Holey,
I was not there because I am of "like faith" with any of them.
I was there to avoid family friction. Believe it was not a willing choice.

i found it funny how some people would literally underline just about everything in the watchtower magazine.
the more the magazine was underlined and notes were written, the more a person looked spiritual.. did it ever happen that you didn't read your watchtower magazine, and you underlined just about anything just to look as if you read it?.
Soledad,
That bro you mentioned that studied the tower for five hours reminded me of one of our local brothers who studied the watchtower like this:
1. Read paragraph once
2. Read question then read again to find answer.
3. Read all scriptures
4. Read paragraph again to summarize
It may very well have taken this brother 5 hours too.

i have personally had experience with this.
a long time friend committed suicide because of her husband and the problems they were having.
he abused her and ended up leaving her, the elders wouldn't help out much stating that it was a marital problem.. she couldn't cope with him leaving, she was extremely dependant on him, she felt the only way out was suicide.
lying eyes,
sosorry for your mom . Elders are supposed to be loving shephards but their actions prove different. A lot of them are callous. Their only concern is their precious position not the welfare of the flock.
Thanks for sharing your mom's experience.
the watchtower society has had much deserved bad publicity for their policies on child molestation.
some suggest that this occurrence is no different than other religions.
actually, i have known about 10 persons that have been sexually molested by a relative.
I know of 2

i was born into it, and had a rough ride getting out, not much fun growing up having little respect (didn't want to use the hate word) for your parents/family.. i can honestly say my parents had no idea how life works, as is the case for most jw's.. how did you get stuck in it, and how long did it take you to finally walk away (or still trying to) ???
(took me years)
I was practically born in it and stuck in it for over 30 + years. It took 10 years for me to fully realize what this organization is all about.

Thank you, thank you
The watchtower is a business pure and simple.
Every business goes through a business cycle of up and down. Seems the watchtower has been on an upward cycle. Do you think it will ever wind down?
i've noticed a lot of discontent among my jw friends.
i've had some express to me how stressed out they are because the meetings take up too much time and the assemblies are too long.
( a lot of complaining about this international assembly coming up).
Logan,
It may be wishful thinking but I do believe in "the straw that breaks the camel's back sindrome". I think that everything will eventually come to a head for this organization.
The real loyal Jw are dying off. The discontented ones are the second and third generation of jw's. Perhaps the unhappiness of the younger ones will only be a contributing factor to its demise.
i apologize in advance for the length of this post.
i tried to shorten it as much as possible, but if i had cut too much of it out, what was left wouldn't have made much sense.
besides, it was too friggin' good.
Teejay,
I jus finished reading this article in TIME (canadian edition June, 2003). I also found it fascinating. Thanks for thinking of sharing it with everybody.
