for those who still believe in jesus and his purpose and in a god who is creator.
do you feel it is appropriate to hang in place as such when the scriptures teaches us "not to cast pearls before swine?
" please tell me your feelings on this subject as i feel that i should not be here but for some reason keep returning....do we believers feel that we can make some good here and is that why we continue to come here?
Yes, the bible is inspired because the bible says so. Okay....
I dislike it when people assume that the only reason someone would reject a belief system such as Christianity is because they have been hurt by their former beliefs. That may be true for some people but for many of us it is because we have come to that conclusion through logic and intellectual pursuit. When I left the Witnesses I didn't become an agnostic overnight. In fact I still believed that they had the "truth" for quite a while. I did do some studying and reading on Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Islam as well and I noticed a lot of core similarities (especially amongst Judaism, Islam and Christianity) I went on to further study religion as a whole and start reading philosophy. It was through this that I became an agnostic and then an atheist. I didn't reject god and religion, I just discovered that Santa isn't real.
I don't care what other people believe as long as they don't treat me condescendingly for coming to the conclusions I have.

Reading this thread has renewed my belief that many Christians are not very Christ-like. GentleSoul and AAF, thanks for that.

so, the society is still using the phrase "spiritual paradise" ?

communist countries ( you remember, the ones that collapsed?
Here's some anecdotal evidence to lend in whatever support is possible for anecdotes:
My parents have six children. Five of us have left. One is only eight years old so we'll see how she turns out. My grandparents raised four children as good dubs. Two of them left and twelve of fourteen grandchildren have left. The two who haven't are too young to decide. There are also three great-grandchildren who are not now and will never be dubs.
As the information age expands the younger generations of ex-dubs will swell. I recently ran across someone who went to my childhood congregation and has left. I hope to find more. I had so many wonderful, truly bright friends who ran off to get married shortly after (one before) graduation. I hate to think of their intelligent minds stagnating in dubland.

we wanted to buy a dvd to watch, i thought the league of extraordinary gentlemen(i think that is the name) looked cool.
no spoilers please!
I'm sorry to any of you who loved it but, I absolutely thought this movie sucked! The special effects were cool but so were the effects in "Attack of the Clones". Sean Connery's vast talents were wasted. The movie moved around too much and didn't flow very well. It was herky jerky. There wasn't enough character development and the plot was not fleshed out.
The only other movie I've seen recently that was worse was "Master and Commander". I could've edited that movie better! I kept waiting for Russell Crowe to look at the camera and wink; it was that smarmy!

i have read some years ago that, according to the results of a survey in a western country (i think it was germany), the number of people who admitted praying occasionally was far superior to the number of believers in any kind of god.. when i read ancient prayers to the gods or goddesses in a polytheistic context, i notice they are not very different, in form and in content, from the prayers to the monotheistic "god".
many of the bible prayers (e.g.
psalms) have probably originated in a polytheistic context, even though we now read them as prayers to the one and only god.
Good question Narkissos! I haven't prayed once or felt the urge to since I gave up belief in God. I remember praying ferverently as a child and teen in the belief that I was being heard but haven't felt that inclination in a very long time. Perhaps I'm more of a pragmatist than I thought; wasted energy, time and all that. I usually just vent to my heathen brethren and that helps more than prayer.

i love that movie.
i have to say its my all time favorite movie.
i love the whole concept of it.
Ha! I loved this movie! My son and I saw it at the theater and he and I cracked up. Not the best movie I've ever seen but, pretty damn funny.
U2K, with all the money you've got could you go buy a sense of humor? You really need to lighten up a bit!
Suck on this for a bit:
And when they nail my pimpled ass to the cross
I'll tell them I found Jesus that should throw them off
He goes by the name Jesus and steals hubcaps from cars
Oh Jesus can I borrow your crowbar?
To pry these God damn nails out they're beginning to hurt
Crucified and all I got was this lousy T-shirt
"I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!" I'll sing as I'm flogged
Yeah that's what I would do if I were God
I bet that if God exists he finds lyrics like this hilarious! We were made in "his" image supposedly so if I find them so funny why wouldn't he?
