  It's a noble idea and a nice letter. In the early days, I spent many afternoons drafting letters to the governing body. I never really sent any.But they were cathartic. I realized early on that the governing body and clan are so high and mighty that the chances anybody up in the ivory towers would read past the first paragraph is slim to none.

  But you never know, if it makes you feel better , go ahead and send these letters.

  What is the current suicide and mental illness rate among JWs and previous members

  there seems to be no current data on this information and there is questions concerning the validation of past data.

  apparently there is high rate of mental illness and suicide.

  jehovahs witnesses suicide rate 5 to 10 times above average.

  I am not going to give too much credence to one study, especially by Rolf Foruli. But I will say what I see around . There is plenty of mental illness among Jehovah's witnesses. In a congregation of 90 there are the following:

  3 known to have bi-polar

  1 schizophrenia

  10 + suffering with some depressive mood disorder

  I'll create my own study and say that there is just as much mental illness among the jdubs as anywhere else maybe more.

  A number of years ago , I worked in service with a circuit overseer's wife who was advocating taking anti -depressants. I think she was taking them too. She freely shared that there were many sisters in the circuit who got along with medication.

  well i have not been on this site for ages - so long that i had forgotten my username etc and have had to start again!.

  anyway briefly - bought up in 'the truth', baptised at 18, married at 21, had kids, got divorced, remarried, disfellowshipped 15 years ago.. parents and brother shun me.. early last year father very ill, calls me.

  i arrange to visit him in hospital.

  by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.
