I used to go after I did my fade, but then I decided I was being a total hypocrite, so I don't go anymore. It's hard, my family usually tries to "encourage" me, and they try to entice me with going out to dinner as a family afterwards, but I just don't want to do it, even for them. The only good thing was afterwards I could do a little catching up with people I had not seen in a long time, but it was kind of phony because those same people would not talk to me at any other time. Do what you have to, but remember, sometimes even one meeting appearance can set you back from all the work you have done to get out. Good luck!

Pillars in the Congregation
by JH indo you know people in your congregation, who seem so strong spiritually, that it seems impossible for them to quit or even slow down?
i've seen many come and go, but some are like pillars, and nothing seems to slow them down.
often i wonder, who will be next to get df'd or who will slow down next.

My mom is definitely a pillar, and while I hope one day she will take off her blinders, I seriously doubt it. I do know of one former pillar who left after her daughter and husband started showing her some things. It was quite a scandal, because she had brought many people in, and when she was leaving, they would not talk to her, and reminded her that she always said never listen to anyone who talks against the organization, even if it were her. That came back to haunt her when she realized she had been deceived and had led others into the deception.

Ok, you gotta tell me where I can get more detail on them baptizing Hitler!! Why would they want him to get to heaven? I thought they did not believe in heaven, but I'm not educated on their beliefs at all. As for comparing them, sorry, don't know enough. I just believe any "high control" group is bad news.

everone is in confusion
by zolensky ini joined this site last week hoping to meet people that would steer me back to the organization.
instead the people i have talked to her are all trying to tell me too see the light and get out of the organization.
in my opinion, not that it matters, i really think that if a person had the truth deeply ingrained in them, they would never leave the truth.

I don't know if you are still reading replies, but I take personal affront to your statement that people who left the organization did so to satisfy "physical pleasures" or because they did not want to follow the guidance of the organization. I am a married woman, do not smoke, lie, steal, cheat, etc, follow my conscience even when it is sometimes to my disadvantage (giving back excess change at a store, informing someone when they have given me something I am not entitled to), etc. I did not leave for any of the unkind reasons you gave, I left because I FELT IT WAS NOT THE TRUTH! My entire family is still in, and I never say a negative word to them. They jokingly refer to me as a "heathen" or "pagan", but I never respond in kind. If you wanted to get encouragement, you should never have come to the internet, the society has written numerous articles about the "danger" of the internet. You should have gone to the elders, pioneers, strong publishers, etc. AND YOU KNOW IT. If you want to stay in the organization, that's certainly your option, but HOW DARE YOU judge people on this board who are looking for comfort and friendship after some of the most devastating experiences of their lives??!! You don't agree with the thoughts on this board, fine, GO AWAY!

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! Now they have the nerve to say only dedicated, baptized witnesses can approach God in prayer?? What in the world, oops, sorry my bad, what in tarnation is going on? I can't believe how far they are willing to go with this crap. So, of course this means that none of Jesus' prayers were heard until he was 30 or so, right? 'Cause that's when he got baptized. And what about all the prayers we read of non-believers that were heard and answered? I guess God made exceptions in those cases, huh? Another scare tactic, in my opinion, and one of the lowest I have heard in recent memory. THIS MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!!! And I'm sure witnesses out there are feeling smug in their righteousness, despite the fact that it is exactly the attitude Jesus condemed. Thank God I'm out, and yes, I know he heard that.

6 months out and at times doubtful
by Leander init was in may of this year that i resigned as a minsterial servant and stopped attending jw meetings.
i made a fairly clean break from my congregation without the typical disassociation process.
while some areas of my exit were very smooth others were extremely difficult.

I totally understand, and in my opinion, it actually takes more love and patience on the part of the one who leaves than anyone else to maintain a good relationship with family members who are still "in". My mom and siblings are all still dedicated, and I am fortunate that we actually have a really good relationship. There are the occasions, however, when they feel free to make comments about my being a "heathen" or celebrating "pagan" holidays. They are always said in a joking manner, I will never fault them for the way they speak to me. I do sometimes wonder, though, if in a similar joking manner I was to respond with something like "yeah, you brainwashed people" or "it's easy to control someone who is not allowed to educate themselves" if they would accept it in a genial manner. I know how hard it will be, but as others have already said, the more you try to talk to someone who is not ready to hear it, the more likely you are to push them further into it. Your wife is afraid right now, so the best thing to do is concentrate on showing her love and alleviating her concern that you are now going to do something radical that will ruin your life and hers. If she wants to come out, seeing that you are happy and at peace without needing to force something on her might give her the confidence to approach the matter slowly. Then again, it might not. Your decision, while right for you, may have repercussions. All you can do is show as much love as you can without giving up on your beliefs. Good luck.

Being called brother/sister in public places
by JH inhow did you like being called brother or sister, when you were in public.
i remember once i was inside a bank waiting in line, and all of a sudden , a brother also waiting in line, said to me quite loud, hello brother x .
i felt like a jerk, being called brother in front of everyone there.

I always hated it, but was raised in a very old fashioned household that did not allow me to address adults by their first names anyway. On the same subject, when you run into an active dub now, what do you call them? Since my family is still in, I sometimes run into older people whom I have only known as brother or sister such and such. I have taken to avoiding calling them by any name, but sometimes it gets a little awkward.

Ever think of going back undercover?
by jws inwas watching a new tv show called "do over" where a grown man goes back in time and is a high school student again, with all of his adult knowledge.
the premise has often come to my mind.
what would i have done if i knew then what i know now?

Actually, that sounds like fun. At the very least, on the weekly Bible study I could raise legitimate issues, and see how well the conductor responded. I don't think I could or would keep it up for long, listening to the drivel would get to me pretty soon, but I think for a month or so it would be a hoot.

So How Bad Is The World REALLY?
by Englishman inin the uk, if you drop a wallet in the road in error, what are the chances of it being handed in to a police station by the finder with all the contents still intact?.
when i read that in the times some weeks ago, i was very skeptical.
then i thought of all the people that i know, friends, aquaintances and pub pals, and i reckon that 90% of them are basically honest with their fellow man.

My dub Mom is always telling me how terrible the people in the world are, and how they have no morals, etc. Whenever I tell her about my personal friends, and how they would never do the things reported on the news, she just says I am too innocent to see what people are like. She gets this smug look on her face that I just HATE!!! And, a quick history lesson will show that there have been catastrophes many times past that darn near wiped out the population, and humans pretty much just started over. I wonder if dubs would consider those early catastrophes to be "Armageddons"?
