I don't think anybody could succeed Freddy (the oracle ) Franz. He was in a class of his own

who succeeded Fred Franz not as President but the theological guru
by ex-Special Pioneer infor decades fred franz was the guru of the watchtower bible & tract society.
he was obsessed with "biblical prophecy" trying to explain the book of daniel and revelation.
who took over after he stopped writing and who is considered the authority on the jws teaching today especially the so called "prophetic interpretation?

Bethel Entrants' School Lecture 1-L
by Marvin Shilmer inbethel entrants' school lecture 1-l. .
the watchtower organization requires that all new full-time workers at its world headquarters or other facilities attend an entrant school.
attendees are provided worksheets that are outlines for lectures at these events.

WOW all the review questions relate to submission to the governing body. I guess if you are going to start the brainwashing process....might as well start right at the beginning. Thanks Marvin for putting that up on your blog.

The struggle to avoid being bitter
by crazycate ini dont want to be bitter.
but i now understand why some or many ex-jws are bitter.
i remember when i was an active zealous jw thinking, if someone wants to leave, go ahead and leave.

I have to agree with you Man in Black. As you, many of us are bitter because of what this organization has made us give up. When I think of my own life....the best years wasted going door to door for a publishing company......that gave me nothing in return.
I was angry and bitter for a long time. But at some point I realized that I was only hurting myself. So i've tried hard through the years to keep my watchtower experience boxed. OHH sometimes the bitterness comes back. That's when I acknowledge the bitterness and then try to put it back in the box and I try to be grateful that I realized the situation while I still have some time to pursue other things.

Ostracism: anyone with legal background on this forum who could help?
by Nick! inhere in europe, we have started different initiatives aiming at exposing publicly and legally the watchtower on the subject of ostracism, discrimination and shunning.. in the past we have seen different manifestations held in front of kingdom halls or branch offices on issues such as pedophilia and blood transfusions policies, and even, such as in france, against building of real-estates.
now it seems that the issue of discrimination against disfellowshipped or dissociated people is gaining momentum.
we have seen the large demonstrations in brazil, and maybe the lesser important ones elsewhere.

Kudos to you Roberto et al. ,
I don't know if you will get anywhere legally with the disfellowshipping practice, but I think that the publicity will do its part in tarnishing the watchtower's image. Watchtower guards its "image" to the world scrupolously. If it feels that the world is watching....perhaps they may get to the point where they will stop the disfellowshipping practice. That would be a real victory

Economics has guided the watchtower. Only when they are forced to make a change because of money woes....then changes amongst the rank and file will ensue

Dinner With a Pioneer Couple Last Night
by dontplaceliterature inmy wife and i had dinner with a pioneer couple last night that we've been friends with for a long time.
they are both nice people, with the wife having a few dashes of pretentiousness mixed in.. usually when we are together, they always talk about pioneering, which makes some sense as it's the primary focus of thier lives.
however, it has gotten progressively more dominate in conversation over the last couple of years, to the point of being annoying.

As a former pioneer....I would say that the hourly requirements become an obsession. I remember every month thinking " I am not going to worry about hours". that thinking lasted about a day....because those hours are always hanging over your head. And its a vicious circle, because once you've succeed in getting your time for the month, then there was the next month to worry about.
