I wondered about this too.
I followed this thread and and since Scholar is so behind the NWT, I have made up my mind that this translation is NOT the most accurate.
Thanks for the help Scholar

i spent most of my life waiting for the sky to fall, with most aspects of my life dominated by fear.
iam 37 and havent set foot in kh in over 8 years but at times even today when my brain say things like "dont think you have gotten away with anything gods still going to kill you".
the thoughts dont stay very long or come very often but when they do its out of the blue, and not cool at all.
It does take a long while. The wt tentacles are long and insidious. It took me a good 2 years to get rid of the feeling that it might still be the "truth".

what the hell is the big deal about the circuit overseer's visit?
why does everyone have to drag their bible students and in active friends and family members to the meeting during that week?.
it is so lame and hypocritical.
It's all hype.
It's a time to score 'spiritual brownie points'. Especially if you are a male dub. You want to make a good impression in front of the "chief and his chiefess". He has the key to the 'spiritual ladder' that most males want to climb.

what is the jw stance on having relations with one's wife while she is having her menstrual period?
one of them told me that because there is "blood" it is against god's law, although i never heard that before.

I have also heard this reasoning.

Sometimes I don't feel I have anything intelligent to say.
But I have read your posts with interest.
Sorry you got your feeling hurt.

the first poster that i ever met was philo.. we'd traded a few stories via the site and i realised that we knew some of the same people down in portsmouth.. he was very cagey as to his real identity, but eventually we shared emails and he told me all about himself.
one day, i took hl down to portsmouth to see my daughter who lives there.
i'd mentioned it in a post, that i was going in that direction.
Hawk was the first and only poster I have met. Great guy!!
just got the watchtower feb 15/04.
this is what it reads : .
apostates may claim to worship jehovah and to believe the bible, but they reject the visible part of his organization......under divine inspiration, the bible writers used strong words to expose the motives and the methods of apostates.. what is it that apostates want?
Just got the Watchtower Feb 15/04. This is what it reads :
Apostates may claim to worship Jehovah and to believe the Bible, but they reject the visible part of his organization......Under divine inspiration, the Bible writers used strong words to expose the motives and the methods of apostates.
What is it that apostates want? Most are not content to leave the faith that they once perhaps viewed as true. Often, they want to take others with them. Rather than going out and making their own disciples, many apostates seek to "draw away the disciples {that is, Christ's disciples} after themselves".
Regarding false teachers, the apostle Paul sounded this urgent warning: "look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey." (Colossians 2:8) Does that not describe what many apostates try to do? Like a kidnapper who carries an unsuspecting victim away from his family, apostates prey upon trusting members of the congregation, seeking to carry them away from the flock.
What methods do apostates use to achieve their aim? They often resort to distortion, half-truths, and outright falsehoods.
How can we guard against being deceived by apostates? By heeding the advice from God's Word, which says: "Keep your eye on those who cause divisions and occasions for stumbling contrary to the teaching that you have learned, and avoid them". (Romans 16:17) We "avoid them" by steering clear of their reasonings--whether in person, in printed form, or on the Internet. Why do we take such a stand? First, because God's Word directs us to do so, and we trust that Jehovah always has our best interests at heart.--Isaiah 48:17,18.
Second, we love the organization that has taught us the precious truths that so plainly separate us from Babylon the Great. At the same time, we recognize that our knowledge of God's purpose is not perfect; our understanding has undergone adjustments over the years. Loyal Christians are content to wait on Jehovah for all such refinements. (Proverbs 4:18) Meanwhile, we will not abandon the organization tha God is pleased to use, for we see the clear evidence of his blessing upon it.
Seems to me that men at the Ivory Towers are getting really worried. Apostates must be doing more damage than we realize.

10:10 a.m. and 2 women with mags in hand ding dong on my door.
don't they know this is a do not call address?
well, it started out nice enough, i asked for a list of charitable works, (for other than jws) where their soup kitchens were, how a magazine will put food on someone's table, i brought up the un, the pedo data base, the whistleblower dfings, hoping that they'd be interested in one.
Years ago when I was in the "thick of it" I found a so-called "apostate " in the territory. He let my parter and I have it.
I remember how hard I defended the "truth". I told him how sorry I felt for him because no matter how he felt he was missing out by not being in 'god's spiritual ark'.
I remember how shaken up I was by the whole experience but I did think about some of the things he said. And he did manage to put a few cracks in my armour.
Those sisters will also be shaken up, but something will stick with them.
Good job

they're saying the prophecy is possibly fulfilled of "peace and security and then sudden destruction" in the year 1986 when world leaders dubbed that year as the "year of peace".
the feb.1st watchtower mentions that just as a pregnant woman over 9 months gradually has signs of a baby's growth in the womb, so too, we may have a fulfillment of bible prophecy without knowing it fully beforehand until the effects and results become obvious.
my mother read excerpts of the wt.
I have noticed that whenever such supposed "new light" appears the rank and file wholehearthly accept it.
The society creates a "faddish" atmosphere around their teachings. Acceptance of something new is looked upon as being progressive.
So for the regular dub who wants to be in the spiritual "in" class accepting so called "new light" is a sign of progressiveness and maturity.
