looking after dying jw
by A Paduan inpart of my job involves palliative care - and tonight i was looking after a dying jw man - awakes, nwt bible and the rest around the room of course.
after feeding, washing, consoling, giving drinks, turning etc (you get the picture), i thought 'none of my colleagues are jws or even religious, but they are the ones here.
i'll post again tomorrow, he may not be alive i suppose - but i can say that i haven't seen family about, let alone any "brothers/sisters" about to feed or console - i just see a scared and alone person - and thank goodness we're not all jws.

JW alternatives to holidays
by YellowLab ineven though you couldn't celebrate holidays growing up as a jw, did your parents ever have alternatives instead?
in my case, we never celebrated christmas, we had "surprise day" usually a week before.
instead of celebrating thanksgiving, we would have a turkey dinner a few weeks later.

We never got presents in lieu of Xmas or other hols.....my parents were very stingy with money so for them it meant they could save more money! I spose the idea being that we could go on holidays BUT as soon as I left school and earned my own money I was excluded from these too. I have always over compensated for my own kids and spend tons on them each holiday - mainly coz they don`t get extended family gifts....

Time travel- if you could...would you?
by freedom96 ini was recently looking at a picture that showed my city almost a hundred years ago.
i started trying to imagine the scene, but in color, and what it would have been like.. they say if time travel was possible, you must be careful, for what you do could alter the future.. though i know it is not possible, i think it would be fantastic to do so.. so, would you do it if you could?
what time era would you go to?.

I would only go forward in time.....coz I reckon it will be far more sophisticated here or wherever we end up!

Have You Been Divorced?
by Outaservice indivorce is much more common in the jehovah's witness community than they would like to admit.
probably more so than the population in general.. if you have been divorced do you think that the watchtower society contributed to the divorce, or caused it, or is it just possible you married some jerk or abuser and divorce would have occured no matter what religion you were, or even if you had no religion?.
possibly you got married way too young as the end was coming and there is no marriage in the resurrection if you died.

I married at 18 - mainly due to wanting to `get out of home` as it was so dub oppressive at home and that was the only way I could do it acceptably......far too young and a silly mistake....lasted two years and I had two children......once I had them got up the courage I left him and the dubs.....at 21...what a start in life huh!
