the thread about the 6 million bible studies reminded me of some things that always bothered me about going door to door.
1. as mentioned in the other thread, there were times that cos and elders would tell us to not identify ourlselves as jws.
tell them we are "students of the bible" or "concerned neighbors", etc.
This thread brought up a memory for me.
In the lat 70's early 80's watchtower had a month when you could offer 3 of those big prophecy books for $0.70 cents.
I remember placing 3 with a person and feeling sorry for her because now she had to read 3 thick boring books of prophecy.
The new approach now is not to say "Hello, my name is __________ and I am involved in a christian community service."

If I was your mom I would cry my eyes out.
Caveat---if your family is loyal to organization they might not see your points and view you as "disgruntled".
But whatever they do with your letter, be assured that if they read only a portion of it, it will have accomplished its purpose.
They may not change overnight but you have set the wheels in motion and they will think about it.

what i mean is according to the society, there are a number of persons that are "technically" "inactive" yet are viewed as jws still.
i'm sure that i'm viewed as a witness still because i am not df'd or disassociated.....what about you??

and, guess what?
The sad part is that watchtower never learns from their mistakes and they continue to delude their members that the end is around the corner and therefore there is no need to save for the future.
I know many couples around these parts that are both pioneering and living on a shoe string waiting for the end to come any time now. So sad.

i am getting news from jws who have attended the district convention that the drama (which is pre-recorded and played to lip-syncing actors) has a demon-possessed woman with a ?demonic voice?.
can anyone confirm this?
it is said to be pretty creepy sound effect and many jws are uncomfortable when they hear it.
Yes the demon posessed girl in the drama was pretty scary.
She was dressed in black and her hair was dishevelled and her words were in a plural voice. To me it sounded like the borg from star trek. My hubby said is was more like the exorcist.
Maybe the governing body watched the exorcist and borrowed the idea from it.
It definitely brought a chill down your back..

The R&F are in la-la land when it comes to the society's financial plans. The rumor around here is that the governing body is sensing that the end is very near and that the society will be simplifying its operations.
Meanwhile behind their backs (as usual) they are planning projects that will take years to complete.
Makes me sick.
