just do their thing and refuse to think about their useless lives.
-

I was so afraid to say to my JW associates and even to my wife, that the meetings are boring
Yes! And it's weird because practically all JWs find the meetings boring and yet most of them would still express outrage if you stated this out loud.

Why Were the Anabaptists Not Chosen by Jesus in 1919?
by berrygerry inwt acknowledges their lack of neutrality during ww1, and previously stated that this was followed by a period of refining.
however, they were still the one group that far-and-away were the only ones that were practicing first-century christianity the most closely, as well as being the only group trying to do so.. interesting read about the hutterites ( http://www.ubcpress.ca/books/pdf/chapters/courtsandcolonies/chapterone.pdf ).
, especially this quote about ww1:.

Yes! The anabaptists have been practicing peace centuries before the Watchtower ever existed.

Baptism as a Symbol of Dedication - Anther unbiblical doctrine of men
by doubtfull1799 ini'm not sure if this has been discussed before - i did a brief search and couldn't find anything on this particular aspect.. for those atheists who believe it is all nonsense anyway, feel free to ignore this post.
i happen to be of that same persuasion but i still enjoy discussing it on a philosophical level.
its funny how you may have left because of the more "out there" doctrines and chronology etc not making sense and you come to see that they are going "beef the things written", but the longer you're out and the more you think about your old beliefs, even the most common basic or "fundamental" doctrines are also "going beyond the things written.. baptism as a symbol of dedication is a case in point.
-

Doubtfull, you are quite right that baptism is never connected to 'dedication' but...
Every Biblical mention of baptism (by water) is as a symbol of repentance, or acceptance/belief
Go further than this. The bible never calls baptism a symbol either.
(good thread btw)

Breaking news: Islamic Terrorist Attack in Stockholm Sweden involving stolen truck, 3 gunmen on the loose!
by kpop intime to break out the facebook filters, #hastags, candles, vigils and sing "we are the world!
" one day, one day, with enough #hashtags and scented candles we'll stop those annoying terrorists!.

I think it is telling that so many on this forum have to make things up in every discussion on Islamic terrorism. Similar to the response to the terrorist attack on London where posters claimed that no Muslims criticised the attacks or stated no Muslims turned up to the Edinburgh vigil for the ahmadi Muslim, claims which were quickly found to be fiction, we now have posters on this thread making up their own definition of the word 'radicalised' to complain about its use, or complaining about people defending Islamic terrorism on a thread where nobody has defended Islamic terrorism.
I guess it is easy to win a debate against your own imaginations but I can't see how it's useful.

President Trump launches missile strike against Syria
by jwleaks inpesident trump authorized the missile strike because “it is in the vital, national security interest of the united states to prevent and deter the use of deadly chemical weapons.” .
59 tomahawk missiles were launched from two us navy ships.. russia has condemned the action.. https://youtu.be/4svp3yfneyq.

I look forward to the time when praise for 'taking action' in Syria turns into complaints later on that we just didn't act forcefully enough, as happened in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya (I don't really look forward to this, it's just so predictable...)

you should be bloody ashamed of yourself for posting that comment.
And yet... I'm not.
It's a fair description for the influence right wing media has had on many posters on this site.

Has Anyone Ever Just Gotten Mad and "Popped" an Elder?
by Cold Steel init has to have happened.
people get stressed out, an elder or overseer takes just two steps over the line and gets a fat lip for his trouble.. does that ever happen?
or maybe someone "counsels" a brother at the wrong time and tempers flare at the old kingdom hall?.
-
Laika
I heard of an elder popping someone for questioning his authority. I've seen some elders get very angry and get close to that. I reckon this is more common, a lot of elders have serious entitlement issues.
