welcome to the continent of north america.. within this continent, which includes also the carribbean islands, and central america, it's not one (1) country, but a collection of different countries.. i have noticed, quite a bit actually, with our friends from across the pond (atlantic ocean), especially those that reside in great britain/united kingdom, yes even the republic of ireland, of their generalities with regards to the term: america.. heaven forbid, i would guess if you lumped all brits in with europe/europeans.
wrong.. my experience has been that, most brits consider anything over this way.....the other side of the atlantic as: america.
thus to other nationalities within north america: that means: the u.s.a.. to a north american: when you say "america" it means: the united states of america.
Heyfea, I've lived in the US for 30 years. I only moved up to Canada a few weeks ago. I'm not even sure if I'm staying. The US isn't the only melting pot. Come up to Toronto some time! There are large amounts of ethnic groups up here. It's so cool! I don't believe most people in the US are that obnoxious. Some are but, not most. Only the ignorant ones think/act that way. That's a very self-absorbed world view.
I like the US and I liked living there. I'm happy that I was born into a very free society. I think I'm damn lucky. However, many people in many other countries feel the same way that I do.
As far as thinking other countries worship the US and it's way of life? Puhleeze!

do you feel compelled to give advice to your friends if you think they are making bad choices?
if it's not threatening to your friend in a physical way - do you live & let live - even if their choices have the potential to hurt them emotionally at a future time?
what is the "right thing to do in these situations"?
Sloan, hit Refresh. That should help. I like the new pic too!
IMO, a real friend offers advice. Maybe it's just weird of me but, I want everyone around me to be happy and whether or not I am correct I always try to help. I don't do it to try and be everyone's mom I swear! I never mind people offering advice to me and I don't understand why anyone would mind receiving it. Honestly. Oh well, just more proof that I'm a misfit eh?

Shera, I will let you know what happens. Sorry, I'm just grinning from ear to ear!
Shamus, that's great!
I don't know how to respond to him. Am I just socially stunted? Damn! He and his family were such an intregal part of my past and I want to convey that somehow. I've really missed him. When he said that his mother shuns him and his siblings I almost cried. She was such a kind person and I hate to see that she's done that. Damn cult!
I hope I can find the words...

Exjw: Shush! You haven't had my chili...LOL!
dear all,.
i am new here and not quite sure how to use this forum, but i guess ill learn in time.
it's funny really, i've browsed through this site before when i was still a jw and honestly thought that have you people are nuts, but hey now i'm an ex-jw as well.....and can think clearly for the first time in years.. what can i tell about myself?
Hiya medstudent! I understand very well. I'm a fourth generation dub as well. My parents treat me well. My dad still believes I will come back one day. There is a sense of weirdness when you enter a non dub existence. It was hard for me to celebrate holidays or birthdays at first. With time I've learned. Thanks for joining the site. I'm glad you're here.

What adorable kids! OMG!
For the record, I hate snow. My 7 year old son and I both hate it....LOL! We hate snow and love hockey, oh the cognitive dissonance!

the bush administration has quietly withdrawn a 400-member military team.
it sent to baghdad to scour iraq for evidence of unconventional weapons.... .

That's because the reasons never changed...GEESH!
Did so! The reasons changed many times. Don't you remember the emphasis on WMD? The supposed links to Al Quaeda? The 'proof' that Iraq was going to threaten our way of life? All of it bullsh*t! If Bush and Co. could have said "we think Saddam is a threat to Iraqi's and we want him out of power" I could've gotten behind that. I'd really like to see a couple of other dictators gone to be honest. I feel for Liberia and North Korea.
I'm neither a liberal nor a Simon lackey so I don't know what you mean Stacy. I'm entirely independant and entirely opinionated so, there! I actually agree with you on a few of your statements. I think jealousy (and/or resentment) may be part of the reason some fundamentalists hate us. It's so completly complicated though. No simple statements by either of us is going to get at the root problem. Ah, well....

PS My spelling sucks before 9 am so I apologize.

I just thought of one more thing I like about Canada: Hockey on tv every night. Even if the Leafs got the sh*t kicked out of them last night by the Sens () I still like watching all the hockey. They even show my Red Wings once in a while.

Stacy, thanks for sharing your story. That's wonderful!
I got an email back! Yipppeee!!!! My old buddy remembers me and was wanting to know what is happening with me and my family. I'm so giddy I went to bed giggling. I haven't talked to this guy is almost 20 years. Apparantly his mother is shunning him and his siblings as they've all 'fallen away'. It's kind of like finding a missing piece of your past. I can't explain it. I'm thrilled to have found an old friend.
Just thought I'd share some happy news.
